Disneyland and Disney World are closing due to the coronavirus.  It’s just the fourth time Disneyland has EVER closed.  The last time was after the September 11th attacks in 2001.  They’ll remain closed until at least next month.

It’s just the fourth time Disneyland has closed since it opened in 1955.  The other three times were:  After the September 11th attacks . . . the Northridge quake in 1994 . . . and when President Kennedy was shot in 1963.

Universal Studios Hollywood will also be closed starting tomorrow.  They’re hoping to reopen on March 28th.

New York City postponed its St. Patrick’s Day parade on Wednesday for the first time in its 258-YEAR history.  And China even shut down access to MOUNT EVEREST yesterday because of the virus.

Here’s a great example of “easier said than done.”  It’s a montage of health experts and advisors warning the public to keep their hands away from their face due to coronavirus . . . and then they absentmindedly touch their face.

It was put together by “The Washington Post” and they ring a bell each time someone in the clip does it.

The newest “Fast & Furious” sequel “F9” has been pushed back almost a YEAR because of the coronavirus.  A few more big premieres that just got delayed include “A Quiet Place Part 2” . . . the live-action “Mulan” remake . . . and the Marvel movie “The New Mutants”.

Howie Mandel showed up to work on the set of “America’s Got Talent” in a full hazmat suit, with gloves, a mask and breathing tube. Mandel, who is a notorious germaphobe, took off his ball cap to pose for photographers outside the studio. And maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea.Ffellow judge Heidi Klum left the set on Tuesday after falling ill. She missed the taping, leaving just three judges for the live show, including Simon Cowell and Sofia Vergara.

“The View” and “Live With Kelly and Ryan” are among the shows set to go audience-free amid the coronavirus outbreak.

“The Price Is Right” is shutting down production for two weeks, with the hope that the coronavirus will have subsided by then.

Here’s What You Should Get at the Grocery Store to Prepare for Coronavirus

If you want to prepare for a potential quarantine or lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic, here’s a good guide on how to prepare and what you should pick up at the grocery store.

Basically, you want to treat each trip to the grocery store as if it would need to last you two to four weeks.  Because if you get put into a two-week quarantine, it will be too late to stock up.  But that doesn’t mean you need to go overboard . . .

  1. Take inventory of what you already have.  Chances are you might already have enough food stashed in your fridge and pantry to get you through a couple weeks.

But if your cupboards are looking skim, some good basics are rice, pasta, oats, beans, and canned vegetables.  They’re versatile AND they have a long shelf life.

  1. Plan meals with common ingredients.  Take your ingredients with a long shelf life like rice, pasta, or beans, and then mix in whatever fresh meat and vegetables you have available.

So, for example, if you cook a whole chicken and serve it with rice one night, you can use the carcass to make chicken broth and a soup the next day.

  1. Use your freezer.  The biggest issue you’ll run into when stocking up is keeping fruits and vegetables fresh.  Apples, oranges, and pears are fruits that can last a while . . . and for veggies, go for onions, potatoes, squash, and carrots.

For everything else, there’s the frozen food aisle.  Things like frozen broccoli, spinach, and berries are good to have on-hand.  And most meats can be easily defrosted too.

  1. Skip the junk food.  Especially if you have kids in the house.  Stuff that’s easy to grab, like chips, cookies, and granola bars will be the first thing you snack on if you get stuck at home for two weeks.  And even though it’s convenient, there’s not much nutritional value.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

✓ There’s a Norse legend that has 12 gods sitting down to a banquet when the 13th (uninvited) god, Loki, shows up. He sets off a chain of events that leads to a slew of natural disasters.

✓ There were 13 people at the Last Supper. It’s said that Judas Iscariot was the 13th to take his place at the table.

✓ Traditionally there used to be 13 steps leading up to a hangman’s gallows. There’s also a legend that a hangman’s noose traditionally contained 13 turns.

✓ Kids officially become teenagers at the age of 13 … and we all know that’s a scary phase.

GOOD NEWS

The University of South Carolina has a Wendy’s on campus.  And one of its employees has been going through tough times.

Malcolm Coleman has worked in the food industry for over 15 years.  About a year ago, he and his mom lost their house to an electrical fire.  And even worse, it happened on his birthday.

The house is still standing, but they can’t live there.  Insurance didn’t cover the damages, and they can’t afford to fix it.  So they’ve both been couch-surfing with friends and family for over a year. Malcolm’s very popular with students though.  He remembers their names, and he’s somehow managed to keep a smile on his face through it all.

So when a student named Robert Caldaroni recently found out about the fire, he wanted to help. Exactly one month ago today, he and his frat brothers started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the repairs.  And it’s now up over 40 GRAND. They think it’ll cost about $75,000, so they’re still raising money.  ______________________________________________________________________________

Is Washing with Soap Really That Much Better Than Just Water?

Hand-washing has been a hot topic.  So here’s a question:  Do you really NEED soap?  And does washing with just water even do anything?

The answer is, it’s better than nothing.  But most people don’t really understand the science behind how soap works.  Here’s why it’s so much better than just water.

There are two essential ingredients in most soap:  Vegetable or animal fat.  And lye, also known as sodium hydroxide.

Instead of killing germs, soap removes them from your hands.  And it’s VERY good at it.

That’s because germs tend to stick to the oil and grease on our skin.  And water alone won’t get rid of that oil, because they don’t mix.  But soap likes BOTH oil and water.

Soap molecules have one end that wants to bind with water, and another end that wants to bind with oil.  So they can get in between and bind with both at the same time.

In other words, soap sticks to the oil molecules where all the germs are, AND allows the water to wash them off.  Which is why it really is worth the extra few seconds to use soap, because it does a much better job.

