Japan’s Yusaku Maezawa, the Billionaire founder of fashion retailer Zozo, says he’s pulled out of a search for his “life partner” who was to accompany him on a SpaceX flight around the moon in 2023. Maezawa, says he had “mixed feelings” about the love quest, which drew nearly 28,000 applicants and was to be turned into a documentary called Full Moon Lovers.
“To think that 27,722 women with earnest intentions and courage had used their precious time to apply makes me feel extremely remorseful to conclude and inform everyone [of] this selfish decision of mine,” he wrote in a tweet. The BBC notes the billionaire recently split from 27-year-old actress Ayame Goriki.

Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are returning as Riggs and Murtaugh, and director Richard Donner will be back as well. In addition to four films, the franchise spurred a TV series of the same name that ran from 2016-19 with a different cast.

GOOD NEWS
A guy near Austin, Texas named Jim McKay recently bought an old VCR at Goodwill to use for a film project. And the previous owner had left a tape in it from 1994 . . . of their son taking his very first steps.
The whole video was about 18 minutes, and showed the kid’s dad helping him learn to walk. So Jim knew it was important, and wanted to see if he could track down the family. He managed to get a local news station to air the footage. And earlier this month, he DID find the family.
The kid’s name is TyRe Alexander. (Pronounced Ty-ree.) He was 10 months old in the video, and he’s 26 now. It turned out his mom called him when she saw the news report and said, “Do you know you’re on TV right now?”
He says he was excited to watch it, because he’d never seen it before. And he’s extremely grateful to Jim for working so hard to track him down.

Does Wearing a Face Mask Really Protect You from the Coronavirus?
The coronavirus has been all over the news. You’ve probably seen footage of people in China walking around with face masks on. But do those masks really do anything to protect you?
Dr. Elisabeth Rosenthal is an expert on this stuff. She lived in China and covered the SARS outbreak in 2002. And she says most of the time, the answer is . . . probably not.
If you’re heading to a crowded space in the middle of an outbreak, it might be a good idea. But it’s overboard to put one on every time you go out. Here’s why . . .
- Things like the coronavirus and the flu don’t spread that easily outdoors. So unless you’re in a confined space like a bus or plane, it’s not really necessary.
- Even if your mask did block it, the virus would just stick to the mask. So if you weren’t careful, it would transfer to your hands when you took if off.
- Once a mask does get contaminated, it has to be thrown out. And there’s no way to tell if it’s contaminated or not. So people who wear them should be wearing a new mask every day. Otherwise it’s kind of pointless.
She says there is one thing you can do to protect yourself though: wash your HANDS more. Even if it’s airborne, you’re more likely to get a virus by touching something contaminated, like a doorknob. So washing up frequently is important.

DID YOU KNOW?
In light of the current coronavirus scare, Google Trends pointed out last week that search interest for “coronavirus symptoms” had increased by 1,050%.
It also listed the top five related searches during the previous 24 hours, including “What is coronavirus?” and “How to prevent coronavirus”.
But there is also data that shows we are surrounded by some very, very confused people.
There has also been a sharp spike in online queries for something called the “corona beer virus” over the past two weeks.

A GOOD WEEK:
Elon Musk had a really good day last week. Good to the tune of almost $2 billion. With Tesla’s shares surging 16%, Musk’s net worth increased by $1.7 billion, to about $32 billion. The 49-year-old Tesla CEO, who owns nearly 22% of the electric vehicle maker’s stock, is currently listed as the 28th-richest person in the world. He also has an estimated $12.5 billion stake in SpaceX, his privately held aerospace company. Musk’s fortune has increased by more than $10 billion since The Forbes 400 list of richest Americans was published in October. If Tesla can sustain its $100 billion market cap, he stands to get even richer, thanks to a $346 million pay package tied to the stock’s performance.
The Internet Took Issue with Riley Green’s Tweet About J-Lo and Shakira
RILEY GREEN got the Internet all riled-up with a Tweet he made during Sunday’s halftime show. Seems he was annoyed when JENNIFER LOPEZ and SHAKIRA started singing in Spanish.
Here’s what he wrote: “Great game . . . but can I get somebody to translate this Super Bowl halftime show so I know what they are singing about?”
One person said, “Riley. I love your music but it’s sad that you can’t respect people of different cultures.” Another said, “It’s music. It transcends language as you should know, and just as you like to show off your roots so do they. Tasteless tweet.”
One person tried to lighten the mood with, “I tried to press ‘one’ for English.”
Another tried to shame him with, “I thought you were better than this.” And fellow country star MICKEY GUYTON TWEETED, “I’m at a loss for words. Do better people. Step outside yourself for a second and do better.”
However, somebody did try to back him up by writing, “In all honesty, to me, they were singing too fast and you couldn’t make out the words. I truly don’t believe Riley was being disrespectful at all.”

MAREN MORRIS CONFESSES HER PREGNANCY FOOD CRAVINGS

She used to love seafood and now can’t stand the smell of it, but says she’s made up for it – with a new craving for sweets. Maren tells us more: [One thing I can’t live without food-wise since being pregnant is Talenti gelato. That’s been a non-negotiable, before bed I have to have ice cream. It’s like a more amplified sweet tooth than I ever had. Salted Caramel Truffle is the flavor, and careful with it because you’ll want to buy like 12 pints.]

Keith Urban on Why Country Stars Like Doing Vegas Residencies
There was a time when rock stars and country stars didn’t do a Vegas residency until the AARP card arrived. What changed? That’s what ROLLING STONE asked KEITH URBAN, who’s doing shows at Caesars Palace.
One reason is because, well, everybody’s doing it. Young performers, old performers, and every single musical genre you can think of plays Vegas.
And that’s another reason Keith likes it. There are enough non-country people in town who are there to be entertained, so they add his show to their Vegas itinerary.
He says, quote, “Our audience is quite diverse. We have people that love the country side of what I do, people that love the pop side of what I do. All the stuff that doesn’t really fit into any genre or category, which we’ve got a lot of.”
He’s referring to some of the crossover hits on his last three albums. Quote, “People come in to hear ‘The Fighter’ [and] ‘Blue Ain’t Your Color’, and they want some more songs like that. It’s great to be able to hit all the targets.”
