A Calgary Airbnb host has a unique seasonal property for rent that offers guests the chance to experience winter in an igloo. It has two amenities — free parking and a first aid kit.

No kitchen, bathroom or Wi-Fi is offered with the $15-per-night property, but guests do have access to the outdoor firepit, which comes with a bundle of wood.

According to the ad, the nine-foot igloo accommodates two people comfortably. Guests are advised to bring their own sleeping bags and pillows; however, the igloo does contain a thermarest and mylar space blankets for comfort.

“You get to experience it without being stuck in the back country for your first time and if you don’t like it you can head back to the safety and warmth of your home.” No booking dates are currently available.

WEB FIND OF THE DAY          He is a Plowman for the County

Our web find is a video from Montana.

It’s a snow plow driver singing about the stuff he has to put up with while on the job . . . and it’s set to the tune of Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman”.

The surprising part is how well the guy can sing.

GOOD NEWS

Back in 1977, there were less than 20 giant tortoises left on Española Island, which is part of the Galapagos.  So researchers started a breeding program, and brought in a male tortoise named Diego that was living at the San Diego Zoo.

And in the last 43 years, he has basically saved his entire species.

They call him “Super Diego,” because there were only 14 giant tortoises when he got there.  And now, there are over TWO THOUSAND. Roughly 40% are Diego’s offspring.  So he’s responsible for about 800 of them.  The researchers say lady tortoises find him extremely attractive for some reason.

He’s now over 100 years old, and he’s started having trouble mating.  But the program was so successful, they decided to end it after reaching their original goal.

The Galapagos National Park announced Diego’s retirement on Friday.  He’ll be removed from the breeding center in March and live out the rest of his life on Española Island, where he was born.

Woman Claims She Predicted Harry and Meghan Markle Splitting from Royal Family

The royal family news that shocked the world  did not come as a surprise to one woman in England: Self-proclaimed fortune teller Jemima Packington is claiming she predicted Harry and Meghan Markle would step back from the royal family after “reading” some asparagus spears.

She’s reportedly the world’s only “asparamancer,” says she is able to see the future by throwing asparagus into the air and then observing how the spears land on the ground.  “I am usually about 75-90 percent accurate with my predictions”.

She says that she was able to predict Brexit, England winning the Cricket World Cup and Theresa May being pushed out as Prime Minister.

THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT GETTING GROCERIES:
➢ Shop at dinnertime or later:  To avoid crowds, it’s best to do your grocery-getting between 5-9pm…or even later. Only 4% of us shop after 9pm. Least crowded day of the week? Wednesday.

➢ Think before buying the weird produce:  That star fruit has been there a lot longer than the bananas. Familiar produce turns over much more quickly than exotic things.

➢ Be wary of “specials”:  When people see signs with numbers like “8 for $10!” or “Limit: 5 per customer”—they buy 30-100% more than they otherwise might have.

➢ Look high and low:  For good values, look near the floor or near the top of the shelf. The prices of these products, from smaller manufacturers who can’t afford to stock their products in the eye-level sweet spot, could be lower.

➢ Watch your wheels:  Want to avoid shopping-cart dents? Park further away. The more distance between your car and the door, the less likely it will be the victim of a cart crash.

Steve Gleason’s Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony

In the early 2000s, Steve Gleason was a safety in the NFL for seven seasons.

Nine years ago, he was diagnosed with ALS and was recently awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for his activism and efforts to fight the disease. Steve gave a very moving speech with the help of speech-generating technology that allows him to type words on a tablet through eye movements.

He said his life story is, quote, “not a football story or even an ALS story, but rather a human story.”  And he added, quote, “The truth is that we all experience pain in our lives, but I believe that the problems we face are our opportunity and define our human purpose.”

Steve and New Orleans quarterback DREW BREES were once teammates and Drew also spoke and got a little emotional.

LITTLE BIG TOWN KICK OFF TOUR AT CARNEGIE HALL TONIGHT

Little Big Town will perform a one-night-only special concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City tonight (Thursday, Jan. 16th). This is the venue’s first mainstream country performance since Alan Jackson in 2013, and it will be the only time the group performs their upcoming album, Nightfall, from start to finish. The concert also kicks off the group’s tour of the same name, which rolls on to New York’s Apollo Theater tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 17th) and Saturday (Jan. 18th).

This is the first time the group has played either historic venue. Phillip Sweet and Karen Fairchild tell us: [“I’m just so, so thrilled, I can’t even believe it’s gonna be happening. (Karen) Carnegie Hall will be different than any other night, because we’re gonna sing the record top to bottom in sequence, and because Carnegie Hall is so, well, there’s only one, and it’ll have a little bit different of a production feeling than the rest of the tour. So, I know a lot of fans are trying to make it to Carnegie ‘cause that’s a one-night only deal, and then The Apollo starts off the normal production of shows.”]

Little Big Town’s new Nightfall album will be released on Friday.

CARLY PEARCE HIT REPRESENTS ‘TURNING POINT’

Carly Pearce‘s current single, “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” featuring Lee Brice, bookends a significant chapter in her life. She co-wrote the personal song, which Carly tells us helped her close the door. [“It’s a closing chapter for me of a turning point in my life. When I stepped out of that relationship and found the real love, like, the real thing, that is what changed the course of my life forever, in every way. I did not realize – and I think sometimes when you’re in, just, a relationship that there’s nothing really wrong but it’s really not right, you are clouded to so many different things. And for me, this song and this emotion – and that’s why I wanted this song to come out is – it was the turning point, and I think it can be the turning point for a lot of people.”]

“I Hope You’re Happy Now” will be included on Carly’s upcoming self-titled album, due out on  Valentine’s Day (February 14th).
