On Today’s Show
October 15, 2019 9:35 amA Pittsburgh woman noticed a burning smell and smoke coming from her car. When she checked to see what the problem was she found a bunch of straw, grass, and walnuts that a squirrel had been storing away for winter. The car owners pulled out most of the nuts themselves, and mechanics were able to remove even more– a total of a half-filled trash can were removed. The vehicle was otherwise undamaged
Her husband said he was wondering why there were so many walnuts in his tree, but none on the ground.

Lego is testing a way for customers to ship their unwanted plastic bricks back to the company to keep them out of the trash and get them into the hands of other kids.
The Danish toymaker announced today that customers in the U-S can print out a mailing label on its website, dump their used Lego bricks in a box, and ship them off for free.
Lego says the pieces will be cleaned and donated to non-profit Teach for America, which will donate them to classrooms across the U-S.
If the test is successful, Lego says it may expand the program beyond the U-S next year.

GOOD NEWS
A 28-year-old guy in the U.K. named Dibsy McClintock decided it was finally time to lose weight last year after he got up to 560 POUNDS.
And one of the big things that helped him was getting BANNED from all the fast food and take-out places in his neighborhood.
He got in touch with a personal trainer named Mike Hind, who works with one client a year free of charge.
And one of the first things Mike did was put flyers up all over town with Dibsy’s photo that said, “Save Dibsy. Obesity Is Killing Him. Do Not Serve This Man.”
Before they changed his diet, he was taking in around 11,000 calories a day. Or about enough food for a family of six. And now one year later, he’s lost HALF his body weight.
He started working out and eating better last October. And he just hit 280 pounds last week. Then he had surgery this week to remove a bunch of excess skin. So he’s even lighter now.
Mike says that if he’d been charging for his services the whole time, the bill would have been just over $60,000. But he did it for free, because he knew it was a matter of life and death.

No, You Don’t Swallow Eight Spiders a Year . . . Plus Five More Sleep Myths We Still Believe
You’ve probably heard this stat before: The average person swallows EIGHT SPIDERS a year in their sleep. But that’s not actually true. A writer named Lisa Holst started spreading the myth in 1993 to show how gullible we all are. Then people thought it was real. And apparently a lot of us STILL do . . .
A new survey on sleep myths found 1 in 5 Americans think the ‘eight spiders a year’ thing really does happen. Here are the top five sleep myths we still believe . . .
Myth #1: Drinking alcohol before bed helps you sleep. 32% believe it, but it’s not true. It might knock you out. But alcohol messes with the quality of your sleep, so you wake up feeling less rested.
Myth #2: Leaving the TV on helps you fall asleep. 30% believe it, but the opposite is true. The blue light from your TV screen or phone actually keeps you up.
Myth #3: The older you get, the less sleep you need. 29%. Teenagers should get up to nine hours of sleep, compared to seven or eight for the rest of us. But after that, it stays the same. You don’t need less sleep the older you get.
Myth #4: Some people just don’t dream. 25% believe it, but everyone dreams. You just might not remember them.
Myth #5: Sleeping on your left side helps with digestion. 25%. A ton of articles online claim it’s true. But at best, it’s just a theory. There’s no real evidence it works.

We Waste 29 Full Work Days a Year Checking Email
According to a new study, we waste 29 full work days every YEAR on checking email.
The study found the average employee spends two hours of their day on email . . . but only one of those hours is necessary. The other hour goes to re-reading messages, checking for updates, and sending unnecessary messages.
So if you work 230 days per year . . . that adds up to 29 work days WASTED on email.
And if you add in the hour per day that’s actually necessary, it means we spend 58 work days a year on email . . . or almost TWO WHOLE MONTHS every year.
The study also found more than half of people say the time they spend on email hurts their productivity.

