On Today’s Show
October 16, 2019 9:35 amSome people really do get instant karma. Video footage taken in England shows a vandal hurl a brick at a car window, and the brick bouncing back at him and hitting him in the face. The potential thief then recoils, clutching his hands to his nose and mouth and hunching over in pain. A resident at the property where the car was said the brick-thrower was arrested. The video has been posted to Facebook where it’s been viewed over 5,000 times. The man has been charged with criminal damage to a vehicle and shoplifting.

VIDEO GAME DEVELOPMENTS:
➠ A Montreal-based law firm has launched a proposed class action lawsuit on behalf of two Quebec parents who claim that the video game “Fortnite” is as addictive, and potentially harmful, as cocaine. It states that the defendants used tactics (to ensure) the dependence of its users, (and) the brain being manipulated to always want more.” And it says that children are particularly vulnerable to this manipulation. The law firm represents two plaintiffs who are parents of a 10 and a 15-year-old.
➠ The National Health Service in the UK is opening the country’s first specialist clinic to treat children and young adults who are addicted to gaming. Patients, ranging in age between 13 and 25, will be able to attend in person or have an online consultation using Skype.
In recent years, concern has been raised about the heavy use of computer games by children and young people and the potential effects this could be having on their physical and mental health. In June 2018, ‘gaming disorder’ was officially recognized by World Health Organization as a mental health disorder.

GOOD NEWS
Twenty-five years ago, a New Jersey couple was in for a surprise when they watched their wedding video on their first anniversary and discovered the videographer had taken some liberties with the edits – by adding an entire scene from The Muppets Take Manhattan while the bride is walking down the aisle.
The silly splice was fodder for family jokes, until the couple’s 25th wedding anniversary when their daughter, who goes by Twitter handle Maul-ly, discovered the wedding video and watched it.
Soon after, the woman uploaded a clip of her watching – and cracking up – at the video, along with a caption. “My parents’ wedding videographer intercut a clip from Kermit and Miss Piggy’s wedding into their service?? without asking???” she wrote.
The video, has been viewed over 5 million times. Twitter users largely had a field day with the funny footage, with most claiming they wish their own wedding video was as original.

Netflix Hated the Term “Binge-Watch” And Wanted It to Be Called “Marathon Viewing”
Netflix basically gave rise to the “binge-watching” era of TV. But if they’d had it their way, that term never would’ve caught on.
“The Hollywood Reporter” just interviewed a bunch of producers and executives at Netflix. And it turns out they HATED the term “binge-watch” because of the negative association with things like binge-drinking and binge-eating.
They preferred the term “marathon viewing,” because it almost sounded like you were doing something HEALTHY.
But they couldn’t get people to use it. So they’ve learned to accept “binge-watching” as the term we use.

After Nine Years Waiting for the Apocalypse, a Guy Comes Out of Hiding and Goes to the Bar
We don’t have a ton of details about this yet, but on Sunday, cops in the Netherlands discovered a family of seven people who’d been living in their basement for NINE YEARS waiting for the apocalypse.
And they were only found after a 25-year-old guy left the property . . . went straight to a bar . . . drank five beers . . . and eventually told the bartender about it.
He had long hair and a dirty beard. And he said his brothers and sisters were still there and needed help. So the bartender called the cops.
Police found his five siblings in the basement of an old farmhouse, along with a 58-year-old guy who they initially thought was the dad. But apparently that’s not the case. Everyone else was between 18 and 25.
They’d been living off food grown in a garden outside, and also had a goat. But it sounds like they mostly stayed in the basement and had no contact with the world.
Cops arrested the 58-year-old for not cooperating. It’s not clear if he’s facing any other charges or not.

STUDY: CHILDREN WANT SOCIAL MEDIA PROFILES WIPED CLEAN AT 18
Social media can be fun, but it can also create problems.
Researchers reviewed studies from over a decade and found that kids were generally “outraged” when they realized how much of their personal information is stored online and wanted “a fresh start” once they turned 18.
The study leader adds, “They say ‘whatever I do before I am 18 should be wiped off’ as it shouldn’t have any effect on them as an adult.
They want a kind of grand erasure because they talk about the importance of making mistakes and being kids trying things out.”

- MLB
BRYCE HARPER left the Washington Nationals last off-season after 7 years to sign a massive contract with Philadelphia . . . but he might regret it now, because the Nationals are headed to the World Series. They finished their sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals with a 7 to 4 win.
The Nationals will represent the National League in the World Series, and play either the Houston Astros or the New York Yankees.
(The Astros won 4-1 yesterday, and are up on the Yankees 2-1 in the ALCS.)
This is Washington’s first ever trip to the World Series. In fact, while they’ve had good teams since 2012, they’d never won a single playoff series before this year.
That dates back to 2005, when they became the Nationals. Before that, they were the Montreal Expos, although that organization also struggled.
The Expos never went to the World Series . . . and from 1969 to 2004, they only won ONE playoff series, and that was back in 1981.
- “2019 CMT Artists of the Year” (CMT): The 10th annual special honors Carrie Underwood, Dan + Shay, Kane Brown, Luke Combs and Thomas Rhett, along with Breakout Artist of the Year Ashley McBryde; Reba McEntire receives the Artist of a Lifetime award.
- There’s an educational film from 1967 called “1999 House of Tomorrow” . . . and one part features a conversation between a mom and her young son. They’re at the beach and he shows her a sand castle he made that’s a replica of their house. They talk about the room “where the computer lives,” and when he asks her how the computer manages to “know everything” they have her act like a naive, old school housewife. She says, “I haven’t the faintest notion. That’s just too much for your mother to understand.”
- Nick Griffen talks about going to rock concerts now that he’s older. He just wants them to play the four well-known songs so he can go home.

Justin Moore on the Time His Wife Made Him Model “Teen Jeans”
JUSTIN MOORE is built like a 14-year-old boy. Those are his words, not mine. And that’s the cool part. He’s five feet, six inches tall . . . but he doesn’t have a complex about it.
There was even a story going around that his wife made him model a pair of “teen jeans” from her store. She co-owns a kids’ clothing shop in Benton, Arkansas called This Little Piggy. Somebody asked him if the story’s true, and he said it is.
QUOTE, “It was right after she started getting clothing in, and it was for, I guess teen years, kind of stuff. And she was all, ‘You could probably wear these.’ And I’m like, ‘Well, I’m not going to.'”
He doesn’t have to because he has a deal with Wrangler. They send him clothes. But she really wanted him to try the jeans on, so he caved.
Quote, “So, I’m like, ‘Alright, whatever.’ [I] think it was like a 14 or 16 or something and they weren’t any too small. So, just more insult to injury for me just being built like a 14-year-old.”

Country Quiz: Who Said? “We’re Really Three Rock ‘n’ Roll Peacocks.”
“We’re really three rock ‘n’ roll peacocks.”
- Angaleena Presley of the Pistol Annies
- Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum
- Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks
- Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts
- Kimberly Perry of The Band Perry
- Cameron Duddy of Midland
ANSWER: F. CAMERON DUDDY of MIDLAND, in an interview . . . in which he also said, quote, “We’re ostentatious, kind of flamboyant people.”
Point being that you never know what Cameron, MARK WYSTRACH, and JESS CARSON will show up wearing, but it’ll be interesting. Stuff like custom rhinestone suits, vintage Hawaiian shirts, gold chains, gaucho ponchos, or bolero ties.
And they have no fear when it comes to colors: Faded pink, electric blue, cactus green, lemon yellow, scarlet red, you name it. It’s all kind of a goof, but it’s also a statement about who they are.
