A guy in Clearwater, Florida recently took his 2003 Jeep Liberty into the shop for repairs, and they didn’t get it back to him for three weeks.  When they finally did, he found sand inside it, along with a pair of women’s underwear.  It had also been driven 1,000 miles, and someone racked up a bunch of parking tickets.  A reporter went to the repair shop, and the owner did NOT want to talk about it.  He claims the guy’s either lying, or a former employee did it.  But the employee can’t answer questions, because he’s currently facing MURDER charges.

Members of a college cross country team near Albany, New York really wanted Chick-fil-A, and the closest one they could drive to was 90 minutes away.  But then they realized a nearby airport had one.  So the captain of the team bought the cheapest plane ticket he could get for under $100 . . . went through security . . . and ordered for 18 people.  They got 15 sandwiches, 15 large fries, 156 chicken nuggets, one bag of cookies, and a lemonade.  Their final bill was just over $227.

TODAY IS……………….

  • “International STAND UP to Bullying Day”, a semi-annual event that takes place in both February and November.

SATURDAY-
• “Leap Year Day”, the calendar correction that occurs every 4 years.

✓ If we didn’t have Leap Year, our calendar would become so out-of-line, it would need a major adjustment like in 1582, when Pope Gregory XIII declared October 5th to be October 15th and 10 entire days instantly disappeared!

Half of Us Might Start Wearing Face Masks in Public, Plus More Coronavirus Items

Wearing those surgical face masks got popular in China after the SARS outbreak in 2002.  So will the same thing happen here because of the coronavirus?

A new survey found over HALF of people are now thinking about it.

  1. The stock market fell about 1,200 points yesterday over worries the virus might cause a global recession.  That’s the biggest one-day point drop in U.S. history.

  1. Pope Francis skippedMass yesterday because of a, quote, “slight [illness].”  So people started speculating he might have it.  He was seen coughing and blowing his nose on Ash Wednesday.  And about 400 cases have been confirmed in Italy.

  1. A woman in Japan who thought she’d beaten the virus three weeks ago just tested positive for it AGAIN.  China says the same thing has happened with 14% of its patients.  So apparently it can appear to go away, then come back.

  1. Some wellness influencers on social media are making things worse by telling people to take a dangerous amount of vitamins to boost their immune system.  Some of the doses they’re recommending have been described as “near lethal.”

  1. A family flying from Quebec City to Paris last week got kicked off a flight after their 21 month old daughter started coughing, and people thought it might be coronavirus.  Apparently she just had a cold.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

Tomorrow is February 29th . . . which we only get about once every four years.  Here are four things you should know about tomorrow’s Leap Day . . .

  1. We need Leap Days because it takes the Earth slightly longer than 365 days to circle the sun.  It actually takes 365 days, five hours, 48 minutes and 45 seconds.

So without Leap Years, we’d be off by about six hours every year.  That doesn’t sound like much, but over 100 years, it adds up to nearly 25 whole days.

  1. It’s not as simple as adding a day every four years.  For a particular year to be a Leap Year, three criteria must be met:  One, the year must be evenly divisible by 4.  Two, if the year can ALSO be evenly divided by 100, it’s NOT a Leap Year.  And three, if the year is evenly divisible by 400 then it IS a Leap Year.

That’s why the year 2000 WAS a Leap Year, since it’s divisible by 400, but 2100 won’t be.

  1. In addition to Leap Days and Leap Years, there’s also a Leap Second. The last one was added on December 31st, 2016, and the next one might be added on December 31st of this year.
  2. Less than 0.07% of the world’s population is estimated to have been born on February 29th . (Or about 4.8 million people in the whole world.). People born during a Leap Year on February 29th are known as “leaplings,” “leapers,” or “leapsters” . . .

GOOD NEWS

There was a story that went viral a couple of weeks ago about a puppy that can’t walk that became best friends with a pigeon that can’t fly.  And the internet went NUTS for them.

Well, the puppy’s name is Lundy, and we’ve got a pretty cool update . . .

After the photos went viral, a company in New Hampshire called Walkin’ Pets heard about it.  And they just donated a custom WHEELCHAIR.

Earlier this week, they delivered it to the rehab center in Rochester, New York that’s been taking care of Lundy.

The founder of Walkin’ Pets says they’ve gotten pretty good at doing custom chairs for animals with special needs.  They’ve even done them for ducks, rabbits, and chickens.

They say he might need a few more weeks to grow into it.  But then he’ll be able to run around and be mobile for the first time in his life.

You Can Win a Picasso Painting in a Charity Raffle for About $100

If you’ve ever wanted to own a Picasso, this might be your best chance.

There’s a Picasso painting called “Nature Morte” that’s currently being raffled off for charity.  It’s a still life that Picasso painted in 1921 of a newspaper and a glass. It’s small . . . just 18 inches by nine inches . . . but it’s still the work of a master.  The painting is valued at around $1.1 million. And for 100 Euros . . . you can be entered for a chance to win it.

