On Today’s Show
January 14, 2020 9:35 amNBA star ANDRE IGUODALA won three NBA titles with the Golden State Warriors, and he’s now making $17.1 million a season.
But he’d like to share this piece of wisdom: Money isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
He Tweeted, quote, “Life would be simpler in a one-bedroom apartment with a Prius and some golf clubs . . . money [is] overrated.”
It’s also worth pointing out that Andre is making $17.1 million . . . without even earning it. The Warriors traded him to the Memphis Grizzlies over the summer, but he’s refused to report to the team, and has been sitting out all year. He wants to be traded to a better team . . . and apparently the Grizzlies have agreed to let him work out on his own, while they attempt to trade him at some point.

There’s been some unconfirmed talk that Universal is planning to remake “Jaws”.
Supposedly, they want Andy Muschietti to do it. He directed the recent “It” movies, and he’s also working on a remake of the classic werewolf flick “The Howling”.
STEVEN SPIELBERG directed the original “Jaws”, which is 45 years old, if you can believe that. They’re hoping he’ll produce the remake.

GOOD NEWS
The next time your back hurts or you’ve got a headache, try doing something nice for someone ELSE. A new study found it might help with the pain.
Researchers in China did a series of studies with about 300 people, and found that doing good deeds can work like a pain reliever.
One of the studies asked people if they’d like to donate to charity. Then their brains were scanned with an MRI machine while they received a mild electric shock.
And for the ones who wanted to donate, there was less activity in a part of the brain associated with pain. So it didn’t hurt as much. It even worked with chronic pain. When people with cancer were asked to cook something for other patients, their pain levels dropped immediately.
It’s not clear why it works, but it might have to do with our evolution. Basically, we’ve evolved to look out for each other and make sacrifices for the greater good. And when we do it, we get rewarded with a sort of “helper’s high.”

Plastic Bag Ban in Thailand Has Shoppers Finding Bizarre Alternatives to Carry Groceries
A nationwide ban on single-use plastic bags in Thailand is causing shoppers to get creative with how to carry their groceries.
Though the ban does not fully go into effect until 2021, major retailers like 7-Eleven are no longer supplying the beloved plastic bag. Now shoppers are using suitcases, baskets and things you couldn’t imagine at stores.
The trend has taken a life of its own, more so for social media likes than practical use it seems.
Thai shoppers have taken to Instagram and other social platforms to share their unique and somewhat bizarre alternatives to plastic bags which include:
- Suitcases
- Buckets
- Laundry bags
- Pressure cookers
- Roasting pans
- Construction cones
- A wheelbarrow
- Baskets with straps tied to them
- Designer handbags

Employee Stole $48,000 Worth of Harry Potter Merchandise to Sell on eBay
An employee at the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London, England has been charged with stealing almost £37,000 ($48,000) in merchandise during their employment there. Between December 2017 and March 2018, 35-year-old Adam Hill stole 1,040 items including wands, ties, badges and key rings, and sold them on eBay.
At one point, Hill was sending the parcels from the company’s own mail room. He was caught after colleagues started to notice merchandise popping up and then disappearing underneath Hills’ desk. Police officers searched Hills’ home as well as his car, where they found 12 packages ready to be posted. Hills pleaded guilty to the theft and was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence of 14 months plus 250 hours of community service.
Two GM Engineers Are Busted for Using Two Unreleased New Corvettes
The 2020 Chevy C8 Corvette Stingray officially goes into production next month. But two of the engineers working on the car for General Motors couldn’t wait that long to open it up and see what it could do.
27-year-old Alexander Thim from West Bloomfield, Michigan and 30-year-old Mark Derkatz from Windsor, Ontario, Canada are two engineers who were working on the Stingrays at GM’s plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky last week.
And after hours on Wednesday night, they took two of the Stingray prototypes out of the plant . . . and STREET RACED them.
They were both busted by the cops for racing in a 45 mile-an-hour zone . . . Alexander for going 120 miles-per-hour and Mark for going 100. So I guess Alexander won?
The cops say they smelled alcohol on both of them at the time, too.
Both guys were charged with racing a motor vehicle on a public highway, reckless driving, and speeding. GM says it’s investigating.

STUDY: TO LIVE LONGER, DRINK GREEN TEA INSTEAD OF BLACK TEA
If you’ve got a hankering for some tea, you should really go for green tea.
A new study from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences shows “habitual” tea drinkers– or those who drank green tea three or more times a week– had longer and healthier lives compared to those who didn’t drink any tea, or those who drank black tea.
Drinking that much green tea was associated with a 20 percent lower risk of suffering from heart disease or a stroke, and a 22 percent lower risk of dying from either cause.
Green tea is rich in polyphenols, which are known to protect against cardiovascular disease.

WINDOWS 7
It’s the end of the line for Windows 7.
Microsoft will no longer support the 11-year-old operating system as of TODAY. For users, that means Microsoft will stop providing updates and security patches for Windows 7.
The changes will affect hundreds of millions of people because more than one-third of PCs use Windows 7. That is slightly fewer than Windows 10, the most popular PC operating system, which is on about half of the world’s personal computers. Microsoft said that Windows 7 users can still use their computers after today, but the company warns they will be at “greater risk for viruses and malware.”
The company is encouraging people to upgrade to Windows 10 for $139 or buy a new device running Windows 10 if their computer is more than three years old. It previously offered a free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 when Microsoft launched its latest operating system more than four years ago.

10 Most Unforgettable Country Music Moments of the 2010s
The Boot listed the “10 Most Unforgettable Country Music Moments of the 2010s.” Sadly, the Route 91 tragedy was #1. It had to be. On the bright side, GARTH BROOKS returned, and CHRIS STAPLETON got discovered. Here’s the list:
- The Route 91 Massacre in 2017. Final count: 59 people died and over 800 were injured.
- Tomatogate in 2015. If you’re not familiar. A consultant tried to explain the lack of female country artists on the charts by saying they’re the tomato in the salad, while males are the lettuce. (???) At the very least, it ignited an important conversation.
- Randy TravisGets Arrested, Suffers a Stroke, Continues to Recover. Randy had big troubles in 2012 when he was arrested twice for alcohol-related incidents. The next year he had a stroke that left him partially paralyzed. His recovery continues.
- Taylor SwiftLeaves Country Music in 2014. Our loss is pop music’s gain, right?
- Troy GentryDies in a Helicopter Crash. It was in September of 2017 when he accepted that helicopter ride.
- Joey Feekof Joey + Rory Valiantly – and Publicly – Battles Stage IV Cancer. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014. She died two years later at the age of 40.
- Garth BrooksReturns. He retired in 2000 to raise his two daughters, and although he popped up here and there, he kept his word. In 2014, he was back.
- George Strait“Rides Away” From the Road in 2012. “Cowboy Rides Away” was his farewell tour, but he’s still recording music and performing when it pleases him.
- Glen CampbellFights Alzheimer’s Disease. He was already battling the disease when he went public in 2011. The Rhinestone Cowboy left us two years ago.
- Chris Stapleton’s2015 CMA Awards Night Catapults Him into Superstardom. Hopefully you were watching that night when he went from hard-working country singer to “Why is this guy not a superstar?” The good news? He is now.
