BUBBA WALLACE got a HUGE show of support before the Geico 500 yesterday at Talladega, when dozens of drivers and their crews walked behind as his #43 car was pushed to the starting line. 82-year-old team owner RICHARD PETTY also joined the procession to support his driver.

Meanwhile, NASCAR is going all-in on finding out who’s responsible for the noose.  They’re even working with the FBI . . . and whoever did it will be banned FOR LIFE.

(Bubba came in 14th place, by the way.  Ryan Blaney won.)

➢ People are buying disposable urinals, so they don’t have to rely on public restrooms.  Searches for something called “Travel John Disposable Urinal Bags” have skyrocketed.

➢ A 19-year-old in Calif. was napping in a chair at her backyard when a black bear suddenly attacked her, scratching at her arms and legs and biting her. According to a California Fish and Wildlife captain, the unidentified teen grabbed her laptop and smacked the bear with it. “She managed to break free of the bear enough to run back inside,” the CFAW captain, Patrick Foy, tells the outlet, which verified that the teen sustained minor injuries to her arms and legs, none of which are life-threatening.

➢ Remember Blue Betty? She was the rare (one in a million!) cotton-candy blue lobster who showed up at a Maine crab shack last year? Now, thanks to a Lobster & Clam Bar in Massachusetts, we have learned that lobsters can also be orange.

Orange lobsters are even rarer than blue lobsters: scientists estimate that they’re a one-in-30-million occurrence. They received the orange lobster in its regular delivery from its lobster wholesaler. This is the second time in two years the restaurant has found a rare lobster; last year, it got a blue lobster, which it donated to the St. Louis Aquarium in honor of the St. Louis Blues NHL championship. The orange lobster, as yet unnamed, will also be donated to an aquarium to live out the rest of its days.

➢ Actor-comedian D.L. Hughley, who collapsed in the middle of his set at a Nashville comedy club, has announced that he tested positive for the coronavirus. On Saturday, Hughley posted a video on Twitter in which he told his fans that he was treated for exhaustion and dehydration afterward, then says: “I also tested positive for COVID-19, which blew me away. I was what they call asymptomatic. I didn’t have any symptoms.”

TODAY IS……………….

  • “Let It Go Day”, a day to release pent-up emotions. Whatever is bugging you, let it go!
  • “Typewriting Day”, a celebration of the anniversary of the granting of a patent to American inventor Christopher Latham Sholes in 1868.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. “Old person smell” is real.  There’s a chemical called 2-Nonenal that’s created by other chemicals in the body breaking down over time.  Old people secrete 2-Nonenal, which produces their smell.

  1. Sour Patch Kids were created in Canada in the 1970s.  They were called Mars Men and they were designed to look like aliens.

  1. Michael Phelpsdoesn’t just hold a bunch of swimming world records . . . he has a GOLF one too.  He holds the world record for the longest televised GOLF PUTT.  He nailed a 159-foot putt for eagle on live TV during a celebrity tournament in 2012.

  1. There have only been five times since 1994 where an NFL team punted on 3rd down . . . and Bill Belichickof the New England Patriots was the coach in all five cases.

GOOD NEWS

Wouldn’t it be great if this became a trend?  A lawyer in New Zealand gave all 14 of her employees an extra $1,000, and told them to take a weekend trip somewhere.  All she asked was that they spend ALL of it at small businesses.

Earlier this month, a family in Oklahoma camped out in front of an animal shelter for 27 hours, just to adopt a dog with a heart-shaped patch of hair on its chest.

A photo of the dog went viral, and that’s how they saw it.

THE LIGHTS ARE ON…
Daytime running lights on vehicles have proven to be an important safety feature in many countries. But there is one problem. When you jump in your car after dark, because the low-power lights come on automatically, we sometimes forget to turn on the full headlights, and head down the road with no taillights on. Earlier this year, Canada’s Minister of Transport has announced new rules to make incidences of “phantom vehicles” a thing of the past. Beginning in September 2021, car manufacturers must do one of these three things with all new vehicles sold in Canada:

  • Have daytime running lights AND taillights come on whenever the instrument panel is illuminated and the vehicle is in operation.
    • Automatically turn on the headlights, taillights and side markers in low-light conditions.
    • Keep the instrument panel dark unless the full headlights are turned on.

When driving using your turn signals is really important, but did you ever wonder how much it costs you to use them? A YouTube channel investigated, and found while activating a blinker, a driver will use 70 watts per hour. On average, the driver will activate their turn signal for about five seconds at a time, using a total of 0.08 watts in total.

What does that mean? It means the engine must burn 0.00005 liters of gasoline to produce 0.08 watts of electrical energy for the turn signals to operate. So that works out to about 50 cents a yearto use your turn signals- but obviously this varies by how much you usually pay for gas where you live, and by how much you use your turn signals– but the take-home message here is that using them doesn’t break the bank.

It’s National Hydration Day! Do You Still Drink Tap Water?

