RANDOM REPORT

✓ The term “junkie” comes from the fact that recreational heroin users in the early 1900s would collect and sell scrap metal to pay for their heroin.

✓ Wedding rings are placed on the left ring finger because in ancient times people believed it was the only finger where a vein connected straight to the heart.

✓ The Titanic crew had no binoculars , which may have helped them see the iceberg. They were inside a locker and the key was lost.

✓ An episode of the British kids’ show “Peppa Pig” was banned in Australia because it informed children that spiders “can’t hurt you” in a country plagued with the deadliest creepy-crawlies on Earth.

GOOD NEWS

13-year-old Austin Hardison lives in Arizona, and asked his mom for a smartwatch last Christmas, because a few of his friends had gotten them.

And this summer, it ended up saving his LIFE.

He was watching TV recently, when he started to feel light-headed.  Then he looked at his watch, and it said his heart rate was 219 beats per minute.  Which is WAY high.

A normal resting heart rate is between 60 and 100 beats per minute.  And at his age, it should never be higher than about 200.  But that’s if he was running, or doing vigorous exercise.  Not sitting on the couch.

His mom thought he was just anxious about school starting back up.  But she took him to the doctor.  And it turns out he was born with a heart condition they didn’t know about.

He might not be able to play high-impact sports because of it.  But now his doctors can treat it.  So his watch probably saved his life.

And 8% think it shouldn’t be until they turn 18 . . . or even later.

KIDS WATER BOTTLE RECALL

Health Canada says more than 150,000 kids’ water bottles have been recalled due to a choking hazard.

The agency says Contigo Kids Cleanable water bottles with a black spout base and spout cover are included in the recall.

The water bottles, which were sold individually as well as in two-packs and three-packs, come in three sizes —13 ounces, 14 ounces and 20 ounces — and four bottle colours.

Health Canada notes that the bottles’s detachable silicone spout poses a choking hazard to children.

The affected products were sold in Canada, U.S., and Mexico from April 2018 to June of this year. Around 157,000 bottles were sold in Canada, 5.7 million were sold in the U.S.

Health Canada says consumers stop using the recalled water bottles immediately and contact Contigo for inspection instructions and a free replacement lid.

BRANTLEY GILBERT WAFFLED BETWEEN CAREER OPTIONS – (08/30/2019)

Brantley Gilbert had a few ideas about what he wanted to do for a living before settling on music full time. In fact, some of his choices might surprise you. He tells us:[“I went to college for two years and figured it wasn’t for me. But I couldn’t decide between majors. At one point I thought about law enforcement. And then I looked around at me and my friends and knew that wasn’t an option.  So that quickly went away.  And you know, at one point I even thought I was gonna be a relationship counselor. You know, that sounded good, cause all girls would come to me with their problems and I’d write songs and talk ‘em through it and all that.  I was like, maybe I’d be good at that.  And I figured I’d be responsible for more divorces than social media when I really thought about it.  So that got X-ed out. I’d probably be coaching if I had to guess. I really enjoyed that. I got to coach some football where I went to high school, before I left, and I had a good time with that. So I’d say that’s probably a safe bet. I’d probably be teaching and coaching.”]

Brantley’s new album, Fire & Brimstone, will be released on October 4th.

FAST FACTS

Brantley and his wife, Amber, are on baby watch as their baby girl is due on September 18th. They are already parents to toddler son Barrett.

MIDLAND SHARE THEIR LIST OF LEAST FAVORITE JOBS IN HONOR OF LABOR DAY

Like most artists with any amount of success, the guys in Midland have paid their dues and worked their share of terrible jobs. To support themselves along the way, Cameron Duddy, Mark Wystrach and

Jess Carson have tried their hand at all the typical employment opportunities and then some. They tell us: [“Delivering phone books, any restaurant job. I mean all aspects of it up front, in the back . . (Mark) Washing dishes, taking out garbage. (Cam) Yeah. (Jess) You know I spent my summers working in a Christmas tree field in the middle of nowhere. You can’t feel further away from the world than doing that, you know? So, we’ve all put in many, many hours doing . . . (Cam) Construction, carpentry, all that stuff, man.”]

These days, you can catch Midland touring the country and promoting their brand new album, Let It Roll, which includes their latest single, “Mr. Lonely.”

JON PARDI HEADS TO SEVEN PEAKS FESTIVAL TO HANG WITH DIERKS BENTLEY –

Jon Pardi will be performing at his good buddy Dierks Bentley‘s Seven Peaks Festival this weekend in Buena Vista, CO. Jon will hit the main stage on Sunday (September 1st) along with Tenille Townes and Dierks, among others.

Jon is also on the road with Dierks on his Burning Man Tour. This is not his first time to tour with Dierks, so the two have formed a great personal and professional relationship. [“Dierks surrounds himself with great people, and I’ve always loved that about him. That’s always been something I’ve looked up to him for and his way to really express that he cares. You know, he wrote me a hand-written note. (He) said he was so excited for me to come to Seven Peaks. I’m like, ‘I’ve been on tour the whole time, dude!’ (laughs) He still took his time to write a note and he probably did that for every artist, you know, cause I’m going out early so we can all hang out and that’s like his baby festival and he’s like really, really into making it into a big one so it’s gonna be fun.”]

Other performers at the Seven Peaks Festival include Luke Bryan, Maren Morris, Mitchell Tenpenny and 90s acts Deana Carter, Diamond Rio, Tracy Lawrence and Travis Tritt.

Jon will release his third studio album, Heartache Medication, on September 27th.
