On Today’s Show
January 31, 2020 9:35 amA guy in B.C. broke into a cell phone store by squeezing through a security gate. But then he realized all the valuable merchandise had been put away, and he couldn’t squeeze back out of the security gate. So, he just had to wait while cops showed up and arrested him. The owner of the store was watching a livestream from her security camera as it happened.

This Sunday is Groundhog Day, and PETA thinks the whole thing is cruel. So they want Punxsutawney Phil to be replaced by an animatronic robot going forward. Their argument is the whole event is traumatic for him. And if you incorporated A.I. into the robot, it might ACTUALLY be able to predict the weather.

A guy in England recorded his nearly four-year-old daughter singing a song she wrote called “Dinosaurs In Love”.
He accompanies her on piano as she sings about dinosaurs falling in love, eating people, having a party, eating fruit and cucumber . . . and then a big bang came and they died.
Last night on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots did a cover version. ______________________________________________________________________________

TODAY IS……………….

SUNDAY-
• “Groundhog Day”, the yearly tradition that perpetuates the hogwash that a hibernating groundhog prodded from its burrow can forecast 6 more weeks of Winter by seeing its shadow. This annual oddity stems from the Christian celebration of “Candlemas”. An old Scottish poem proclaims, “If Candlemas is fair and clear, there’ll be two winters in the year.” Canada’s best known groundhog prognosticator is ‘Wiarton Willie’, while ‘Punxsutawney Phil’ is America’s original forecaster and most famous hog.
2011 [09) A massive Winter storm hits North America for the 2nd time in the month, killing 24 people and causing $1.8 billion in damage across the US and Canada

GOOD NEWS
The Super Bowl is still a few days away. But there’s an early ad that’s getting people teary-eyed. David MacNeil is the founder and CEO of WeatherTech, which makes protective floormats for cars and trucks. They also started selling high-end food bowls for cats and dogs a while back.
Last year, they ran an ad for their pet care line during the Super Bowl, and it starred David’s golden retriever, Scout. But unfortunately, Scout’s had some health issues.
Back in June, he was diagnosed with a tumor on his HEART. And his vet only gave him a 1% chance of surviving it. But David refused to have him put down.
Instead, he took him to the University of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine. And the cancer treatments they gave him saved his LIFE. The tumor shrank so much, it basically disappeared.
So now Scout’s starring in a NEW Super Bowl ad this Sunday. But not for WeatherTech . . . it’s for the VETS who treated him.
David says the ad cost him about $6 MILLION. And it asks people to donate to the University of Wisconsin’s veterinary program. It’ll air sometime during the second quarter.

THE FIRST SUPER BOWL
The first Super Bowl was January 15th, 1967. TWO networks broadcast the game, since both had deals with one of the two leagues, NBC (the AFL) and CBS (the NFL). But both networks taped over the historic broadcast. Here is audio from a new documentary that is still in the works. This is Troy Haupt, owner of the only known recording of the game, and Jerry Kramer, a Green Bay Packer who played in the game.
The missing video of Super Bowl I was called THE HOLY GRAIL OF SPORTS. Then Troy Haupt found full-color tapes in his parents’ attic, that his dad recorded.
Finding the only known copy of Super Bowl I went from excitement to disappointment.
Producers of “The Tape: The Lost Recording of Super Bowl I” have a Kickstarter campaign, in hopes of raising enough money to finish the doc. But more importantly, to gain more interest in their fight to get the tape released, so it can be enjoyed by all football fans. One of them is the producer of “Napolean Dynomite”, Jeremy Coon.

(Most of) A DAY’S WORK:
The thought of a four-day week is certainly an appealing one, and it’s a concept that, according to studies, results in more productive workers.
But instead of a shorter workweek, how about a shorter workDAY? A Business Professor makes the argument that shorter workdays could be more impactful, particularly for parents who want to spend more time with their kids, and more practical.
He says that for most working families, the time between the end of work and bedtime is the primary window for families to spend time together, and that it would be lengthened if parents got out of work earlier. But if workplaces simply started closing on Fridays, Monday to Thursday’s after-school and after-work time would remain just as rushed as it is now.
He also points out that that shorter workdays would mean better alignment with school schedules, allowing more parents to be there for their kids after school.

