GOOD NEWS

Huge props to this Southwest flight crew.  But the passengers played an equally big part:  A couple from California named Dustin and Caren Moore recently adopted a baby girl, and had to fly to Colorado to get her.

On their trip home, a male and female flight attendant both made comments about how beautiful the baby was.  She was only eight days old.  So Caren and Dustin told them about the adoption, and explained why they were flying with such a young baby.

One of the flight attendants immediately got on the intercom to announce there was a “special guest” on the flight.  And when they mentioned the adoption, everyone CHEERED.  Then the whole plane gave them a makeshift BABY SHOWER.

The crew passed out napkins to write words of advice on.  Things like, “Always tell her you love her” and “Make time for date night.”  And they read a few of them out loud.

Later on, Dustin and Caren found out that the two flight attendants were married.  And something similar happened to them on their honeymoon flight.  So that’s where they got the idea.

They ended up with about 60 napkins, and arranged them all in a photo album, so they can look back on it. Dustin told the whole story on Twitter, and says it was a really amazing moment.

Especially because they’d been trying for a baby for almost a decade.

Skittles and Manchego Blast Off to Satisfy Space Station Crew Cravings

A cargo ship rocketed toward the International Space Station on Saturday, carrying candy and cheese to satisfy the astronauts’ cravings.

The nearly 4-ton shipment should arrive at the orbiting lab Tuesday. It took three tries over the past week to get the Antares rocket off the pad, with it finally taking flight at 3:21 p.m. — an auspicious 3-2-1.

Besides the usual experiments and gear, the capsule holds cheddar and manchego cheeses, fresh fruit and vegetables, chocolate and three kinds of gummy candy expressly requested by the three station astronauts: Skittles, Hot Tamales, and Mike and Ike’s.

Periodic supply runs by Russia, Japan and NASA’s two private shippers, Northrop Grumman and SpaceX, usually provide more than experiments, equipment, clothes and freeze-dried meals. The capsules also bring family care packages, as well as fresh food to offset the run-of-the-mill station grub.

Is It Safe to Drink an Old Glass of Water That Sat Out Overnight?

A lot of people leave water next to the bed in case they get thirsty at night.  So is it still safe to drink the next day?  Or does it go bad?

Well, the answer is it probably won’t kill you.  But it’s NOT the safest thing to do.  Especially if you already drank from it.

With an open glass of water, dust and bacteria can fall in and create a film of bacteria on top.  But even a closed bottle might not be a good idea.

Once you take a drink, bacteria from your mouth and lips gets in there and starts multiplying.  Since it’s mostly your own bacteria, it probably won’t make you sick, but it could.  And drinking from someone else’s bottle that’s been sitting is even riskier.

It doesn’t matter if it’s tap or bottled.  The same thing happens once it touches your lips.  And drinking from an old, used bottle you left in your car is worse, because heat from the sun helps bacteria grow even faster.

So experts say that in general, once you’ve put your lips to a bottle of water, you should try to drink it the same day or dump it out.

AGE OF HAPPINESS:
At what age are people happiest? According to neuroscientist David Levitin, happiness peaks at age 82.

But don’t worry, we do have happiness spikes well before that. In his research, Levitin found that generally, we begin to become less happy in our 30s, before things pick up again beginning at age 54.

In his new book: “The Changing Mind”, he says that younger adults often set “too high expectations” for happiness, but as we age, we “realize that life is pretty good.”

In addition to a positive outlook, he says that other factors influencing happiness include exercising, trying new experiences, maintaining loving relationships and getting rid of toxic ones.

Levitin says his discovery of a sharp boost in happiness beginning in our 50s “holds true across 72 countries from Albania to Zimbabwe.”

DID YOU KNOW?
In an incredible feat of remote engineering, NASA has fixed one of the most intrepid explorers in human history. Voyager 2, currently some 11.5 billion miles from Earth, is back online and resuming its mission after going “dark” January 28, likely after attempting to use too much of its available power supply, which triggered protection software. The fix is no easy task: It takes 17 hours one-way to communicate with Voyager 2 from Earth, which is the furthest away manmade object in space. That means a single information relay takes 34 hours.

GARTH BROOKS INVITES CHASE RICE TO OPEN STADIUM SHOW THIS WEEKEND

Garth Brooks plays his first Stadium Tour concert of the year on Saturday (Feb. 22nd) at Ford Field in Detroit. It’s already a history-making show with the stadium’s largest attendance ever at a one-night music event.

Garth will be joined by a special guest opener at all the stadium shows. He tells us: [“Like always, our ‘job’ is to get these opening acts out, so there’s not ‘one’ . . . and watch these kids get terrified walking out (on) that stage. And you love it ‘cause it brings back all the times you were scared to death! It’s great to watch ‘em break down in tears out there, and you’re going, ‘Oh, this is awesome!’ So, that’s what I love about opening acts. So, we’ll probably just keep doing what we do and go. And I do actually know who’s going to be in Detroit – it’s gonna be a fun one.”]

Last night (Monday, Feb. 17th), Garth revealed that Saturday’s opener will be Chase Rice and Chase joined him on Garth’s Inside Studio G on Facebook. The announcement brings full circle a story that began last summer. Last summer during CMA Fest in Nashville, Chase was doing an interview with Entertainment Tonight where he revealed that his lifelong idol is Garth. The superstar popped in on the interview to surprise Chase and invite him to open one of his stadium shows.

Amazon’s New Kane Brown Documentary and EP Are Out Tomorrow

Amazon is releasing the new KANE BROWN mini-documentary tomorrow.  It’s called “Velocity”, and it’s filled with behind-the-scenes stuff plus interviews, and concert footage.

The trailer is out now and it focuses on how he exploded out of nowhere.

It wasn’t long ago that he was singing covers and putting them on Facebook hoping to get a few followers.  He got more than a few.  At one point he was pulling in 20,000 new social media followers a day.

That led to him packing clubs, amphitheaters . . . and then to his massive sold-out concert last month at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.  He’s only the 11th country artist to do that.

There’s also an accompanying EP featuring live songs from the Staples Center concert.
