On Today’s Show
February 11, 2020 9:35 amThe owner of a jewelry store in Georgia was coming back from lunch when he saw a group of thieves robbing his store. So he attacked them with the only thing he had on hand . . . a bag filled with glass jars of pickles. He held one of them there until cops arrived. At least three of the four thieves have now been arrested. A guy who jumped in to help talked to a reporter about it afterward.

Eddie Murphy was on one of the late night shows and told a great story about
Rodney Dangerfield. He saw Eddie Murphy’s set when he was just 17 or 18, and said he didn’t think he would make it.
But they met again a few years later and he conceded with, quote, “Hey, who knew?”

An Elementary School Played “The Lion King” at a Fundraising Event
An elementary school in Berkeley, California hosted a PTA fundraiser . . . and they played last year’s remake of “The Lion King” to keep the kids happy.
But somehow Disney found out about it, and the company that handles their licensing sent the school a $250 fine for playing the movie without permission. The DVD was purchased legally at a Best Buy . . . but that doesn’t matter.
The school got an email saying that Disney “received an alert” about the “screening,” and, quote, “Any time a movie is shown outside of the home, legal permission is needed to show it, as it is considered a Public Performance . . . The PTA made $800 during the fundraiser . .
Naturally, a lot of people are upset . . . and one parent said that it’s a shame underfunded schools have to raise money to pay teachers and manage school programs . . . partially because of the GREED of big corporations like Disney.
UPDATE……
Disney CEO Bob Iger is SORRY that their licensing company fined the PTA of the school.
Disney waived the fee, and Iger TWEEETED, quote, “Our company apologizes to the Emerson Elementary School PTA, and I will personally donate to their fundraising initiative.” There’s no word how much he’s contributing.

- Neil Simon intentionally wrote a bad Broadway play called “Fools”, because his ex-wife had just won the rights to his next play in their divorce. So he wanted to make one that would flop. And it did . . . it only ran for one month in 1981.

GOOD NEWS
A convenience store in New York is blowing up on TikTok for a weird reason. They’re trying to bolster America’s MATH skills . . .
The owner’s son is 20-year-old Ahmed Alwan. He’s been posting videos where he asks customers simple math questions. And if they answer right, they win a mini shopping spree . . . and have FIVE SECONDS to grab as much stuff as they can.
A few of the videos seem staged, because he lets people take CASH from the drawer. And one guy tries to run off with a ton of lottery tickets. But apparently the other videos are legit.
The questions aren’t usually hard. For example, he asked one woman, “What’s 7 times 7, plus 10?” (The answer is 59.)
She got it right. And in five seconds, she ended up with a box of Cheese Nips, a bunch of chips, some pastries, three bananas, and a newspaper.
A local news station did a story on it, and Ahmed said he started doing it as a fun way to help out people in his community. But he also hopes kids see the videos, and it inspires them to learn. You can find him on TikTok and Instagram.

THOMAS RHETT AND FAMILY ‘PUMPED’ ABOUT NEW BABY
Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren, are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their third daughter, due any minute now. While it only makes sense that they may be stressed out about their growing family, Thomas tells us it’s just the opposite and everyone, including the baby’s big sisters, can’t wait. [“They’re really, really pumped. We’re all really excited. Before I had kids, I never really imagined that I would be this at-peace with two, and one on the way. I thought I’d be like, ‘What in the world is happening?’ But me and Lauren were actually talking the other day about, even though our lives are insanely chaotic, and we never really stopped going and we just keep growing our family, we really do feel, right now, that we’re at a more peaceful spot than we’ve ever been. Maybe we found the calm in the crazy somehow, but we’re excited. And, you know, Willa Gray and Ada always are touching Lauren’s stomach and we’re just pumped.”]
Lauren’s official due date was Monday (February 3rd).
FAST FACTS
Thomas is in the Top 20 and climbing on the charts with “Beer Can’t Fix,” featuring Jon Pardi.
He co-wrote Old Dominion’s brand new single, “Some People Do.”
LUKE COMBS IS A ‘SAVER’ BUT SPLURGES ON WATCHES
Between his songwriting hits, sold-out headlining tour dates and Country music chart success, Luke Combs is cleaning up, financially speaking. While he can certainly affford to splurge, he tells us he prefers to save his money and spend it on practical things most of the time. [“I’m kind of a saver in that sense, like I’m definitely not a guy that’s out buying anything and everything. I got a nice truck a number of years ago, after “Hurricane” came out. Before I had signed with Sony even I had saved enough money to pay for that in cash. I have bought everything cash. I bought my house cash, all the vehicles that I own I just . . . I’m a big believer in not being in debt to anybody. I mean I like watches, is my thing. That’s the only thing that I’ve splurged on, and of course, furniture for the house, which is kind of a must I guess (laughs) I’ll tell you what, Restoration Hardware hits pretty hard. It is unbelievable how much a couch can cost these days.”]
Luke is climbing the charts with “Does To Me” featuring Eric Church. It’s the third single from his What You See Is What You Get album.