CLEAN YOUR SCREEN:
In response to the coronavirus outbreak, Apple has updated its iPhone cleaning guidelines.

Up until now, the company has always recommended that users stick to using a soft, slightly damp microfiber cloth to clean the screens of its products.

Apple changed its tune this week after the Centers for Disease Control said that the coronavirus (which can live on your device for up to 9 days!) can be removed from hard surfaces to minimize the risk of infection, and to do so, it recommends cleaning keyboards and touchscreens with wipes or sprays containing at least 70% alcohol.

Apple’s new instructions seem to agree, specifying that you should use the same “70% isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes…gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of your Apple product, such as the display, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces. Don’t use bleach.

Avoid getting moisture in any opening, and don’t submerge your Apple product in any cleaning agents.”

COUNTRY SHOWS

KENNY CHESNEY announced that he’s postponing several dates at the start of his Chillaxification Tour due to the coronavirus.  In a statement he said, quote, “In times of uncertainty, I won’t take chances with those I love.”

Shows are being rescheduled for next year, but refunds are also available.

BLAKE SHELTON postponed last night’s show, and the other four dates of his Friends and Heroes Tour because of COVID-19.  Previously purchased tickets will be honored at the “to-be-announced rescheduled dates” next year.  Or, you can get refunds at the point of purchase.  This includes his show March 21st at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit

CHRIS STAPLETON decided to reschedule four March shows.  One was last night, and the other three are March 14th in Arlington, Texas . . . March 20th in Biloxi, Mississippi . . . and March 21st in Birmingham, Alabama.  Head over to ChrisStapleton dot com for details.

DAN + SHAY made a “collective decision” with their team and health officials to postpone the spring leg of “The Arena Tour.”  If you’ve already purchased a ticket it WILL be honored at the rescheduled date.

And in case you didn’t hear, Dan + Shay said they won’t be performing at the Stagecoach Festival in the fall.  That’s because the rescheduled Stagecoach date conflicts with their tour

INGRID ANDRESS ‘PUMPED’ TO EXPERIENCE DAN + SHAY’S NEXT CHAPTER

Ingrid Andress just wrapped up her first weekend of opening Dan + Shay‘s (The Arena) Tour with three sold-out shows in Nashville and Columbus, OH. Ingrid has known Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney for a while now, including having written with Dan a few times.

She tells us exclusively that getting to be part of this career-changing tour with Dan + Shay is a dream gig. [“Just seeing their career explode the way it has within the past year has been so cool to watch, and I’m so pumped for them and just happy to experience this next chapter with them cause I feel like they’ve been grinding for so long and like they’re such pros, and Shay’s hilarious, and I don’t know . . . just hanging out with them will be fun. They’re a good hang, and I love The Band Camino, so I feel like it’s gonna be like a fun almost like family style hang where we’re all genuinely fans of each other’s music and each other’s people, so I think that’ll be fun.”]

The Dan + Shay (The Arena) Tour featuring The Band Camino and Ingrid rolls on to Philadelphia, PA; Charlottesville, VA; and Greenville, SC later this week.

Ingrid climbs into the Top 10 on the Mediabase chart with her debut single, “More Hearts Than Mine.”

WORKING OUT WITH TIM MCGRAW

Tim McGraw was talking about his Here on Earth Tour, which kicks off in July.  Midland and Ingrid Andress are the openers . . . and he’s already laying the groundwork for Ingrid to join him and the crew when they do those crazy Crossfit workouts.

Sports . . . All Sports . . . Have Been Shut Down Indefinitely

On Wednesday, the NBA shocked everyone by suspending their SEASON a player with the Utah Jazz tested positive, and yesterday, basically every other active sports league followed suit.

To help hourly employees at the American Airlines Center, Mark Cuban said he’s paying them as if they worked for the next four would-have-been games, which will get them through the end of the month.

  1. THE NHL:  Yesterday morning, the NHL suspended its season immediately . . . saying that the “goal” is to resume play as soon as it’s “appropriate and prudent.”

They also pointed out that their leagues share the same facilities and locker rooms as the NBA and other sports. There have been two seasons in NHL history where the Stanley Cup was not awarded:  In 1919 because of the Spanish flu and in 2005 because of a lockout.

  1. MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL:  Opening Day was originally scheduled for March 26th, but that isn’t happening.  For now, MLB has pushed back the start of the season “at least two weeks,” but it could be extended further. Some reports are saying 30 days.

The Major Leagues haven’t had a disruption like this since 1995, following a seven-month strike.

  1. THE NCAA:  This week, the NCAA announced that its annual March Madness tournament would continue without fans.  But now, there won’t be players either.

The NCAA canceled its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments. The NCAA has canceled championships in every spring sport, which includes hockey, baseball, and lacrosse . . . again, that’s CANCELED, not postponed.

The NCAA men’s basketball tournament had been played every year since 1939.

  1. THE NFL:  Obviously, football is a long way off, but the NFL is a year-round business, so there has been some disruption . . .  The league says they’re not delaying the start of the season . . . for now at least . . . but they have canceled some annual meetings.

  1. MLS:  For now, Major League Soccer has suspended its season for 30 days

  1. GOLF:  The PGA Tour was planning on staging events without spectators in the coming weeks, but late last night, they canceled the Players’ Championship, as well as their next three events.

There are still a FEW leagues that haven’t suspended all events . . .

  1. NASCAR:  They are moving ahead with scheduled races at Atlanta and Homestead, but no fans will be permitted to attend.

  1. UFC:  Supposedly, they’ll put on an event on Saturday in Brazil in an empty arena.  UFC also has major events scheduled for the next three weekends.
