On Today’s Show
April 9, 2020 9:35 am➢ Apparently, conspiracy theorists in the U.K. have started setting cell phone towers on fire, because they think COVID-19 is caused by 5G networks. England’s medical director talked about it the other day and said it could prevent first responders from doing their job.
➢ In a Lebanese town under lockdown due to the novel coronavirus, three teens came up with a way to keep the pandemic from putting a damper on Mother’s Day, which is celebrated there in March. The trio worked together to offer a service where for $6-$13US depending on location, they would send a red rose to surprised Moms – via drone. Customers were alerted via text to bring their family out to the balcony to receive the flower, which arrived in a ring hanging under the aircraft. And in addition to cheering up mothers in lockdown, the service had a charitable angle as well. All proceeds from the drone project were donated to the Red Cross.
➢ You apparently shouldn’t use any self-tanner if its past its expiration date. A 35-year-old from the U.K. says she slapped on a few layers of fake tan while she was home self-isolating. But she awoke the next morning to find she was completely green from head to toe. Jenni says she was forced to repeatedly shower using exfoliant to try and get rid of her green glow. She says it took several days to come off, and that she had only applied it in the first place due to the on-going novel coronavirus pandemic as she wanted to do something that “makes you feel great.”
➢ Australian triathlete Mirinda Carfrae recently lost her chance at victory in the inaugural Ironman VR Pro Challenge women’s race, which she was competing in from her home in Colorado when her husband and fellow triathlete, Tim O’Donnell, accidentally tripped over the power cord to her smart bike. Carfrae was in second place on the leaderboard before her husband’s clumsy intervention, which disconnected her from the race. She was competing against three other international stars in the 56-mile bike leg. Despite continuing to pedal and finishing the race, her results could only be recorded as unofficial.
In an Instagram story, the three-time world Ironman champ did her best to find the funny side, explaining that her husband had decided to bring my trophies in here as motivation, and when he walked around the back, he kicked out the. For her husband’s race next weekend, she vowed not to seek revenge.
➢ Fitness legends Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons are bringing back their iconic exercise routines of the ’80s to help you break a sweat while quarantined. As part of her “Fire Drill Fridays” initiative, Fonda finally joined TikTok, making her debut on the app in a long-sleeved red bodysuit. While she hopes fans will reacquaint themselves with her signature Jane Fonda Workout, she’s also encouraging them to make necessary changes to help save the planet.

COVID UPDATES……………..
A restaurant chain in Florida called Datz has been selling off their collection of rare alcohol to keep paying their employees. And they got a big boost the other day. Their most expensive bottle was a 25-year-old bourbon they were trying to sell for $20,000. Instead, an anonymous customer DOUBLED it, and gave them 40 grand.
A 16 year old pilot in Virginia convinced his dad to turn their flying lessons into humanitarian missions. They started something called “Operation SOS” that stands for “Supplies Over Skies.” And they’re delivering masks and gloves to hospitals all across the state.
A South African couple only planned to stay for six days at a resort on their honeymoon and then a pandemic broke out. Which meant they were stranded at a Maldives resort, all alone with the staff, trapped in paradise. They arrived March 22 amid the coronavirus outbreak, and were told that South Africa’s airports were closing. But it was impossible to reach the local airport in time. The only other guests slipped out last week, so Raul and Olivia had the beach, the sun, the drinks, the snorkeling, all to themselves, with staff hovering close enough to top up drinks after every sip. Finally, on Sunday, they were relocated to another five-star resort where travelers are being housed until flight permissions are worked out.
A community in Florida used sidewalk chalk to create a life-sized Candy Land game for kids to play when they go on walks.
Jerry and Beverley Lindell live near Minneapolis. They’ve been married 63 years. And until last month, they’d never spent more than a day or two apart. Jerry was rehabbing at a nursing home when the virus hit, and had to stay in quarantine for a while. But late last month, he got released . . . just in time to surprise Beverley at home on her 84th BIRTHDAY. He even showed up with flowers.

