On Today’s Show

Nick and Claudia Simonis from San Antonio, Texas put up their Christmas decorations on November 1st.

And three days later, they got a letter from their HOA telling them they needed to take the decorations DOWN until, quote, “closer to the holiday season.”

The letter didn’t say WHEN it would be okay to put up the decorations . . . and because the policy seems vague, Nick and Claudia say they’re not going to follow it.

Nick says, quote, “We’re not going to do it.  It’s the Christmas spirit.  We’re not going to be forced by the HOA to take it down.”

Hackers started breaking into users’ accounts WITHIN HOURS of the Disney+ launch last Tuesday.  They logged in . . . removed all the original user’s devices . . . and changed their password and username. That gave them complete control over the account, which they then placed up for sale on the dark web.  Some were priced as low as $3, while others went for $11.

Disney+ costs $6.99 a month, so why were shady people willing to buy these accounts?   That’s not 100% clear . . . but we’re assuming most of them were pre-paid for at least a year, or maybe the buyers are from countries that don’t currently have access to Disney+.

It’s unclear how many people were affected, but it’s AT LEAST in the hundreds, probably thousands.  The hackers reportedly got in because the users had the same email / password combo they’d used on other sites.  Disney hasn’t commented.

ENTERTAINMENT

Adam Sandler’s acting teacher at NYU took him out for a beer and told him he should quit, because he’d never make it.  When he DID make it, he ran into the guy again, but instead of rubbing his face in it, he introduced him to his friends as the only teacher who ever bought him a beer.

Brad Pitt told the story when he and Adam sat down for a conversation for “Variety.”

Ashton Kutcher has been using community.com to communicate with his fans, but he recently took the interactions to another level. Kutcher provided new shoes to a Texan cross-country team. One of the athletes was injured while running in everyday shoes, so his mother decided to contact Kutcher, indicating that as a single mother of three, she couldn’t afford them herself. She says she didn’t expect to even receive a response, but she received a message days later telling her to send over a list of what was needed. With the entire team outfitted in new shoes courtesy of Kutcher, they won the regional meet and came in third place at state.

GOOD NEWS

There was a minor wreck on the beltway in Houston on Sunday.  Apparently no one was seriously hurt.  But there was a dog in one of the cars that got loose and started running around in traffic.

It ended up about a half-mile from where the crash was.  And there were cars whizzing by it.  But luckily no one hit the dog, because around 20 drivers STOPPED their cars, blocked traffic, and helped catch it.

There are a few different videos of people stopping their cars and chasing the dog until someone finally caught it.

Apparently it ran through some broken glass when it jumped out of its owner’s car, so its paws were bleeding.  But other that, it was fine.  They gave it some water and reunited it with the owner.

One person who stopped to help said it was a huge team effort, and everyone worked together.

Another driver also noted that they didn’t hear a single person honk or get annoyed.  Everyone just wanted to help.

Who Are Your “On the Way Friends,” Who’ll Drop Everything to Help?

You might have hundreds of Facebook friends.  But how many of THESE friends do you have?  Because they’re the ones to really appreciate . . .

A woman in Colorado posted on a mom blog last week after one of her friends drove over 30 miles to come help her out. And her post inspired a new term:  Your “on the way friends” . . . who are TRUE friends, who’ll drop everything to help.

She was overwhelmed with being a mom, and with life in general.  So she called a friend to vent and maybe cry a little.

Then she said she really didn’t want to be alone.  And her friend immediately said, “I’m on my way.”

She actually tried to talk the friend out of it, and said things like, “my house is a disaster” and “I don’t want to burden you.”  But the friend wasn’t having it.

She drove more than 30 miles to get there . . . picked up another friend on the way . . . showed up with lunch . . . and they cleaned her whole house for her.

Now the term “on the way friends” is trending.  It’s inspiring people to think of who THEIR “on the way friends” are, and to be that friend to someone else if they need it.

What Do You Do When You Find a Spider in Your Home?

Here’s a good question for Halloween week:  What do you do when you see a SPIDER in your home?  Kill it, or leave it alone?

A new survey asked people how they handle it.  And the most popular course of action we take is . . . NEITHER of those things.

Over 40% of us take a catch-and-release approach with spiders.  Here’s how men and women answered the question . . .

  1. 46% of men and 39% of women said they catch spiders and release them outside.
  2. 26% of men and 19% of women just leave them alone.
  3. Only 19% of men and 18% of women kill them.
  4. 21% of women get someone else to deal with it, compared to just 4% of men.

By the way, experts say leaving spiders alone or taking them outside is the best thing to do.  The vast majority aren’t dangerous.  And they’re good to have around because they eat other bugs, including mosquitos.

WINTER WEATHER

The wild and historic winter-like weather that’s impacted parts of the country this fall looks to provide us with hints of what the upcoming winter has in store. Millions are set for a ‘classic Canadian’ winter season ahead

While cold weather hasn’t locked in yet, much of Canada is in for a harsh winter. Near normal or colder-than-normal temperatures are expected for most of the country. The only regions where temperatures are expected to tip to the mild side of normal are near the Atlantic and Pacific coastlines.

Near normal to above normal precipitation and snowfall are expected this winter across most of Canada. The most active storm track appears to target the Great Lakes and Atlantic Canada.

ONTARIO AND QUEBEC

Early November has provided a preview of what is to come, as we expect a long, cold and snowy winter forecast. The cold weather will be most consistent during mid and late winter with extended periods of severe cold — including for major cities such as Toronto, Ottawa, London, and Thunder Bay.

An active storm track will likely bring above normal snow totals to much of the region, along with a risk for freezing rain at times, especially across southern Ontario and into southern Quebec.

An abundance of lake-effect snow is likely until above normal ice coverage on the Great Lakes becomes a limiting factor during February.

Looking ahead to March, it looks like winter will hold on with a rather sluggish start to the spring season from the central Prairies to Atlantic Canada.
