On Today’s Show
November 15, 2019 9:35 amA store in the U.K. announced it won’t be playing Christmas music this year, because they think listening to it on a loop all day is bad for their employees’ mental health. The owner of the store specifically mentioned the song, “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” by Mariah Carey. Which is also the most downloaded holiday song ever, according to Billboard.

A guy in Montreal named Erick Marciano saw a car go speeding by him on Tuesday with police chasing after it. And he was worried the driver might hit a pedestrian. So when the car did a U-turn and headed back toward him, he sacrificed his own SUV, pulled in front of it, and let it crash into him. The guy who was running from the cops suffered a few injuries, but no one else was hurt. Erick says it was a split-second decision, but he’d do it again if he had the chance.

GOOD NEWS
Remember that Woodstock 50th anniversary show that fell apart over the summer? Well, at least one good thing came from it.
Even though the show did NOT go on, artists who were booked for it still got paid. JOHN FOGERTY from CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL was one of them.
And John is using his paycheck to buy a house for a veteran in Las Vegas. It’s at a place called Veterans Village, a complex for in-need veterans and their families, where homes are made from repurposed shipping containers.
John took part in a special groundbreaking ceremony on November 11th, which is Veteran’s Day.
He says, quote, “I’m not used to getting paid for doing nothing . . . [So I decided to] do something for veterans, ’cause that’s important to me.”

IN BAD TASTE:
If your kids gag when you try to get them to eat certain vegetables, it might not be picky eaters that you’re dealing with. You might have “super-tasters” on your hands.
Super-tasters are people who are genetically predisposed to taste food differently. Super-tasters are extremely sensitive to bitterness, a common characteristic of many dark green, leafy veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and Brussels sprouts. People with the “bitter gene” are 2.6 times more likely to eat fewer vegetables than people who don’t have that gene.
Although food scientists are developing ways to reduce the bitterness in veggies, experts say cooking techniques such as adding a little fat, a little bit of sweetness, strong flavors like garlic or roasting them in the oven, which brings out natural sweetness, can all enhance the taste of the vegetable and block the bitterness.

There’s a 76% Chance One of These Four Car Colors Is Your Favorite
We all love to feel like individuals, not just part of the herd. But then you see a stat like this that makes you feel WAY too normal . . .
If you recently bought a car, there’s a 76% chance you chose one of these four colors: white, black, gray, or silver.
A car paint company called Axalta puts out a report each year on the most popular car colors. And white is #1 in North America for the 13th year in a row.
The last time the top choice wasn’t white or silver was 22 years ago in 1997, when the most popular colo was green. But now only 1% of people say that’s their favorite.
The most popular color in North America this year is white with 29% of the vote. Followed by black, 19% . . . gray, 17% . . . silver, 11% . . . blue, 10% . . . red, 9% . . . brown or beige, 2% . . . green, 1% . . . and yellow or gold, 1%.
White was also #1 worldwide for the ninth year in a row. And it was the top choice in every region except Europe, where gray took the top spot.

In the closing seconds of the game, Browns defensive end Myles Garrett tackled Steelers QB Mason Rudolph. As they wrestled on the ground, they were grabbing each other’s helmets. LUKE COMBS’ HIT IS FIRST TIME HE’S BEEN ‘MOVED’ BY HIS OWN SONG
Luke Combs‘ current hit single, “Even Though I’m Leaving,” had an emotional impact on Luke himself, even though he had a hand in writing it. He admits he broke down a little while recording the demo, which he tells us really surprised him. [“That’s probably the one instance where I was genuinely moved by something that I hadn’t even experienced. I mean, I’m lucky enough to still have both of my parents and I can’t imagine having to sing that song, you know, when that time comes because I was in tears singing the work tape of that song when we wrote it. I don’t know what about it hit me so hard. It was one of the few times where I’ve really been like moved by my own song.”]
FAST FACTS
Luke is set to headline his first ever stadium show at Appalachian State University’s Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone, NC on May 2, 2020. The sold-out stadium show is part of Luke’s What You See Is What You Get Tour which kicks off in February.

LADY A GOES DEEP ON ‘OCEAN’
Lady Antebellum‘s new album, Ocean, arrives at retail today (Friday, Nov. 15th). The 13-song project features the group’s current Top 10-and-climbing hit, “What If I Never Get Over You.”
The trio got very personal and vulnerable on Ocean, as Charles Kelley tells us: [“We feel like we’ve finally been writing again from a really honest place. And, I mean, there’s definitely some layers that people, when they hear this record, are gonna be like, ‘Wow.’’ There’s some deeper stuff in there, and even some dark stuff things that we went through. And it just feels like a good refreshing time to get some new perspective and let’s see where we can go, let’s take some chances. We don’t have to always be the biggest thing in the world but I want to rest my head and go, ‘Man, we put out something bold and took some chances and it really reacted. (Hillary) It was really authentic. (Charles) Yeah.”]
Lady A is in New York City this morning to perform live on NBC’s Today show.
They performed “What If I Never Get Over You” during Wednesday (Nov. 13th) night’s CMA Awards where they were joined by special guest Halsey.
The Fallout from Carrie Underwood’s Entertainer of the Year Snub
As expected, people are angry at the CMAs for hyping the legacy of women, and then choosing GARTH BROOKS as Entertainer of the Year instead of CARRIE UNDERWOOD. She was the only female nominated in the category.
It’s not so much a question of who should or shouldn’t win. The issue is that the CMAs milked the “women angle” for months. Then they stacked the show with female country singers and promoted the daylights out of it.
Everything they did led you to believe they were going to make amends for all the years of not giving female performers their due. In the 53 years of the CMAs, only 7 women have won the top award.
It’s also not a stretch to think the CMAs were expecting more women to tune in, because it was going to be their night. Can you say, “ratings bump?”
The side effect of all this promotion created a groundswell of fans and artists talking about how it should be Carrie’s year. The Boot grabbed social media posts from fans, and they weren’t happy.
One said Carrie was “robbed,” another called it “some major garbage.”
But the BEST is this one, which totally nails it. Quote, “Carrie Underwood needs to stop hosting an awards show that snubs her year after year after year. She deserves more, and quite frankly, the association does NOT deserve her.”