BALLOON BOY
Ten years ago today, on October 15, 2009, millions around the world got pranked, believing that there was a boy floating around Colorado in a helium-filled, spaceship-shaped balloon.
He would become known as “Balloon Boy”. Television networks went live, showing the flying saucer floating thousands of feet above the ground, and it immediately became the #1 searched topic on Google.
Here’s how one of the most famous hoaxes began, with Richard Heene, the Balloon Boy’s father, pretending to cry, while telling 911 that the balloon was supposed to be tethered to the ground

POOR POSTURE FROM SMARTPHONE USE MAY POSE THREAT TO HEALTH
Starting down at your phone isn’t good for your neck, and can lead to health issues.
Orlando Health system researchers say poor posture can lead to health issues such as chronic pain in the back, neck, and knees, circulation problems, heartburn and digestive problems.
Since Americans spend an average of more than 3.5 hours staring at their phones each day, they are likely slouching or looking down for long periods of time. A poll of U.S. adults found just 47 percent of people said they were concerned about how poor posture affected their health.
Researcher Nathaniel Melendez adds, “People don’t realize the strain they’re putting on their body when it is not aligned correctly, or just how far corrective exercises and daily adjustments can go toward improving pain and postural issues.”

The Washington Nationals are now one win from heading to the World Series, after beating the St. Louis Cardinals 8-1 last night to take a 3-0 lead in the National League Championship Series. Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg had 12 strikeouts over seven innings, continuing Washington pitching dominance in the series that has held the Cardinals to just two runs and 11 hits through three games. The Nationals will try to sweep in Game 4 tonight at home.
The Houston Astros and New York Yankees will play Game 3 of the American League Championship Series this afternoon in New York, with the series tied at 1-1.

The Green Bay Packers beat the Detroit Lions 23-22 in Monday Night Football last night (October 14th) at home, getting the win on a 23-yard field goal by Mason Crosby as time ran out. The Packers were helped by two fourth-quarter penalties for illegal hands to the face against Detroit’s Trey Flowers, both of them on third down. The first set up a Packers touchdown, and the second allowed Green Bay to run down the clock to two seconds before Crosby’s game-winning field goal. There was controversy around the two penalties, however, with replays showing Flowers’ hands on the neck or shoulder of a Packers players, not their face.

LUKE COMBS IS VERY INVOLVED IN WEDDING PLANNING PROCESS
It might come as a surprise, but Luke Combs is just as much a part of the wedding planning process as is his fiancee, Nicole Hocking. In fact, Luke tells us it’s downright important to him to be included on the decision-making process for the sake of the relationship. [“I’ve always wanted to be involved in that process because I want to show her that I care about it. I want her to know that I care as much about our wedding as she does because it’s our wedding, and, I mean, it’s her day to shine, don’t get me wrong, but it’s also . . . if I can’t put a valiant effort into planning the most important day of our lives to this point then what does that say about me when something really difficult comes up because this is something, to me, that’s fun. Like, I’ve never been excited to pick out napkins before but I’m kind of excited to pick out napkins, if I’m being honest with you (laughs).”]
Luke and Nicole have not shared their wedding date.
The couple do a lot of their planning from the road, as Luke’s tour schedule is pretty packed. He plays tonight (Tuesday, October 15th) in Missoula, MT.
FAST FACTS
Luke’s new album, What You See Is What You Get, will be released on November 8th.
The project features 17 songs, including collaborations with Brooks & Dunn and Eric Church.
Trace Adkins Married His Girlfriend on Saturday, and Blake Shelton Was the Officiant
TRACE ADKINS married his girlfriend, Canadian actress VICTORIA PRATT on Saturday in New Orleans . . . and the guy who officiated it was his buddy, BLAKE SHELTON.
Trace posted a photo of the happy moment.
This is Trace’s fourth marriage. He and Victoria became an item back in 2014 while they were filming the movie “The Virginian”. He was still married to his third wife at the time, and the tabloids had a field day with that breakup.
That’s probably why Trace didn’t make a big deal out of this wedding. In fact, PEOPLE“ reached out to his team trying to get more details, but no luck.
