On Today’s Show
January 13, 2020 9:35 amA woman on the Canadian version of “Family Feud” had an embarrassing answer on Thursday. It was a tie-breaker round at the end of the show, and they had to name “Popeye’s favorite food.” The correct answer was spinach. But her answer was “chicken” . . . as in Popeyes Chicken. It all worked out though, because Popeyes Chicken is now giving her family $10,000 worth of free food to make up for the $10,000 they didn’t win.

When TOM HANKS accepted his Cecil B. DeMille Award at the “Golden Globes”, the camera panned quickly to HENRY WINKLER. Why? Is there some kind of connection between these two? Apparently, these guys have beef going back 30 YEARS. That’s because Henry was the director of Tom’s 1989 comedy “Turner and Hooch” . . . until he got FIRED 13 days in, because they didn’t get along.
In a 1993 interview, Henry said, quote, “Let’s just say I got along better with Hooch than I did with Turner.” Turner was Tom . . . Hooch was a DOG.
Henry also talked about it last year on “Watch What Happens Live”, but he avoided taking a direct shot at Tom.

GOOD NEWS
There’s a woman in Milwaukee who grew up with no family. But now she has a very BIG family. 46-year-old Jessica Benzakein ended up in foster care when she was 12 after her mom abandoned her. And no one wanted to adopt a kid that old, so she spent the rest of her childhood in the foster care system.
Since then, she’s gone to college, had two kids, and made a nice life for herself. But on Friday, her family got a lot bigger . . . when she officially adopted SIX KIDS.
Four of them are brothers . . . the other two are also brothers . . . and both of her biological kids are boys. So that’s EIGHT BOYS in the house now.
They range in age from 4 to 17. So most of them were in the same situation she was in, and probably wouldn’t have been adopted by anyone else.
Jessica and her ex-husband started fostering them a few years ago. But the adoption means she’s officially their mom now.
She says she used to think she didn’t need a family, then realized she REALLY wanted one. And having so many kids around feels like it gives her purpose.

WHY SCIENCE SAYS CLUTTER IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH
It might be time to clean out that one closet. Mayo Clinic researchers say that clutter can actually cause your stress levels to rise, which in turn can affect your physical and mental health. Multiple older studies have confirmed this, with one from 2010 finding that women who described their homes as “cluttered” had higher levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, in their bodies, and felt more and more depressed over the course of a day. The good news is that fixing that clutter situation can actually make these issues improve. Consider going through your cluttered stuff in batches, take stock of your stuff, and minimize what you have by donating some items.
It really doesn’t matter if you’re decluttering a huge home or a small drawer; they both can be overwhelming. That’s because the toughest part of decluttering isn’t how many things you need to go through, it’s making the choice of what to keep and what to let go of.
Here are five questions to ask yourself…
- Have I used this item in the past year? Try to remember a time when you used the thing you’re weighing on. If it hasn’t been worn, used, or appreciated since last fall, let it go.
- Will I use it in the year ahead? Try to resist any thoughts about how you “might” use it. If you don’t have a real need or plan to do something with it, the answer is “no.”
- If I was shopping right now, would I buy this again?
- If it is broken, is it worth fixing? Also, will you actually go and get it fixed.
- Would I keep this if I moved? Would it be worth packing up, moving, and unpacking in a new space?

FIRE UP THE DeLOREAN:
An astrophysicist says that he has figured out how to build a time machine.
Professor Ron Mallett from the University of Connecticut claims to have written a scientific equation that could be used to create a device that takes people back in time.
He even told CNN that he has already built a prototype to show how it could work.
His machine is based on Einstein’s theory of special relativity, which says that time accelerates or decelerates according to the speed at which an object is moving. That’s as scientific as we’re going to get in explaining it, but he believes he’s on to something.
His peers, however, aren’t convinced.

RESTART ME UP:
Everyone, it seems, has got a smartphone. And we all shell out a tidy sum of money to get one, to access the internet, and for all those accessories that we just HAVE to get.
So, if you could make your phone last a little longer, wouldn’t you like to know how? Experts seem to agree that in order to help your smartphone continue to perform well as it gets older, you should restart it once per week. A full restart.
That involves shutting it off, letting it rest for a full minute, and then firing it back up.
Doing so provides many benefits to your phone, including preventing crashes, retaining memory, prolonging battery life, and making the operating system run more smoothly in general.

LADY A STRUGGLED THROUGH ‘TOUGH’ TIME TO BUILD CLOSE RELATIONSHIP
Lady Antebellum has never been closer as a band, and it shows in the songs on their latest album, Ocean, which was released in November. Group member Charles Kelley tells us they had to learn to be open and honest with each other, and that found its way to the music. [“I think as a band we’re definitely as close and open as we’ve been in a long time. I think we’re trying to be completely honest and you’ll hear it in the songs. The past two, three years have been really tough for us as a band, just kind of going through so many life changes, and I think really trying to recognize what each of us wants out of this career and out of this life. And we came to the conclusion that balance – for us to continue to do this – it’s going to be balance and trust and open and honest conversations.”]
They are confirmed to perform at the ACM Beach Bash at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas on April 4th. The event precedes the ACM Awards, which will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena
April 5th.
KELSEA BALLERINI OFFERS SAGE ADVICE TO A YOUNG ‘HOMECOMING QUEEN’
Kelsea Ballerini offered some sage advice to a pre-teen fan who wrote her a letter about how her music is helping her deal with bullying at school. Twelve-year-old Ellie wrote in part, “I just really wanted to say thank you. Thank you for having a voice that helps mend my troubles. The song I want to recognize most is ‘Homecoming Queen.’ This song reads my mind. I’ve been feeling really sad because people have said some nasty things that I try not to acknowledge.”
Kelsea responded directly to Ellie on Instagram because she said she couldn’t find her address to write back. The singer wrote, “Middle school was really hard for me too. It’s a time when everyone is starting to discover who they are, it’s awkward and emotional, and unfortunately the way some people feel like they have it together is by tearing other people apart. Try your best to breathe through it and let it roll off of you, and please please remember that it’s not your weight to carry. It will make you stronger and full of grace. I also promise that middle school will be over before you know it. Hang in there, my little homecoming queen. Sending you so much love and light . . .”
Kelsea’s single “Homecoming Queen” sits in the Top 20 and climbing on the country charts.
LUKE COMBS NOT SURPRISED BY SUCCESS
Since popping up on the country music scene barely four years ago, Luke Combs has become one of the most successful artists in the genre, having released seven singles and all peaking at Number One on the country charts. He’s also quickly progressed from small venues to arenas and now stadiums, selling out pretty much every show.
Does Luke’s success shock him? Not really. He tells us: [“I also don’t necessarily feel like surprised by it maybe just because when I picked the guitar up and it started to make sense to me I knew that I had found something that I felt like I was meant to do and whatever way that ended up playing out for me was something that I was gonna be happy with, and it was like, ‘This is what I’m supposed to be doing.'”]
Luke has also already become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. He’ll celebrate his one-year anniversary in June.