GOOD NEWS
Organizers behind an initiative that ensures no child within Chatham-Kent goes without a Christmas, are now working to make sure children are able to celebrate Easter during this unprecedented time.
Tim Mifflin, director of the Chatham Goodfellows, said the board unanimously voted over the weekend to do what they could to provide some Easter treats to families in need during the COVID-19 crisis.
Mifflin said Mark Lush, the manager of Giant Tiger on Grand Avenue West in Chatham — who partners with the Goodfellows at Christmas — made a $300 donation towards the cause. On Monday afternoon, the Goodfellows picked up “well over $2,000” worth of chocolate bunnies and Peeps.
The treats were then delivered to FreeHelp CK, the WISH Centre, and Outreach for Hunger.
Families in need who are hoping to secure some Easter treats for their children are encouraged to contact one of three listed organizations. However, due to social distancing measures, residents cannot show up to the location to register and must call ahead.
With social gatherings of more than five people being banned and social distancing measures in place, Easter in Chatham-Kent will look a little different. But Mifflin said they’re hopeful these treats will bring some sense of joy to children in the area.
For residents who don’t need Easter candy but do need food, Mifflin said the three organizations they have partnered with are taking calls. The Outreach for Hunger location in Chatham will be open on select days with modified hours during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BANANA BREAD SUPER POPULAR AMID CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC
The coronavirus pandemic is causing people to make more food at home, and one item that is seeing a real surge in popularity is banana bread.
The appeal seems to be that making banana bread is simple, and it also might help you avoid wasting those bananas you picked up on one of your runs to the grocery store for “essentials.”
Delish suggests there’s something very comforting about making something that tastes and smells nice, distracts you for a bit, but also is hard to mess up—even if the end result isn’t some beautiful pastry for your Instagram feed. At the time of this writing there were over 1.2 million Instagram posts using #bananabread.

Social Distancing Doesn’t Have to Ruin Your Weekend . . .
If you’re stuck at home trying to help prevent the spread of coronavirus, here are 5 things you can do with your extra time this weekend . . .
- If you’re a foodie . . . Get takeout from a restaurant you’ve been wanting to try. Make a recipe you’ve had bookmarked forever. Or look for new recipes to make once things settle down.
- If you’re a sports fan . . . Read up on the history of your favorite sport or team, so when they start playing again, you’ll have an even greater appreciation for it. Revisit an old game, like on TV or YouTube. Or watch a sports documentary.
- If you’re into culture . . . Take a virtual museum tour, like the ones on Googles Arts & Culture page. Read books or watch movies you never had time for before. Or try learning a new language.
- If you’re an extrovert . . . Host a virtual happy hour with your friends. Break out board games and puzzles to do with your family. Or try something artsy, like painting or an adult coloring book.

MODERN FAMILY ENDS
The series finale of “Modern Family” aired last night, and the creators say there’s already talk of a spin-off about Mitch and Cam and their new life. But don’t get too excited yet. It’s WAY early in the process. They’re basically just kicking around the idea right now. Here’s the final scene.

DIGITAL ‘FARM AID’ EVENT
Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, and Dave Matthews will perform on Saturday (April 11th) at 8 pm ET at the digital event and fundraiser, At Home with Farm Aid. The streaming show — which will also feature performances by Nelson’s sons Lukas and Micah — will feature the artists all performing at their respective homes. The show will air on AXS TV and online at FarmAid.org. The performances are taking place to show “support and solidarity for family farmers and ranchers.”
Willie Nelson said in the event’s announcement: “Times of crisis give us each an opportunity to make a difference, in big ways and in small”
Farm Aid began in 1985 with the aim of providing assistance to poor and needy families in rural farming communities. John Mellencamp told us the success of the concert festival can be found in the fact that show is ever evolving: [“It is a continuous effort. I think that Willie has shown, and the organization has shown is that they’re here for the long haul, and it’s just not a media stunt of any kind, or a thing for a corporation to flex their muscles for a day.”]
BLAKE SHELTON, GWEN STEFANI MAKE VIRTUAL APPEARANCE ON ‘JIMMY FALLON’
Blake Shelton and Jimmy Fallon will team up virtually on Monday (April 13th) for The Tonight Show: At Home Edition. The show will also feature a special performance from Blake and Gwen Stefani of their Top Five and climbing duet “Nobody But You.”
Blake said, “I’m damn sure that this ‘at-home’ version of The Tonight Show will just be another disaster, but it’s always fun to be with Jimmy, and I’m glad Gwen and I get the chance to sing our song!”
Blake and Gwen performed “Nobody But You” last weekend on CBS’ ACM Presents: Our Country special, which will re-air this Saturday (April 11th) at 8 p.m. ET
Who Tied Up Brad Paisley and Put Duct Tape Over His Mouth?
BRAD PAISLEY and his wife KIMBERLY WILLIAMS-PAISLEY seem to have a pretty solid marriage, and this may be why. When he gets on her nerves, she ties him up and puts duct tape over his mouth.
Well, at least she did the other day. She posted a “day 26 of quarantine” video where she says things have been hard, but she finally turned a corner.
She walks through the house showing their inventory. Quote, “Look, I’ve got soap, I’ve got fresh towels, I have hand sanitizer, there’s a little wine left in my glass. Dogs have been fed, we got extra supplies we need.”
When she gets to the pantry she takes a quick shot of Brad who’s tied-up and on the floor. There’s duct tape over his mouth, and he’s moaning like a hostage.
Then she points the camera back at herself and says, quote, “Yeah, I think I finally figured it out. So stay home everybody. Do what you need to do to get through this.”
