On Today’s Show

Some high school students in Downingtown, Pennsylvania hacked into their school’s computer system last week and accessed a bunch of other kids’ personal information.

But it turns out they weren’t doing it for a malicious reason.  Once the school finally traced the hack, the kids admitted it was to . . . get an advantage in a WATER GUN FIGHT.

Apparently this school does something called the Senior Water Games, where the students go around town and shoot each other with water guns.  So by having access to things like other kids’ schedules and addresses, it gave these kids an advantage they’re considering pressing charges against the kids.

Norwegians have been told to urinate in the shower to save water and help the environment by an Oslo council official he said Norway uses nearly double the amount of water of nearby Denmark. He said: ‘We could, for example, pee in the shower. ‘It’s a fine idea. We can also brush our teeth in the shower.’ Another councilor disagrees saying that urinating in the shower might be a step too far. He said: ‘It’s not what I’d start with.

ENTERTAINMENT

Kate Beckinsale was on “The Tonight Show” and told Jimmy she thinks she looks like Ryan Reynolds.  She was serious.  She’s posted about it before on social media.

Aaron Paul nearly missed out on his iconic role as ‘Jesse Pinkman’ in “Breaking Bad” because, as he puts it, “no one wanted him”. Paul played the crystal meth cook and dealer in all five seasons of the hit show, and recently reprised the role for spin-off movie “El Camino”. He says it was show creator Vince Gilligan who insisted he take on the career-changing role. Quote: “Vince played his trump card and said, ‘I’m not doing the show unless he’s the guy’. So, they were like, ‘Alright!’”

The NHL didn’t realize it was fake until the next year.

GOOD NEWS

Earlier this year, a house in Akron, Ohio caught fire.  And a six-year-old girl named Zhiouli Wilson was trapped inside.  (Pronounced Zah-OO-lee)  But luckily, she knew what to do because of a fire safety class she’d JUST gone through in school.

Barb Fisher is Zhiouli’s first-grade teacher.  And two weeks earlier, she’d gone over a bunch of fire safety tips.

One of them was to stay low if there’s smoke, so you can find your way out.  And so you don’t breathe as much of it in.

Apparently Zhiouli was trapped in the basement.  But she remembered to stay low and cover herself up until firefighters got there.  And it saved her life.

She still ended up with serious smoke inhalation, but made a full recovery.  And the teacher was recently honored for it as well.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR WALK-UP BASEBALL MUSIC?

The World Series begins Tuesday night between the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros, and this year’s previews include a strange explainer: why the song “Baby Shark” is such a hit with Nationals fans.

It began in low-key fashion in June when Nats player Gerardo Parra adopted the kids’ ditty as his walkup song before at-bats.

At the time, both Parra and team were slumping. He got a hit the first time the song played, the team started winning, and the song stayed.

Now, it’s a thing. Fans not only sing along, they do the hand motions. In fact, the players have adopted the hand motions after base hits: small “baby shark” finger pincers for a single, bigger “daddy shark” hand motions for a triple, etc.

So why did Parra choose the song? His 2-year-old daughter, Aaliyah Victoria, loves it.

THAT THING YOU BREW:
A new study of 2,000 examined the personality differences in people based on their morning beverage of choice: coffee or tea.

And oddly, while you might expect coffee drinkers to be the “wired” ones, tea drinkers were found to be more likely to be extroverted, adventurous night owls.

Other findings of the survey:

  • The average coffee drinker downs 3.4 cups per day, tea drinkers: 2.7 cups.
  • Coffee drinkers are more likely to be “light sleepers”.
  • Coffee drinkers are more likely to say they are “always” on time.
  • Coffee drinkers are more likely to enjoy “Grey’s Anatomy”, The Office” and “Seinfeld”.
  • Tea drinkers prefer “The Walking Dead”, “Friends” and “The Big Bang Theory”.
  • Coffee drinkers like punk, rock, blues and jazz music.
  • Tea drinkers like classical, country, pop or hip-hop/rap.
  • Coffee fans are 96% more likely to drink their brew black.
  • Tea fans are 35% more likely to add sugar to their drinks.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD CELEBRATES NUMBER ONE HIT WITH NASHVILLE PARTY

Carrie Underwood celebrated her career 27th Number One hit, one of the 14 that she had a hand in writing, with a party at Nashville songwriting organization BMI yesterday (Monday, October 21st) afternoon. She was joined by her “Southbound” co-writers David Garcia and Josh Miller. “Southbound” is the third single and first Number One from her Cry Pretty album.

With all the accolades and awards that Carrie has racked up over the years you’d think that Number One hits would take a backseat but Carrie tells us they’re just as important now as they were in the beginning of her career. [“I mean, it’s great at any point in your career. I was really lucky early on to have success early on and then now, you want people to still like what you’re doing, and I mean I personally see that every night when I’m on stage, but it’s really great when radio gets behind what you’re doing and when it gets to the top it takes a lot of work and (I) don’t take any of that for granted.”]

FAST FACTS

Carrie will host the CMA Awards for the 12th consecutive year this November, with a little help from special co-hosts Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire.

The winners will be announced during the live CMA Awards broadcast on November 13th on ABC.

HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH RELEASE FIRST NEW SINGLE

Hootie & The Blowfish are releasing the first single off their upcoming album, Imperfect Circle, due out on November 1st. The song is called “Hold On,” and it was co-written by Chris Stapleton and is the only song the group did not write on the entire project.

Group member Jim “Soni” Sonefeld tells us about finding “Hold On.” [“‘Hold On’ came very late in our recording sessions, but I don’t think there was a song that summed up more of a vibe of our band going back to the early ’90s of sort of lifting each other up and looking out for one another and a spirit of sort of helping each other as a way of therapy and just a way of rebuilding your heart.”]

Imperfect Circle is Hootie & The Blowfish’s first studio album since 2005’s Looking For Lucky.