JON PARDI PULLS FOR HIS ‘LOCAL TEAM’ IN THE SUPER BOWL
As a life long fan of the San Francisco 49ers, Jon Pardi was lucky enough to attend the NFC game where the 49ers beat the Green Bay Packers to go on to the Super Bowl. He will definitely be cheering on the 49ers on Sunday (Feb. 2nd) as they take on the Kansas City Chiefs, but regardless of who wins, Jon predicts it will be a great game.
He tells us: [“I grew up playing football and it was always the 9ers, you know? Like we looked up to those guys. I looked up to the 49ers. It was like our local team, and I guess i just never lost that spark from when they went to the Super Bowl. I think the game’s going to be great. The Chiefs are tough, and the Chiefs is another one. The Chiefs haven’t been in a Super Bowl in a long time either, so this is gonna be an all-out war of football (laughs) which is gonna be a great Super Bowl, and we’re gonna get a great Super Bowl from two great teams.”]
JON PARDI HIT IS GREAT WAY TO START NEW DECADE
Jon Pardi had a number one with “Heartache Medication.” It’s the first single and title track from his latest album.
Jon tells us that having a hit record is a great way to kick off a new year and a new decade. [“It’s fun. It’s upbeat, and I love the song. I love how country it is. I love that the fiddle kicks it off, and just for a new decade, kicking off with a song with a fiddle and keeping it more on the low-key country-side. Even getting to No. 2 has been an awesome way to kick off the new decade, so that’s probably the biggest thing to me is putting a new record out and getting all the way to 2, and hopefully No. 1, and just getting ready for the next single and getting ready for touring and it’s all coming together.”]
Jon just kicked off his tour, with an upcoming performance at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo on Feb. 9th.
FAST FACTS
Jon is also climbing the charts with Thomas Rhett on their collaboration called “Beer Can’t Fix” from Thomas’ Center Point Road album.
Jon’s Heartache Medication album was released in September.
KANE BROWN WEIGHS IN ON THE SUPER BOWL
There’s no doubt in Kane Brown‘s mind who this year’s Super Bowl champs will be when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers this weekend. He tells us: [“For this year’s Super Bowl, I’m going with the Chiefs. Pat Mahomes, that’s my guy. And, I’m going to say it’s going to be a high scoring Super Bowl. I going to say it’s going to be 42 to . . . I’m going to say 28, Chiefs.”]
Kane will be tuned in to the Super Bowl when it airs live from Miami on Sunday (Feb. 2nd) on Fox. The halftime show will feature performances by Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
Kane sits at Number Six this week on the Mediabase chart with his latest release, “Homesick.”
FAST FACTS
Kane kicks off his The World Wide Beautiful Tour also on Sunday in Dublin, Ireland.
The North American leg of the tour begins in Atlantic City, NJ on February 29th with special guests Russell Dickerson and Chris Lane on select dates.
LUKE BRYAN’S FAVORITE SUPER BOWL SNACKS
Luke Bryan says the food that comes along with watching football and especially this weekend’s Super Bowl is every bit as important as the teams playing in the final matchup. He tells us he looks forward to specific football snacks at the Bryan household. [“Definitely Super Bowl is like the queso, the Frito Lay scoops with the Ro-tel situation. I guess it’s like, what’s the black-eyed pea stuff too? All of that, just stuff that you can sit there and have lots of sodium, and then just, it’s like Thanksgiving all over again.”]
The Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will air live from Miami on Fox on Sunday (Feb. 2nd).
Luke’s latest single, “What She Wants Tonight,” is a Top 10 hit and climbing on the country charts.
