He charted more than 30 singles, and won an ACM Award for his work as part of George Jones’ Vocal Event of the Year, “I Don’t Need Your Rockin’ Chair,” and he won a Grammy Award for his 1998 collaboration with Marty Stuart on “Same Old Train.”

A Chatham man who tested positive for COVID-19 said this virus is no joke and is focusing on getting better. Luke Davidson, wrote on Facebook he was advised by CK Public Health on Saturday that his test came back positive. Davidson said he continues to improve and get better. Davidson realized he might have COVID-19 when he read a post of Rudy Gobert (the first NBA player who tested positive for COVID-19) mentioning he lost his sense of smell and taste. Davidson said his fever finally broke on Friday. He added the doctors and nurses at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance are amazing and have been “nothing but good” to him.

The Ontario government is enacting a new emergency order by limiting social gatherings to a maximum of five people, with a few exceptions. The order does not apply to private households with five people or more, child care centres supporting frontline workers — provided that the number of people at each centre doesn’t exceed 50. Funerals with up to 10 people are allowed to take place. This recently approved order replaces the previous emergency order that didn’t allow gatherings of 50 people or more.

ENTERTAINMENT

In a world filled with a seemingly never ending stream of bad news about reality, Netflix has offered up some good news about its reality-television programming: The streaming service has renewed “Love Is Blind”, “The Circle”, “Rhythm + Flow” and ordered new series “Sparking Joy With Marie Kondo.” Though much like every other TV series, none of these shows are currently in production due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic, online casting and auditions are open for the upcoming seasons. They’re expected to launch in 2021.

TODAY IS……………….

  • “Doctors Day”, an observance dating back to 1933 that commemorates the first use of anesthetic during surgery by Dr Crawford W Long in 1842. He got the idea by observing party-goers high on nitrous oxide and sulfuric ether.

  • “Pencil Day”, observed on the anniversary of the ‘Pencil with Attached Eraser’ being patented 162 years ago (1858) by Hyman Lipman.

COVID UPDATES

A church in Cincinnati raised $230,000 to cover babysitting and childcare costs for healthcare workers who are on the front lines.

A principal in Traverse City, Michigan couldn’t do announcements the normal way.  So she went to a fast food drive-thru . . . just to tell a teenager who works there that she’s the valedictorian of her class.

The Eiffel Tower has been closed to tourists for a few weeks now.  But it’s lit up at night . . . and SPARKLES for ten minutes every evening to honor healthcare workers.

There are more and more ways to keep your kids busy and entertained.  For example, an art studio in Ohio called McHarper Manor is now offering free online art classes to kids all over the world.

A hotel in Switzerland has launched a “luxury quarantine package” You can get things like coronavirus testing for $500 and around-the-clock nurse care for $4,800-a-day.

The cast of the 2011 movie “Contagion” made educational coronavirus PSA’s.

Some cops in San Diego did a welfare check on a 95-year-old guy who lives alone, and he was running low on stuff.  So the cops went shopping for him, and now the video is going viral.

Two YouTubers named Justin Stuart and Andrew Scites bought a ton of toilet paper in October for a video where they made a giant fort with it.  Now they’ve posted a follow-up video after giving it all away to random people on the street.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backwards.

  1. The longest traffic light at a regular intersection in the U.S. is in West Milford, New Jersey.  It stays red for five minutes and 33 seconds.

  1. The first color cartoon on TV was “Colonel Bleep” in 1957.  It was about an alien who lived on a fictional island on Earth.

  1. The “para” in “Paralympics” doesn’t come from the words paralyzed or paraplegic.  It comes from the Greek word “para,” which means “beside,” because the Paralympics stand side-by-side with the Olympics.

GOOD NEWS

Here’s an easy way to do something nice.

There’s a new trend called “bear hunts”, where you put a teddy bear in your window so kids can walk by and count how many they find.  It isn’t clear exactly where the trend started, but it’s gained momentum over the past few days.

The global hunt appears to have been inspired by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury’s 1989 children’s book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, with many using the hashtag  Going on a Bear Hunt.

In the popular story, a group of brave children surmount numerous obstacles in a quest to “catch a big one” on a beautiful day.

Is the Coronavirus Going to Bring the World Closer Together or Further Apart?

This is the first time in most of our lifetimes that the entire world is all facing the same imminent threat.

On one hand, we’re all in this together . . . but on the other hand, we’re also shutting down our borders and stopping international travel.

So one day, when this is finally over, do you think it’s going to bring the world closer together . . . or push us further apart?

According to a new survey, people are twice as likely to say this shared experience is going to bring the world together.  35% of people say this will bring us closer . . . and 17% say it will push us further apart.

35% say it won’t make a difference, and the rest aren’t sure.

Women are more likely than men to say it will bring us closer . . . men are more likely to say it will push us apart.  Also, young people are much more likely to say it will bring us together . . . older people believe it won’t make a difference.

VETERINARIANS SHARE THEIR BEST ADVICE FOR KEEPING PETS HAPPY

The novel coronavirus pandemic has many people spending a lot more time at home, and many are home with their pets.

Though it could seem like the best thing ever for your pet, the whole social distancing thing might leave your animals feeling bored, restless, confused, and unsettled. Travis Arndt, veterinarian, says that pets tend to like structure and are happiest when they have a constant schedule. He adds, “Create specific playtimes, like before you start your work-from-home day, during your lunch break, or after you’ve signed off for the day. Stick to that schedule as best you can.”

He also says to be sure to provide toys that will “stimulate your pet’s mind, like those that can be stuffed with treats or squeaky toys.” Another important tip: stick to your pet’s normal feeding times, even if you have the opportunity to feed them more frequently throughout the day.

Jimmy Fallon’s 5-year-old daughter, Frances, is still making it a challenge for him to work from home.  On Friday, he tried to do his weekly “Thank-you notes” segment, but she was more interested in playing a “booing” sound effect instead of the theme music.  She then got bored and left to go play drums.  (From “The Tonight Show” on Friday, March 27, 2020)

  1. Free Hallmark cards, being cooped up in the house, watching too much TV, and men are less likely to follow social distancing.  (From Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel’s at home shows on Friday, March 27, 2020)

Quarantine or not, we still need our frothy coffee . . . which is why this three-ingredient creamy coffee drink has gone viral.  The recipe is from South Korea and it’s surprisingly easy to make.  All you need is instant coffee, sugar, and water.

You put an equal amount of each into a bowl and then whip it together with an electric hand mixer until it’s creamy enough to pour on top of some milk.  You can also mix it by hand, although it takes longer.

JON PARDI ON CANCELLING SHOWS

Jon Pardi feels terrible that he had to cancel shows because of COVID-19.  Concerts are something we all used to take for granted, and suddenly they’re gone.

But he can’t wait for things to go back to normal because he knows the crowds will go crazy.