It’s National Hydration Day, when you’re supposed to remind yourself to drink more water.  Especially now that summer’s here.

A recent survey asked people about their water-drinking habits, and what KIND of water they normally drink at home.

So are you a bottled water fan?  Or do you still trust the free stuff you get from your tap?

Well, filtered water is now the most popular option.  Like from a fridge dispenser or a Brita.  And tap water is our LEAST favorite.

37% of people said they normally drink filtered water at home . . . 31% drink bottled water most of the time . . . just 29% go for tap water . . . and 3% didn’t answer.

Women were much more likely to say bottled water is the best option . . . 38% compared to 23% of men.  And men are more likely to drink it from the tap.

How Long Has It Been Since You’ve Hugged Someone You Don’t Live With?

Have you hugged anyone you don’t live with since the whole coronavirus thing started?

According to a new survey, about half of us have, and half of us haven’t . . .

47% say they haven’t hugged someone other than family or roommates in at least three months.  That includes 9% of people who NEVER hug anyone, even before COVID-19 was a thing.

23% have hugged someone in the last week . . . 8% said one to two weeks ago . . . 7% said three to four weeks . . . and 6% said a month or two.  (Another 9% weren’t sure how long it’s been.)

Older people appear to be more open to hugging right now, even though they’re at a higher risk when it comes to the virus.

A quarter of people over 55 have hugged someone in the last week, compared to 18% of adults between 18 and 24.

Baseball Is Coming Back! (Maybe)

Major League Baseball is officially coming back.  Maybe?

It’s complicated, but it boils down to this:  The owners and the players were NOT able to come to a new agreement to spice up a shortened season . . . so the owners voted to proceed based on an agreement between the league and the Players Association from back in March.

So the owners are forcing the players back onto the field . . . all the creative stuff is being thrown out . . . and they’re doing a simple, shortened season with the players getting a prorated salary.

They want the players to report to Spring Training 2.0 by July 1st . . . with the season beginning in late July.  There will be about 60 games, which means the players would earn around 37% of their salaries, assuming that the shortened schedule is completed.

The only way the season won’t happen is if the players strike, which is unlikely . . . OR if the virus ramps up again. There are also a few other hurdles that need to be cleared . . . like the players signing off on a health-and-safety protocol for COVID-19.

CARLY PEARCE, MICHAEL RAY DIVORCING AFTER EIGHT MONTHS OF MARRIAGE

Carly Pearce has filed for divorce from Michael Ray after just eight months of marriage. She reportedly filed the paperwork on Friday (June 19th). Carly and Michael went public with their romance in June of 2018. In December of that year they got engaged, and they tied the knot at a farm near Nashville in front of a small group of family and friends on October 6, 2019.

A source told People.com of Carly, “This was a hard decision. It wasn’t something she wanted to have to do. This hasn’t been a quarantine realization — it was a last resort.”

The two were last spotted together on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry on June 6th where fellow performer Steve Wariner sat between them.

Fans have been swirling about trouble within the relationship for the last several weeks as they both quit posting and commenting about each other on social media. Neither Carly nor Michael made any statement at press time.

SCOTTY McCREERY WROTE ‘IN BETWEEN’ DURING A DIFFERENT CHAPTER IN LIFE

Scotty McCreery wrote his current hit, “In Between,” back in 2015 just days after writing his former chart-topper, “Five More Minutes.” At the time, Scotty was still in college, finishing up more than two years at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC and dating his now-wife, Gabi (guh-bee).

[“The song was just, when we were talking that day, it was kind of who I was as a person at that time. The one major thing that’s changed since we wrote it was the line ‘I’m a far cry from being a one night stand, but I ain’t ready for a ring on my hand,’ and it made a lot of sense in 2015 (but it’s) a little different now. I love this ring on my hand, but I feel like it didn’t lose, because of that one line, the song didn’t lose its credibility or kind of what it means to me. We almost changed it before we went it out to radio but we decided against it.”]

“In Between” is the third single from Scotty’s 2018 album, Seasons Change.

KEITH URBAN FOUND ‘GOD WHISPERED YOUR NAME’ TO BE A GREAT FIT

Keith Urban is making his way toward the top of the country charts with his latest single, “God Whispered Your Name.” Keith didn’t write the song, but he tells us that when he connects with something that he feels like he wishes he wrote, he knows it’s the perfect fit. [“It’s just the song. The song is everything, and it either feels like something that works for me or doesn’t. Because a lot of times I can love a song and go into the studio and cut it and work and work on it, and I can’t get it to fit, you know? It’s so frustrating sometimes. It’s like seeing a great jacket in a store and you put it on and you go, ‘Is it me?’ And your friends are like, ‘Not really. (laughs) Then you buy it anyway and then you never wear it. I think if you’re a writer and you want to cut a song you didn’t write, it’d be one you’d wished you’d written.”]

“God Whispered Your Name” will be included on Keith’s upcoming studio album,

The Speed Of Now Part 1, which will be released on September 18th.
