A lady in North Carolina witnessed and recorded a nail salon employee pull deer meat out of a cooler and cut it up on a tarp on the floor while customers were there.  She said no one else really seemed to care, but it bothered her, and she worries about the sanitation of the establishment now.

Back in 2016, Wanda Dench accidentally texted Jamal Hinton, thinking she was talking to her grandson. The two exchanged selfies as they tried to figure out who they were talking to, and Dench ended up inviting Hinton to Thanksgiving dinner with her family. Hinton apparently enjoyed the experience because he’s spent each subsequent Thanksgiving at Dench’s home. Each year he posts selfies of the two together, and every time they go massively viral. His post from last year racked up nearly 582,000 retweets and 130,000 likes. Hinton added that he and his girlfriend plan to invite the couple to their house for Thanksgiving in the future.

ENTERTAINMENT

A 3-year-old boy named Hyrum Harris is battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia but says he gets strength from watching The Rock’s character Maui in the movie “Moana”.  So, he made him a video telling him to be strong and sang Maui’s song “You’re Welcome”

The official “Game of Thrones” Twitter account posted a cryptic tweet on Monday afternoon and the Internet nearly lost its mind. Speculation spiraled out of control after the account posted three simple words: “Winter is coming.” Of all the many possible announcements on the way, (including the upcoming HBO spinoff series and the fact that the final two books are still on their way), there is the very real possibility that the Game of Thrones Twitter account was simply remarking on the big winter storms hitting the U.S. this week.

TODAY IS……………….

  • “American Thanksgiving Day”, an annual feasting tradition made a statutory holiday on the 4th Thursday of November in 1879

  • “Letter Writing Day”, when we’re encouraged to take a few minutes to send someone a handwritten letter. Letter-writing has almost become a lost art. When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone, either printed or in cursive?

  • “Red Planet Day”, commemorates the launch of the Spacecraft Mariner 4 on November 28,1964. The 228-day mission of Mariner 4 brought the spacecraft within 6,118 miles of Mars on July 14, 1965.

1895, the FIRST AUTOMOBILE RACE was held.  It took place over 52 miles of snowy roads from Chicago to Waukegan, Illinois.  The winner picked up $2,000. It took him 7 hours and 53 minutes to complete the round-trip.  His average speed was seven miles-per-hour!

1925, the GRAND OLE OPRY made its radio debut on station WSM.

1948, the very first POLAROID CAMERAS, went on sale.

GOOD NEWS

Alan Tripp is 102 years old, and he’s done a lot of things in his life.  He lived through the Great Depression . . . worked in advertising . . . spent some time in broadcasting . . . and wrote a few books.

But ever since he was a kid, his dream was to be a SONGWRITER.  And now at 102 years old, he just released his first ALBUM.

His writing partner is an 88-year-old jazz pianist named Marvin Weisbord.  And they might be the oldest songwriting duo to EVER put an album out.

They met at a retirement community near Philadelphia, where they both live.  And they produced eight songs for an album called the “Senior Song Book.”

It’s inspired by Big Band music from the ’40s.  But they wanted the lyrics to resonate with people today, and not just old people.

They wrote all the songs together, and hired ten singers and musicians to record them.

ARABIC SESAME STREET

Thousands of young refugees could be hearing a version of “Could you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?” in Arabic next year. Starting February 2020, there will be a new, Arabic-language Sesame Street specifically focusing on displaced refugee children.

A Syrian refugee now living in Canada had a hand in creating the new show called “Ahlan Simsim,” which translates to “Welcome Sesame.” It’s designed to help young refugees cope with trauma and deal with feelings of isolation. Mohammad Aljamous, who goes by Jamous, said this version of the classic children’s show, is “focused on trauma recovery.”

He hopes it will help child refugees “cope with the current situation living away from home and the hard condition in the (refugee) camps.” It will feature Muppets and human actors, while also offering coping tactics such as breathing techniques to help children deal with stress.

Jamous said one of the fictional characters will be fleeing war themselves, “so they will address and show ‘this kid needs more help, more friends.’”

