A 17-year-old girl in Phoenix got locked out of her parents house, so she tried to get in through the chimney.  She got stuck and had to be rescued by firefighters.

Here’s her friend talking about what a dumb idea it was, and how her parents were not happy about it.

There’s a World War 2 veteran in Pennsylvania named Andrew Slavonic who just turned 102 years old.  And he says the secret to his longevity is drinking at least one Coors Light a day.  He recently did an interview with Fox News and bragged that he sometimes has three a day.  But his first beer at 4:00 PM is always the most important.

Anna Faris was extremely thankful to the North Lake Tahoe Fire Department on Thanksgiving, as she and her family were saved from carbon monoxide poisoning. She took to Twitter to thank emergency services for coming to their rescue, writing that she feels ”very fortunate”. The group of 13 assumed they were suffering from altitude sickness, and two members of the party were taken to hospital to be treated. Upon further inspection, it was found that the rented house had more than six times the maximum recommended carbon monoxide level.

 TODAY IS……………….

  • “St Nicholas Day”, commemorating the 4th-century bishop who died December 6, 342 AD and from whom the traditions of “Santa Claus” and exchanging gifts were derived. No wonder he’s the patron saint of both children and merchants! Many European kids awaken today to find candy and oranges in their shoes, or if they’ve been bad … a piece of coal.

  • “Microwave Oven Day”, Percy Spencer discovered microwave cooking in 1945 when he came too close to a magnetron tube and a chocolate bar in his pocket began to melt.

GOOD NEWS

“Trees for Troops” in the U.S. was formed back in 2005.  And each year, they deliver thousands of free Christmas trees to American military bases all over the world.

The entire charity is run by nine people.  But hundreds of volunteers also help make it happen.

Between now and Christmas, they’ll deliver about 16,000 trees to bases across the country, and overseas.

Over the past 15 years, they’ve delivered over a QUARTER-MILLION trees.

About 800 farmers in 25 states participated last year.

DO YOU TAKE A PEEK?

60% of us think it’s fine to look through someone’s medicine cabinet, according to a new poll.

And 21% of us would use someone’s TOOTHBRUSH if we needed to.

The products we’re most likely to use without asking are shampoo, toothpaste, and conditioner.

Here’s the scene from “Seinfeld” when they talk about Jerry going through his girlfriend’s medicine cabinet

Having a Dog Around Makes Kids Better at Reading

Researchers at the University of British Columbia found that children tend to read more, and be more engrossed in what they’re reading, when a DOG is in the room.

They had a bunch of 8- and 9-year-olds sit and read books out loud.  First without a dog, and then with a therapy dog in the room with them.

And with the dog there, they got through more pages . . . felt more interested in what they were reading . . . and were more likely to want to KEEP reading.

The researchers intentionally chose books that were slightly above each kid’s reading level, just to see how quickly they’d get frustrated.  And for some reason, having a dog there made them try harder and stick with it.

It’s not clear why it works, but previous studies have had similar results.  It might be that having a dog around just keeps kids calm.

Either way, it’s more evidence that having a dog could be beneficial for your kids, especially if they’ve had a hard time with their reading skills.

JASON ALDEAN RETURNS TO VEGAS FOR FIRST SHOWS SINCE ROUTE 91 TRAGEDY

Jason Aldean heads to Las Vegas this weekend for three back-to-back shows at Park Theatre at Park MGM. This marks the superstar’s first full headlining shows in Sin City since the tragic Route 91 Harvest Festival mass shooting in 2017.

While Jason says he and his band and crew are happy to be back in front of the Vegas fans, playing in that city will always be bittersweet. [“You know, we’re excited! It’s gonna be a little weird. We’ve obviously been to Vegas since then but to play a show . . . I know there’s been a lot of people kind of waiting for us to come back out there to do that and we’re excited but it’s . . . I just think it’s gonna be a little odd for us every time we go there, and I’m not saying that we’re not looking forward to it, cause I really am. I mean, there’s always gonna be a little bit of a different vibe, I think, around shows, any show that we ever play out there.”]

Jason Aldean: Ride All Night Vegas begins on Friday (Dec. 6th).

He just released his ninth studio album, 9, which debuted at Number One on the Billboard Country Albums chart.

THOMAS RHETT TURNS DOWN REALITY TV OFFERS

Thomas Rhett and his picture-perfect family have had more than a couple opportunities to share their lives on reality TV, but that’s one line they will not cross. Acting, however, is a different story.

Thomas tells us: [“Honestly, we’ve been asked a bunch of times to do like, a reality show, but I just don’t think that’s something me and Lauren . . . I mean we give enough of ourselves, I think, on social media and we pretty much open our home and our marriage to our fans in a way, where it’s like you see that the good, bad, the ugly.  And I think a reality show might be too much.  But this year will be the first time that I’m gonna try to start delving into a little bit more gettin’ behind the camera, and I don’t think I want to be like an ‘actor’ actor, but I think it would be pretty fun to be in a few scenes in a big movie or something like that.”]

Thomas sits in the Top Five on the Country charts with “Remember You Young,” the latest from his Center Point Road album.

Rob Lowe’s Secret to Healthy Christmas Trees Is Feeding Them 7-Up

ROB LOWE was on “Ellen” earlier this week, and he said he’s OBSESSED with Christmas trees, and that the tree is “all he cares about during the holidays.”  (???)

And he can’t bear to see them dry out.  He said, quote, “I have a phobia about the pine needles getting all brittle and falling, and it’s going to be flammable.”

So he’s found a SECRET to making them last.  He puts 7-Up in the tree stand.  Actually a lot of it.  The reservoir is always filled with half 7-Up and half water.

A few people were very confused by this . . . but Rob isn’t the only one who does it.  It IS a Christmas tree “hack” that’s been passed down over the years.  Some people say the trees need sugar and citric acid to help them absorb the water.

Others believe you should add aspirin or bleach in with the water.  The thought behind that is that it prevents mold.

(And possibly kills your dog.  But hey, at least you squeezed a few more days out of that Christmas tree!)

So does 7-Up work?  Well, no . . . probably not.

The Executive Director of the National Christmas Tree Association, which IS a thing, says, quote, “We hear about all kinds of things people do to their trees.  We recommend just water . . . what the tree used while it was growing.”

He does have a few ACTUAL tips though . . .

The fresher the tree the better . . . and before putting it into the stand, cut an inch or so off the bottom, and get it in water immediately.  It’ll close off with sap if it is left out of water for more than two hours.

He adds, quote, “Don’t let the new cut on the trunk go dry, it needs to remain under water during the whole time it is in your home.

“Treat it like a fresh cut flower in a vase.  If you follow those tips, your tree will drink a lot of water in the first week to 10 days and be good for the whole season.”
