Alex Trebek says he’s now one of the 18% of people who survive a year with Stage Four pancreatic cancer.  And while that’s good news, he admits that it has not been easy, and there are times he’s thought about giving up.  But he wouldn’t, because it would be a betrayal of everyone supporting him.

The guy who did the billion-dollar rice comparison video last week posted a new video where he shows how much money Jeff Bezos has.  If a single grain of rice is worth $100,000 then it takes 58 POUNDS to show his wealth.

There’s a six-year-old Asian girl named Miumiu who posts videos of herself playing guitar and singing . . . and she’s AMAZING.  One of the clips making the rounds is her version of the Sinatra classic “Fly Me to the Moon”.

In the notes she apologizes for her poor English, but her rendition is incredible.

GOOD NEWS

There’s a 13-year-old kid in England named Cullum Manning who recently started reviewing his favorite books on Instagram.  And he’s been getting bullied because of it.

He started about a week ago.  Each post is a photo of a book, with a quick one-liner on whether he liked it or not.  So for the first “Lord of the Rings” book, he wrote, “Good book.  Read it if [you] like ‘Game of Thrones’.”

Unfortunately, some kids at school ganged up and started trolling him.  So his older sister asked some friends to follow his account, just to encourage him to keep doing it.

And less than a week later, he has more followers than his bullies will EVER have.

His sister was hoping to get 20 friends to follow him, but then it blew up online.  And last we checked, he had over 215,000 FOLLOWERS.

Some big names have reached out to him too.  Caroline Kepnes wrote the books that the Netflix show “You” is based on.  After he reviewed the original book, she reached out to his sister on Twitter and sent him a text.  Which he says was, “really cool.”

A BRIEF HISTORY OF DAYLIGHT-SAVING TIME:
At 2 am Sunday, clocks across North America will ‘spring forward’ one hour. Why do we do this?

✓ The idea of ‘Daylight Saving Time’ was first proposed in 1895 by New Zealand entomologist George Vernon Hudson, and although people were interested, it never caught on.

✓ In 1905, William Willett came up with the same idea in London. Why? He was an avid golfer who hated cutting short his Summer rounds on the links. Again, the idea failed to catch on.

✓ The Germans and their allies were the first to implement Daylight Saving Time as a way of conserving coal during WW1. Britain and many other European countries followed the example.

✓ All Canadian provinces were on DST by the 1970s, except the majority of Saskatchewan, which stays on Central Standard Time year-round.

Here are four other things you should ALSO do this weekend . . .

  1. Change the batteries in your smoke alarm.  It’s a good idea to change out the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors once a year.

  1. Restock your emergency kit.  You should already have a stocked emergency kit at home, but it might be even more important now with coronavirus going around and if you DO, go through it to make sure nothing has expired.

  1. Clean out your fridge, pantry, and medicine cabinet.  This is a good time to de-clutter all your food, medicine, and supplements.

  1. Flip your mattress.  Some mattresses should be flipped twice a year to avoid irregular wear, and it’s easy to remember if you do it the same weekend you change your clocks.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE:
⇒ With coronavirus continuing to spread, the natural human response is to want to do something to protect oneself. That’s why so many people are buying masks. And why so many retailers are making a fortune by selling them. But infection prevention specialist Eli Perencevich says even if there are cases next door to you, not only do you not need a mask, you shouldn’t wear one. Why?

“There’s no evidence that wearing masks on healthy people will protect them.” Additionally: “The coronavirus is transmitted through droplets, not through the air. That means you cannot randomly breathe it in, but it also means the standard surgical mask you see people wearing will not help. Those masks are designed to keep droplets in—not to keep them out—and are intended to keep the wearer from getting others sick.”

⇒ The US surgeon general has asked people to stop stockpiling masks to combat the coronavirus. Surgeon General Jerome Adams tweeted. “Seriously people – STOP BUYING MASKS! They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!”

⇒ Some health experts are saying that the coronavirus may circulate forever as a seasonal endemic pathogen, similar to cold and flu. Amesh Adalja, an infectious disease expert at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security said: “This is going to be with us for some time – it’s endemic in human populations and not going to go away without a vaccine,”

⇒ A survey showed that 38% of Americans wouldn’t buy Corona beer “under any circumstances” because of the coronavirus outbreak. Another 14% said they wouldn’t order a Corona in public.
