On Today’s Show
September 17, 2019 9:35 amIn New Zealand, when someone’s going to get laid off, their companies give them a heads up . . . and they’re legally required to let the employee bring along a, quote, “support person” like a friend, their spouse, or their lawyer. So a guy named Josh who knew he was going to be laid off hired an emotional support CLOWN to come with him. Josh paid the clown around $125 to come with him to the meeting in full makeup . . . and make balloon animals while Josh was being let go.
Anyway, he says his bosses found the whole thing funny . . . and he already has a new job with one of their competitors.
As for the clown, he says this was not, quote, “the weirdest job I’ve had . . . top 10 though.”

36-year-old Robert Williams and his 35-year-old wife Tiffany from Montoursville, Pennsylvania got a giant boost to their bank account back on May 31st . . . when a teller accidentally deposited $120,000 into their account. Their balance before that? $1,121.
But Robert and Tiffany decided the right move wasn’t to contact the bank . . . it was to go on a SPENDING SPREE. They bought an SUV, two four-wheelers, a camper, and a car trailer . . . they paid off all their bills and car repairs . . . and gave $15,000 to friends.
BUT . . . in mid-June, the bank figured out their mistake. So Robert and Tiffany were told they had to return all the money they’d spent, plus they were hit with $107,000 in overdraft fees. They tried to ghost the bank to get out of it . . . so the bank called the cops. And now Robert and Tiffany have been arrested on felony theft charges.

RANDOM REPORT
- In 1920, Babe Ruth out-homered very American League team.
- Coffee breaks come from a tradition in the 1800s called “elevenses” . . . where people would get a break from work at 11:00 A.M. to drink WHISKEY.
- Every year, 16 million gallons of oil runs off pavement into streams, rivers, and eventually, oceans in the United States. This is more oil than was spilled by the Exxon Valdez.

GOOD NEWS
ESPN’S “College GameDay” was in Ames, Iowa this past weekend. And as always, there were a ton of fans in the background holding up homemade signs.
One of them was a student named Carson King, who had a sign that said, “Busch Light Supply Needs Replenished.” Then it listed his information, so people could Venmo him. And it worked.
Within minutes, he had hundreds of dollars in his account. And by Monday, it was up over FIVE THOUSAND BUCKS. Which could buy him a whole lot of Busch Light.
But instead of keeping the money or throwing a party, he’s DONATING it.
He called in to a radio station in Des Moines and said he’s buying one case of beer. But the rest of the money will go to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
He’s keeping his makeshift fundraiser going the rest of the month.

PILLOW TALK:
If you and your significant other are locked in an eternal battle about the thermostat setting, here is what might be the deciding vote.
Whichever one of you likes it colder at night has science on their side. According to an article by Dr. Christopher Winter, medical director at Charlottesville Neurology & Sleep Medicine, there are a number of reasons to keep the temperature in the 60-67 degrees F (15.5-19.5 C) range while you sleep. His research shows that you are more likely to experience lower quality sleep if the bedroom temperature is out of that range.
Why? Because of our natural 24-hour cycle, we tend to get sleepy when our body temperature begins to drop, so keeping the room cold could encourage you to fall asleep faster, and enjoy a more restful sleep.
Long-term benefits of sleeping in a cool room include a decrease in stress hormones which could help you lose weight, lowered risk of diabetes and a more youthful appearance.

- NFL
Cleveland 23 NY Jets 3
We’ve now lost three Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks in the first two weeks of NFL action.
New Orleans Saints quarterback DREW BREES needs thumb surgery and will be out for roughly six weeks. And BEN ROETHLISBERGER of the Pittsburgh Steelers has a nasty elbow injury that will keep him out the WHOLE SEASON.
This comes just one week after Jacksonville Jaguars QB NICK FOLES broke his collarbone. He’ll be out until mid-November.
For what it’s worth, Foles is only 30 . . . but Manning is 38, and Brees is 40.
Roethlisberger is 37, and he just signed a 3 year deal in the off-season.
NY Jets quarterback Sam Darnold suddenly came down with mono. Then, during the game, backup quarterback Trevor Siemian left the game after suffering a gnarly ankle injury.

GEORGE STRAIT REISSUES ‘STRAIT OUT OF THE BOX: PART 1’ TODAY
The reissue of George Strait’s 1995 boxed set, Strait Out of the Box: Part 1, happened Friday and it’s available exclusively at Walmart. The 72-track collection spans George’s early career from 1981 to 1995, and features 31 No. 1 singles.
Despite the 38 years that have passed since George released his first hit single, “Unwound,” he tells us his career has flown by with many highlights along the way. [“It seems like just a year or two ago that I cut ‘Unwound’ and started this whole deal with MCA Records and everything. I had a lot of highlights in my career. You know, winning Entertainer of the Year was certainly a big highlight of my career and just being able to continue on with the same record label for this long is also, when you stop and think about it, that’s a long time to be with one record label, but I’ve had a lot of good things happen to me.”]
George was also be featured on the official soundtrack for Country Music – A Film By Ken Burns. The eight-part PBS documentary spanning the history of country music will aired on PBS Sunday
Vince Gill Hopes to Never Stop Touring with the Eagles
VINCE GILL really loves being part of the EAGLES when they go on tour.
In an interview with “CBS Sunday Morning” he said he couldn’t be more grateful that they even thought of him. The only difficult part is that he’s replacing a legend, GLENN FREY, who passed away back in 2016.
He said there are times when he can feel the crowd “holding their breath” when they see him on stage. But after a couple of verses they release because they realize “it’s gonna be okay.” He’s been touring with them for over two years and when asked if he’ll keep doing it, he said, quote, “Absolutely. I like being part of the band. I always have. Was always a little bit uncomfortable being the focal point.
“I don’t like being noticed. I don’t need preferential treatment, [I] don’t have much of a posse. I drive myself pretty much everywhere I go and am somewhat abnormal [in that world] . . . but in my mind it feels normal and I like that.”
RUNAWAY JUNE MAKES CHART HISTORY WITH ‘BUY MY OWN DRINKS’ – (09/17/2019)
Runaway June makes Mediabase Country chart history this week as their current single, “Buy My Own Drinks,” marks the first time a female trio has broken into the Top Five on that chart since the Dixie Chicks in 2003. The ladies have twice as much to celebrate as all three — Jennifer Wayne, Hannah Mulholland and Naomi Cooke — had a hand in writing the song.
Runaway June are pinching themselves about their current success, but as Naomi tells us it’s a product of their hard work and perseverance. [“At risk of sounding a little proud, like we’re so grateful but like we’ve worked really hard, so it’s like when you stick with something — it’s like we’re told by all of the people we look up to, it’s like, ‘Just stick with it, don’t give up.’ There were lots of times where we were like, ‘Man, is this ever gonna work? Are we on the right path,’ and you do eventually see the fruits of your labor so we’re just trying to really enjoy it.”]
This milestone is the highest-charting female trio since the Dixie Chicks’ “Travelin’ Soldier” 16 years ago.
