➢ Major League Baseball issued a 60-game schedule which will start on July 23rd or 24th.

Changes for the season include the designated hitter in National League games, and extra innings will start with a runner on second base. Players will start reporting to resume training on July 1st.

MLB’s Philadelphia Phillies said two more players and two more staff numbers have tested positive, for a total of 12 people in the organization.

Three players on MLB’s Colorado Rockies have tested positive, according to The Denver Post.

➢ The FBI has ended its investigation into the NOOSE that was found in NASCAR driver BUBBA WALLACE’s garage stall at Talladega.

They concluded that “no federal crime was committed,” because they found video proving that the noose was in the garage as early as October of LAST year . . . and that the garage was only assigned to Bubba last week.

So, it wasn’t a hate crime targeted at Bubba, but it STILL isn’t a great look for NASCAR.  They say they’re keeping the investigation open on their end to figure out WHY the noose was there.

Last night on CNN, Bubba said he’s, very upset that people are suggesting the whole thing was a hoax and he was involved.

➢ It seems like couriers RARELY pay attention to the “additional instructions” on our shipments . . . but this Amazon driver did, and it was amazing.

A woman named Lynn Staffieri said that her son was being silly, and in the “additional instructions” section, he said, quote, “Knock on the door three times and scream ‘abracadabra’ as loud as you can and run super fast away.”

Well, the driver showed up . . . and she ACTUALLY DID IT.  It was caught on their Nest cam.

➢ Workers at the Norwich Foodbank in England were “very surprised” when they received a donated tin of Sainsbury’s fish that had a best-by date of April 1987. They posted about the donation on Twitter, writing, “33 year out of date fish anyone…?! Please check dates before you donate.” The BBC reports that Sainsbury’s, a major grocer and retailer in the U.K. has requested to keep the anchovies for their archives.

➢ The world’s most popular fruit is fighting its own pandemic: A fungus called Tropical Race 4, recently resurfaced and is ravaging banana fields in more than 20 countries. Possible solutions include creating a genetically modified variety as well as a vaccine. Right now, all that can be done is to quarantine infected farms, enforce sanitation measures, and prevent the movement of plants between growers – the banana equivalent of hand-washing and social distancing.

BABY BOOM

The expected COVID baby boom just isn’t going to happen. In fact, according to US economists, we can expect to see declining birth rates next year.

A Report by Brookings Institution researchers predicts that there could be 300,000-500,000 fewer babies born in the US next year.

They looked at birth rates from the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918 and the recession of 2009 and found that after both events, birth rates tanked. In the case of the recession, job losses led to higher unemployment levels, and people were more likely to put off or decide against having kids.

Considering the world is dealing with both a recession and a pandemic with no certain end in sight, the experts suggest that lower birth rates could be long lasting.

Studies done in Canada and Europe also recently came to the same conclusion.

GOOD NEWS

A couple in Springfield, Missouri adopted a one-year-old cat named Cheese during the pandemic.  And it got stuck up in a tree this week, right before a big storm was about to hit.

Their local fire department didn’t have time to come get the cat down, and neither did a local tree-trimming company.

But the tree-trimmers offered to help anyway . . . saved the cat while a neighbor live-streamed it all on Facebook . . . and just as they were rescuing it, a big double-rainbow appeared in the sky.

BORED PEOPLE ARE BUYING MORE BICYCLES

The pandemic has devastated many industries, but it’s actually boosted the bicycle business.

Market research group says after years of lackluster and declining sales, overall bicycle sales surged by 31 percent to $1.3 billion in the first three months of 2020 compared to the first quarter last year. B

Bike sales even increased in areas where movement restrictions weren’t as tight, due to shutdowns of non-essential businesses.

Experts say bicycles fit well into the new realities of the COVID-19 era as the risk of transmitting the virus while biking is low, riding is compliant with social distancing guidelines and it can also be a family group activity.

MIRANDA LAMBERT’S LATEST HIT OFFERS ‘HOPE’

Miranda Lambert is closing in on the top spot on the country charts with her latest single, “Bluebird.” She co-wrote the song for her latest album, Wildcard, and Miranda says it offers a message that so many need to hear these days. [“It’s got, it makes me feel- It kind of makes me go inward a little bit and think about the lyrics, and it’s got this hope to it. It’s got a darkness to though, but it’s also hopeful in a way of life is going to give me lemons, period. Like, if there wasn’t problems, we wouldn’t appreciate the great days, you know? But going through those things and overcoming problems, whatever they are make us strong and appreciate the sun. You know, 10 straight days of rain and then the sun comes out. And you are like, I forgot how much I loved it!”]

“Bluebird” sits at Number Five on the Mediabase country singles chart.
