On Today’s Show

Winnipeg won their first Grey Cup since 1990 a 33 – 12 over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Winnipeg’s Chris Matthew was finally able to cover his legs up once again. It was back in 2001 that he pledged he wouldn’t wear pants until his Blue Bombers won a Grey Cup.

Like the Tiger-Cats coming into Sunday’s game, the 2001 Winnipeg team was the heavy favourite against the Calgary Stampeders. And like the 2019 Tiger-Cats, they lost the big game.

Matthew has since endured nearly two decades of wearing shorts in one of the country’s coldest cities. People following the story started a hashtag for his wife #DoItForDarla.

Her reaction when questioned about putting up with Chris only wearing shorts for all these years, Darla said “He’s such a wonderful man that you pick your battles,” she said. “And, that wasn’t one of them.”

A couple near Sacramento, California went to an open house on Saturday and acted like potential buyers.  But a security camera caught them stealing ice cream out of a freezer in the garage, then they left.  Now police are looking for them.  The realtor says she couldn’t believe it when she watched the video.  And other realtors in the area think the same couple may have done things like this before.

GOOD NEWS

Pet and Wildlife Rescue in Chatham Kent shared a picture of a dog who was found protecting five orphaned kittens and it’s gone viral.

She kept them warm by cuddling up next to them in the snow.

A passerby saw the animals, and brought the dog and the five kittens into the shelter.

Once at the shelter, they still had a bond as the dog kept checking on the kittens as they were being treated.

PAWR will eventually put them up for adoption if no one comes forward.

In the meantime, they’ve named the dog Serenity in honor of her selfless act.

REALLY WEARY:
If every morning feels like a Monday morning to you, scientists are now saying you have a ready-made excuse for hitting ‘snooze’ multiple times or being found face-down and drooling on your keyboard: genetics.

New research by DNA testing company, 23andMe, has discovered that genetic programming plays a part in our wake-up time. They studied over 1,500 Brits and determine that the average natural wake-up time is 7:55am. Most people set their alarms for much earlier than that, explaining our feelings of tiredness and lack of productivity. Interrupting your body’s circadian rhythm (which is the official term for our body clock) can leave us feeling out of sorts at the beginning of the day.

They also found that even if you aren’t particularly tired at the start of the day, you may experience “tiredness slumps” at other times. The UK’s National Health Service says that one in five of us get “unusually tired” and offers these suggestions to help restore alertness when the slump sets in:
➠ Exercise:  It actually bolsters your energy reserve.
➠ Cutting caffeine:  In the long term, switching to decaf could make a big difference.
➠ Don’t nap:  Daytime snoozes can interrupt your body’s circadian rhythm and lead to your struggling to sleep at night, creating a vicious circle.

FLIPPIN’ AWESOME:
The classic flip phone is coming back. Motorola has brought back the “Razr”, the legendary flip phone from 2004 that became the bestselling phone of all time, before the iPhone.

You remember the Razr, right? It was impossibly thin, it had that blue-backlit metal keypad, and it seemed like everyone owned one. Plus, you could fold it in half!

The new version is a modern smartphone. It still folds in half, and unlike many smartphones of today, it fits nicely in a small pocket. And remember the outside display on the Razr? The new one also displays time on the OUTSIDE, and lets you quickly respond to texts without opening it up.

How much for this nostalgia machine that will definitely make your friends jealous?

They won’t be jealous of the price.  $1,500 U.S. Yes, twice as much as an iPhone 11.

With “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” hitting theaters this weekend, we found the acceptance speech that Mr. Fred Rogers gave at the 1997 Emmy Awards.

He was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Emmy, and in his usual humble style, he began by calling on everyone to honor “special ones who’ve loved us into being.”  He even asked for 10 seconds of silence so everyone could think of the people who have helped them become who they are.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD, DAN + SHAY WIN BIG AT ‘AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS’

When Carrie Underwood took the stage last night (Sunday 11-24) at the American Music Awards to accept her award for Favorite Country Album for Cry Pretty she got a big surprise. Presenter, Colbie Smulders stopped her from talking to tell her she was also getting another award, for Favorite Female Country Artist. She gave her acceptance speech in tears.

THOMAS RHETT

Thomas Rhett’s current single, “Remember You Young,” is poised to become his next Number One hit, but it’s a song that almost didn’t happen. Thomas and his co-writers Ashley Gorley and Jesse Frasure originally took the song in a completely different direction. [“The first way we wrote it was strictly about the person that you’re with. And we wrote an entire song about, you know, I’ll always remember you, even when you’re in a black cocktail dress, I remember you in your pink prom dress. It’s like you always envision who you’re with when you met that person because those images are just ingrained in your head, and you’re always young together even if you’re old, at least you hope you are. And we wrote the song and it just didn’t come out the way that I wanted it to. I think all of us were kind of like, ‘I think we just missed where we should’ve gone with the song.’”]

They got together again and re-worked the song, ending up with the hit you hear on radio and Thomas’ Center Point Road album, which was nominated yesterday (Wednesday, Nov. 20th) for a Grammy for Best Country Album.

TRISHA YEARWOOD ‘EXCITED AND NERVOUS’ TO HOST CMA COUNTRY CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

CMA Country Christmas is set to air Tuesday, Dec. 3rd at 9 p.m. ET on ABC and Trisha Yearwood serves as host for the first time. She also performs along with Dierks Bentley, Kristin Chenoweth, for KING & COUNTRY, Chris Janson, Tori Kelly, Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Runaway June, CeCe Winans, Brett Young and Chris Young.

Of course, Trisha’s a pro at performing and entertaining crowds, but as she told us before the taping a few weeks ago, playing host is very nerve-wracking. [“I’ve never done anything quite like this, and I have done the show before. Performing and coming out and doing a song or two songs is one thing, but hosting, I mean the biggest thing is like a quick change is Reba’s second nature. She could probably do it in her sleep. I’ve never done this before so I’m in there looking at four outfits and I’m trying to think like how (laughs) do I get this done, and I want it to be good. I want it to be fun for everybody so I’m excited and I’m nervous. I’ve been really nervous. I didn’t sleep last night and I just want it to be good.”]

Justin Moore – is really into yoga. Surprised? He’s not surprised that you’re surprised. He says, “I know that’s kind of random, but I do love yoga.” He attributes his interest to his long-time friendship with 6’6 250-pound wrestler Diamond Dallas Page, who told him that yoga is the only thing that has helped him recover from some injuries.