All of the proceeds from the raffle are going to the CARE nonprofit, which will provide clean water for 200,000 people in Cameroon, Madagascar, and Morocco. If you want to get in on this, the raffle is at the end of March.

There’s an Extra Workday in 2020 Because It’s a Leap Year . . . Should You Get a Bonus?

We’ve got 29 days this month because it’s a Leap Year.  And the 29th is a Saturday.  But if you’re on salary, you’ll still work an extra day for FREE this year.  Here’s why . . .

Even though the 29th is on a weekend, it throws off the whole calendar.  And the additional day still results in one extra workday in 2020.

In non-Leap Years, six out of seven days of the week happen 52 times, and one happens 53 times.  Like last year, there were 53 Tuesdays.

But in a Leap Year, TWO days occur 53 times.  And both of them happen to be workdays this time around.  We’ll have 53 Wednesdays and 53 Thursdays.

If you’re hourly, it doesn’t make a difference.  But salaried workers are effectively working one extra day UNPAID.

So should they be compensated with some kind of bonus?  A new survey asked 10,000 people, and most of them said YES, they should.

% of us think people on salary should be paid for the additional day of work.  22% said they shouldn’t, and 19% weren’t sure.

28 DAYS HATH FEBRUARY:
Why do all the other months have 30 or 31 days, and February has 28 — 29 in a good year? In the 8th century BC, they used the Calendar of Romulus, a 10-month calendar that kicked the year off in March and ended in December.  January and February didn’t even exist. The problem? At that point, the year was only 304 days long.

Winter was a nameless, monthless period that no one bothered to count. In 713 BC, King Numa Pompilius decided there needed to be a name for the period of time in winter, so he split the calendar into 12 lunar cycles—about 355 days—and introduced January and February.

They were added to the end of the calendar, making February the last month of the year. T

he Romans believed even numbers were unlucky, so Numa tried to make each month contain an odd number of days. But to reach the quota of 355, one month had to have an even number of days. February ended up pulling the short stick, probably because it was the last month. After a few more adjustments over the years, we eventually arrived at a 365-day calendar, but February stayed at 28 days (29 in leap years).

KEITH URBAN RELEASES NEW SINGLE, ANNOUNCES GIG AS ACM AWARDS HOST

Keith Urban is having a big week! Yesterday (Thursday, Feb. 27th) he dropped a new single, was announced as this year’s host of the ACM Awards for the very first time, and also earned an ACM nomination for Male Artist of the Year.

The new song is called “God Whispered Your Name,” and it’s one Keith did not write, although he tells us it most definitely tells his personal story. [“‘God Whispered Your Name’ really spoke to me the very first time I heard it. The opening line – I was so cold and lost/and nothing seemed to ring true – God, I know that place so well. At the end of the day if I’m gonna record a song that I didn’t write, like this one, then it’s gonna be a song that speaks to me really strongly, and ‘God Whispered Your Name’ absolutely spoke to me and tells my journey in such a profound way.”]

Keith’s 2020 also includes 14 concert at Las Vegas’ The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, a European tour this May, and fairs and festivals this summer. The 55th annual ACM Awards will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 5th at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

CARLY PEARCE RETURNS TO OPRY STAGE THIS WEEKEND

Carly Pearce will be returning to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville this weekend. She’s set to perform on Saturday (Feb. 29th) night, along with Bill Anderson, Josh Turner, The Isaacs and others.

Carly made her Opry debut in 2015, and she tells us part of her wardrobe that memorable night was saved especially for the occasion. [“Literally, my biggest dream in life was to play the Opry, and my parents bought me a pair of crystal cowboy boots three years before I made my Opry debut. My mom said — they were a ridiculous amount of money and she was like, ‘I will buy these for you if you will keep them and not put them on your feet until you step on the Grand Ole Opry stage,’ and almost three years to the date I put ’em on and I wore them at my Opry debut.”]

She released her self-titled sophomore album on Valentine’s Day.

JUSTIN MOORE ADMITS TO GETTING DISTRACTED ON STAGE

Justin Moore‘s favorite part of being an artist is getting to perform live for his fans, but he admits that on occasion he gets distracted by little things, like kids, who he says he loves to hand out his guitar picks to, and random thoughts about certain fans at his concerts.

Justin explains: [“You know when you go to a restaurant, you play this game with your husband or wife or girlfriend boyfriend, whatever, sometimes you try to tell what this couple or this family’s story is at the table next to you. I do that in my head on stage. I have to like snap myself back and I’m like, ‘Okay, you’ve gotta focus on what you’re doing.’  You go, ‘Gee I wonder if they just got engaged?’ or, you know, whatever. I find myself doing that on stage, which is kind of a strange thing to do.”]

Justin is currently out on his Late Nights and Longnecks Tour with Tracy Lawrence.
