On Today’s Show
November 29, 2019 9:35 amA traffic reporter in Kansas City named Nick Vasos was out sick last Friday after he had oral surgery. And he tried to send an email to his co-workers to let them know. But instead, he CC’d everyone at his station’s parent company. So almost 200 news stations got the email, and a bunch of them did segments telling him to get well soon. The hashtag “PrayersForNick” also went viral over the weekend.

Emma Brown who lives in Edmonton has a severe allergy to the cold that causes her to break out into hives when she’s exposed to a cold stimulus. The 18-year-old was officially diagnosed when she was 16, after years of thinking her symptoms were just a part of regular life. After seeing a story about someone else with the same symptoms, Emma did some research. She found the ice cube test, where an ice cube is placed on the skin for five minutes to test for a reaction. “Most people will just turn red, or be a little numb. For me, my whole arm broke out into hives,” says Emma.
An allergy Doctor says people like Emma who are allergic to the cold will likely always have the allergy, but the severity of their symptoms could improve over time.

GOOD NEWS
Burpees involves a simple transition from a standing to plank position and back again. The thought of doing burpees for 12 hours straight would be insane to most but that’s not stopping a Montreal man from trying.
Samuel Finn will attempt to do just that TODAY when he’ll try to complete 5,300 chest-to-ground burpees in half a day. If he succeeds, he’ll nab the Guinness World Record for most burpees in 12 hours. Last month, he completed 2,179 burpees in five hours, his “last big challenge” after about six months of training for the big day.
The attempt is being done in memory of his brother Cedric, who was diagnosed in 2017 with a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer. He died nine months later at the age of 27. Finn started a hashtag and website for the attempt dubbed BURPEES4CED and says he’s raised some $38,000 for cancer research.
The current record Finn will attempt to crush Friday is 5,010 burpees in 12 hours, which a Michigan man completed in October. It won’t be easy. Jean-Francois Gaudreau, the owner of the gym where Finn will make his record attempt, has faith but was blunt about what it takes to accomplish Finn’s goal.
“You need to be crazy to do burpees for 12 hours,” said Gaudreau. “It’s super intense because it’s the same movement… It’s super long. Very tough on the joints.”
But the intensity of the endeavor is exactly why Finn chose it. “I wanted to pick something that would be really suffering for me to show that we can do much more than we think even though we are going through hard times,” he said.

When You Load a Dishwasher, Should the Silverware Point Up or Down?
Here’s a mundane topic you might be oddly passionate about: When you load a dishwasher, should you put the silverware in so it’s pointing up or down? Or does it even matter at all?
Someone tracked down as close to an “expert” on the topic as they could find. A guy named Ashley Iredale has a degree in industrial design. And he makes a living writing about appliances like dishwashers and washing machines.
According to him, it DOES matter which way you do it. And if you want to do it right, the silverware should be pointing DOWN. So the handles are at the top. Here’s why . . .
First, it’s a little safer. Especially with knives, because it’s easier to cut yourself if you put them in blade-up.
Plus, it’s just more hygienic. If they’re facing down, you’ll only touch the handles. So the part of a spoon or fork that goes in your mouth won’t get germs or smudges on it when you take them back out.
Some people think putting them in the other way gets them a little cleaner. And he says that MIGHT be true with some dishwashers. But if there’s any difference, it’s marginal. So it’s not worth it.

LUKE COMBS SETS AWARDS GOAL FOR NEXT YEAR
Luke Combs announced on Twitter a personal challenge for next year. He posted this statement: “New life goal… win a Waffle House Tunie Award. I had no idea this was a thing.” The online awards show is in its 3rd year and celebrates the most played songs on the restaurant’s jukeboxes. Past winners have included Hootie & The Blowfish, Chris Stapleton, and Foreigner. Luke just picked up 2 trophies at the recent CMA Awards and goes into Thanksgiving with a lot to be thankful for. Luke tells us more: [I value Thanksgiving a lot. You know, I value family. I value you friends and time spent with those people is something that money can’t buy and something that you can never get back. So, I always take Thanksgiving off- the entire week of Thanksgiving every year so that my band and crew can spend time with their families. I also don’t want anybody making plans to come see our show, you know, the night before Thanksgiving because I just feel like that time should be spent with the people that are most important to you. There’s other times to go out and do a show and you know sing songs and make money I think that Thanksgiving is too important to be looked over.]
Keith Urban – says he was astonished by the Thanksgiving holiday when he first moved to America about 25 years ago. The Australian-born musician says: “I remember going to this family’s home, they invited me to Thanksgiving, and I couldn’t believe the volume of food. It was insane. I’ve never seen so much food in my life…Then after the food, there was like 12 desserts.” And he was expected to try them all.