Last year, Jamous was asked to help get the show off the ground as a consultant, while he’d been working in the digital department of the International Red Cross. Before that, he’d been a refugee in Jordan for more than six years. As a refugee, Jamous saw firsthand how difficult living in that situation could be for adults, never mind children.

The show will heavily focus on education, as many of the displaced children don’t have access to regular schooling. This past February, Jamous was able to arrive in British Columbia, through the help of his sponsors and since arriving in Canada, he’s been employed in the hospitality industry, but has also been continuing to help his colleagues overseas to continue putting together the show.

MEET MARKET:
Rob Lawless is on a mission. A mission to meet 10,000 strangers. And not just meet them. He wants to spend an hour with each and hear about their lives.

The 28-year-old Philadelphia native has already met with 3,000 people, and is currently doing the rounds in New York. He started his project in 2015, when he was working as a finance consultant and missed the socializing he did while in college.

How does he finance his quest? By convincing businesses to pay him in exchange for plugs on Instagram. He is averaging about 800 people a year, and after each meeting, Lawless posts a photo of himself and the stranger he’s just met, along with a summary of their story.

He expects the project to last another decade. He hopes to take it international, and eventually hit every state in the U.S.

HOW MUCH MONEY WE’RE WASTING ON UNEATEN FOOD GOING BAD

When was the last time you cleaned out your fridge?

A poll shows on average, we think we spend $82 per week on food and drink, but nearly $16 worth will end up in the trash after it goes bad.

This despite the fact that 20 percent of people say they’re happy consuming an item that has passed its use-by date, and about 17 percent said they’ll risk eating something past its use-by date so that it doesn’t go to waste.

Researchers estimate we throw out $1,000 out-of-date food and drink each year due to inadequate packaging or storage, and say we could cut back on the waste if consumers were better educated, and the food had better packaging.

CHRIS YOUNG HAS RECORD YEAR ON THE ROAD

Chris Young is celebrating a record year on the road. Ticket sales have shown that he has played to over 400,000 fans in 3 countries in 2019. The headlining tour, which started May 5 in the UK and wrapped over the weekend in Lexington, KY, covered 35 states across the U.S.

You’ll see Chris on NBC as he will make an appearance on the Macey’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. But he tells us the holiday is also an important time to spend with his family: [So, the turkey every year is on me now because last year I decided ‘Hey, I’m going to cook the turkey’ and I’m going to do everything. And my mom saw me doing it and was like I don’t have to do this anything. So, now that job has fallen to me. And, it’s a lot of prep work. And, it’s a lot of fun when it gets finally done. You take it out of the oven, and everybody gets to carve into it. It’s pretty cool]

OLD DOMINION FINISHES PODCAST AND HEADS HOME FOR THANKSGIVING

Old Dominion just finished their fourth episode of their podcast called One Fan to Interview the Band. The recorded during a recent visit to Syracuse, New York. The band is now off the road until December 4. In the meantime, they’ll each be traveling home for Thanksgiving break. We talked to them about their holiday traditions and here’s what Matthew Ramsey and Trevor Rosen told us: [Yeah. My family on Thanksgiving, it’s a big gathering. Family from everywhere comes to my parents’ house because usually it’s like 40 people for dinner. You know, my mom’s got like tables in different rooms and she’s got the kitchen- she’s got like a schedule for what everyone is going to cook because they all come and stay for the week. It’s insane. So, they all cook the food, but before dinner we always do like- get in a big circle and it takes a while, but everyone goes around the circle and says what they are thankful for. Trevor Rosen: Yeah, I grew up in Detroit, so part of the Thanksgiving tradition is to watch the Lions and it’s cool because sometimes they actually win.]

FAST FACTS

They have twice won CMA Vocal Group of the Year and twice won ACM Group of the Year.

The bands’ next show is December 4 in Las Vegas.

I’m thankful for what the fans have done. I mean there’s a lot of stuff to be thankful for in that regard. And I’m thankful that I was given the opportunity to do it my own way. I’m thankful that I’m going to get to keep doing this and do it the way that I want to do it.]
