On Today’s Show
February 27, 2020 9:35 amAn Illinois family said a wall in their 9-year-old daughter’s bedroom has been picking up radio signals for years – and no one knows why. Richard Smith said voices and music were repeatedly heard inside the wall in daughter Brianna’s room at their Lockport home, and the family eventually determined something inside the wall was picking up a local AM radio station.
The station, Christian radio station AM 1160, owned by Salem Media Group, sent out an engineer to investigate, but was unable to identify the issue. Smith said the wall was opened up and the electrical grounding was examined, but the family was still unable to figure out where the radio station was being picked up.

A company in Japan is giving its non-smoking employees an extra six days of vacation per year to compensate for smoking employees’ cigarette breaks. The Tokyo-based marketing firm Piala Inc. introduced the perk after employees complained that they were working more hours than staff who took regular smoke breaks. The company’s office is located on the 29th floor of a building, and resentment grew among non-smoking employees because smoking is only allowed on basement level, making each break last about 15 minutes.

Production in Italy on Tom Cruise’s upcoming “Mission: Impossible 7” has been halted after a number of people in the county have been diagnosed with the coronavirus. The movie was set to film in Venice for three weeks, but a rapid increase in the number of people with the virus across the northern part of Italy has caused Paramount Pictures to pause production. Cruise was not in the country at the time.

- “Strawberry Day”, today we pay homage to one of the most popular fruits in the world. Strawberries are the first fruit to ripen every year, so they are often called the “taste of spring.”

No, You Don’t Need to Shave Your Mutton Chops or Fu Manchu to Stay Safe from Coronavirus
Yesterday, there were TONS of reports that the CDC had put out a warning about how your FACIAL HAIR might put you at risk for catching coronavirus.
And there was even an infographic with 36 different facial hair styles to show which are and aren’t at risk.
The idea was that you need to make sure all of your facial hair fits under a mask or respirator . . . otherwise the virus could get stuck in the exposed hairs.
So some of the facial hair styles the CDC said were fine are: Clean shaven . . . soul patch . . . and the Zorro.
And some styles that would put you at risk are: Stubble . . . ZZ Top beards . . . mutton chops . . . the Fu Manchu . . . and the Dali.
But the whole thing actually had nothing to do with the current coronavirus outbreak. It was a chart from the CDC’s section on workplace safety, for people who need to wear masks and respirators at WORK . . . and it’s been on their website since 2017.
Currently, the CDC does NOT recommend wearing masks or respirators to avoid the coronavirus, unless you need to wear one for work.

RANDOM REPORT
- Walt Disneyinvented enclosed garbage cans to keep Disneyland from smelling bad. Until that point, public trashcans were wire mesh that didn’t block any of the garbage smell.
- Human beings have explored less than 5% of the world’s ocean floors.
- 95% of the paperwork filed in an average office will never again be seen by human eyes.
The John Denver song “Take Me Home, Country Roads” was written about Maryland, but the writers changed the lyrics to West Virginia since they thought that sounded more poetic.

GOOD NEWS
I guarantee this mom in Indianapolis had a more hectic week than any of us: 35-year-old Holly McNally had to deliver her OWN baby last Monday when her doctor couldn’t get to her hospital room on time.
Then three days later, she helped pull a guy from a fiery WRECK.
She was on her way home from the hospital on Thursday after visiting her son, who still had to be there for observation. And she saw an overturned tanker truck on fire.
So she stopped . . . jumped out of the car . . . and helped another person pull the driver to safety right before the truck EXPLODED. It turned out it was hauling jet fuel.
Luckily, they were able to get far enough away from the truck, so they’re okay. The driver ended up with serious burns, but it sounds like he’ll pull through.
Holly’s mom was in the car with her when it happened, and couldn’t believe she ran toward the fire. But Holly says she knew the guy was somebody’s son. And if it was her son, she’d want someone to help. So that’s what she did.

WHY BEING COLD (AND EXPOSURE TO GERMS) CAN GET YOU SICK
Cold weather doesn’t make you sick, but being cold can actually make it easier for you to get sick.
Research has shown that cold temperatures weaken your immune system and thus your ability to fight off infections. The longer you spend in the cold, the higher your chances of actually getting sick.
But still, you can’t get sick without being exposed to germs.
In the winter this is easier, as people often stay indoors and closer together in general, making it easier for viruses to spread.
So make sure you wear your coat and wash your hands often.

An 82-Year-Old Man Gets Jail Time for Constantly Blasting His Classical Music
There’s an 82-year-old guy named Ian Trainer in Liverpool, England. He doesn’t hear so well, so when he listens to his classical music, he BLASTS it.
And it got to the point after a few years that his neighbors called the cops.
Back in December, Ian’s neighbors got a court order that banned Ian from playing his classical music above a, quote, “normal talking level” of 65 decibels.
But he ignored the warning and just kept blasting his music.
So he was arrested for violating the order. And on Thursday, he was sentenced to 24 WEEKS in JAIL.

Shania Twain Grew Up So Poor and Dirty That Other Kids Didn’t Want to Sit Near Her
SARA HAINES interviewed SHANIA TWAIN for an episode of “Strahan, Sara and Keke” . . . and she shared a few things that may surprise you. When asked if she ever dreamed of having this huge career, she said no way.
Quote, “I couldn’t have ever imagined where I am today . . . from where I came from. I grew up underprivileged. I was always the dirty little kid at school or maybe somebody didn’t want to sit behind me because I had greasy hair.”
There was a fan question segment, and someone asked her to name her “favorite glamorous outfit” that she’s ever worn. I was thinking the “leopard print head-to-toe with the hood” getup from her “That Don’t Impress Me Much” video. Nope.
She said, quote, “I think the favorite is my ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman’ outfit. I didn’t realize that the world was going to get to this wonderful place where we’re less concerned about whether we’re a guy or a girl or whatever.
“We’re just so hung up sometimes on gender. And I want to wear a tie and I want to wear a shirt, but I don’t want to compromise and hide my femininity either. It was a hybrid gender look almost.”
Another fan asked what song was the “most therapeutic and healing” to write. She went with “You’re Still the One” because it’s taken on different meanings to her throughout years . . . and it keeps evolving with her.
Parents: Maren Morris Wants to Know Why She Needs a “Play Room”
MAREN MORRIS is currently pregnant with her first child, and apparently, she’s unsure why the parenting books are advising her to have a PLAY ROOM.
She Tweeted, quote, “Someone tell me [what] a play room is. When I was little, I’d play with Barbies in MY room, but now people are telling me the Barbies get their OWN room. [I’m] not judging anybody, it just does not compute that a small kid gets two living spaces. #PsychoHomeRenoAt9MonthQueries.”
Some parents responded that “outside” was their play room, and one of her followers had this to say: Quote, “It doesn’t matter what you call the rooms, kids will take over your entire house. Every square inch.”
