This is one way to make a statement. The town board in Croyden, New Hampshire voted to shut down the small town’s one-man police department The town has decided to pay state police to cover the town’s policing needs instead. The Police Chief since 2000, Richard Lee, was told he would need to turn in his badge and uniform immediately, and he so he stripped then and there. He walked out into a winter storm in his boots and underwear only and waited for his wife to pick him up. Lee says he was blindsided by the news.

There is a new app that could go a long way toward stopping the thousands of robocalls which occur every day. The creators of the “DoNotPay” app recently rolled out a feature called “Robo Revenge,” which provides users with a credit card that can be given to scammers in order to obtain information that can be used to track them down. In the U.S., the Telephone Consumer Protection Act gives people the right to sue someone for up to $3,000 if they’re found to have violated your privacy. Robo Revenge gives users the necessary legal documents to make a claim in court. Unfortunately, because there are no global rules concerning the practice, there is nothing that can be done if the calls are generated outside the US

People Don’t Care About Milestones Like Getting Married, Having Kids

When you were growing up, there were probably some milestones in your life you always planned on hitting:  Getting married, having a kid, buying a house, and so on.

Well, those days are pretty much over.  According to a new survey, 61% say a lot of the traditional milestones aren’t really important to them anymore.

The five things we’re now fine with delaying or even totally skipping are:

Saving for retirement . . . getting married . . . having kids . . . buying a home . . . and getting engaged. So why are we delaying them?  The five main reasons are:

Personal insecurities . . . not being financially stable . . . being with a partner who doesn’t prioritize those things . . . paying off student loans first . . . and our friends are also delaying those things, so we don’t feel any pressure to do them.

GOOD NEWS

A guy in New Brunswick, New Jersey named David Caldwell was freaking out last month when his fiancée went into labor 10 weeks early.  And a nurse named Lissa McGowan helped calm him down.  (It’s pronounced like Lisa.)

The best news is David’s fiancée and their son Zayne are both doing well.  He’s been putting on

weight and getting stronger every day.  But they’re in the news because of a weird coincidence.

After Zayne was born, David started looking at old photos of himself as a baby, because he was also a preemie.  And it turned out Lissa was the same nurse who took care of HIM as an infant.

Both of them were born at Saint Peter’s University Hospital.  And she’s been working there as a nurse for over three decades.

David found a photo from 1986 of her holding him as a newborn, and his fiancée realized it was the same nurse.  So they recreated the photo with their son last week.

Lissa says she bonded with David immediately when they met last month.  And finding out she cared for him as a baby was a, quote, “very nice surprise.”

Five Common Habits That Could Make You Sick

With the flu and coronavirus going around, we’ve got to be more careful than ever when it comes to staying healthy.  But here are five common habits that could easily get you sick.  And chances are you’re guilty of at least ONE of them . . .

  1. Biting your nails.  Putting your fingers in your mouth and biting your nails is unsanitary and can expose you to all sorts of bacteria, viruses, and infections.  It’s also not good for your teeth.

  1. Eating at your desk.  You’re typing on a keyboard that’s most likely covered in germs, and then putting food in your mouth.  Not a good combo.

  1. Smoking.  This one should be obvious.  If the cancer risk alone isn’t a good enough reason, smoking can decrease your immune function, making you more likely to catch the flu, a cold, or pneumonia.

  1. Not changing your sheets.  Dust mites love your nice, warm bed as much as you do.  And even though dust mites themselves are harmless, their droppings and body fragments can cause colds and trigger asthma symptoms.

  1. Not getting enough sleep.  According to BetterSleep.org, about half of Americans say they don’t get enough sleep, which is between seven and nine hours a night.  And when you DON’T sleep enough, it decreases your energy levels and makes you more susceptible to illness, since your cells can’t fully recharge while you snooze.

STUDY: TO GET KIDS TO EAT THEIR GREENS, BOTH PARENTS NEED TO SET A GOOD EXAMPLE

If you want your small child to eat their green you better be doing so too.

University of Eastern Finland researchers found that a positive example set by both mother and father promotes the consumption of vegetables, fruit, and berries among children ages three to five.

The study also showed that dinner is the most important meal at home when it comes to teaching kids to eat their vegetables. Researcher and Nutritionist Kaisa Kähkönen says, “This shows that teaching children to eat their greens is not something mothers should be doing alone.

A positive example set by both parents is important, as is their encouragement of the child.”

DID YOU KNOW?
You’ve seen photos of LeBron James with his knees wrapped in ice packs and his feet in a bucket of ice. But never has there been a published, peer-reviewed research paper that has definitively shown that ice is beneficial to the healing process.

In fact, recent studies have shown the opposite. Ice can delay healing, increase swelling, and possibly cause additional damage to injured tissues.

THOMAS RHETT’S LATEST HIT CAME FROM DAY ON THE GOLF COURSE

The idea for Thomas Rhett‘s latest hit, “Beer Can’t Fix,” came to him and one of his co-writers, Julian Bunetta, on the golf course. In fact, they put the theory to the test on the course that day, as Thomas tells us: [“’Beer Can’t Fix’ literally stemmed from a joke that was made on a golf course. We were playing golf and we were just doing terrible and we just decided to grab a beer and see how we played after that, and we both started playing a lot better after that. There’s a couple of situations in life where beer just makes experiences better, golf and fishin’ being two of those. And we just started kind of riffing this idea on there’s not much that beer can’t fix.”]

The song’s other co-writers are OneRepublic‘s Ryan Tedder and Zach Skelton.

His Center Point Road Tour opens in late May with special guest Cole Swindell and Hardy.

GARTH BROOKS SAYS ‘FUN’ ALBUM DUE OUT THIS SUMMER

Garth Brooks has been talking about his upcoming studio album, Fun, for some time but it looks likes fans finally have a timeline for when the project will be released. Before his Stadium Tour stop at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday (Feb. 22nd), Garth gave reporters an update on the project. [“Something has happened at the very last second that might have a song make it on there, so we’re exploring that over the next two weeks. I’m supposed to deliver it by March 1st, so it’ll be in production throughout March and April, so (it’s) looking like summer at some point. Music retail is totally different than what it was five years ago, way different than what it was 10 years ago, so now new ways to bring the music to the people are out there and we’re gonna explore those new ways this summer.”]

Garth’s latest hit, “Dive Bar,” featuring Blake Shelton will be included on the Fun album, along with his previous singles “All Day Long” and “Stronger Than Me.”

DON’T LISTEN TO COUNTRY

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has a mental conditioning coach who advises him to avoid listening to country music because, quote, “it’s so negative.”  He says you need to be mindful of the impact that music has, and you don’t want negative music dictating your “internal ad campaign.”
