On Today’s Show

➢ A Reddit user recently posted on the site about her quest to get her neighbor to remove a frog lawn ornament. In the post she explains that she walks through the neighborhood each day with her husband and six-year-old daughter, and that the daughter finds the frog statuette, which is holding a jar, creepy. She adds that she asked the owners to move the statuette, but they declined. She then reached out to a neighbor, who is vice president of the Homeowners Association (HOA)—who then ruled the statuette is a violation of bylaws, so the frog’s owners were forced to take it down and are now being fined. The post has hundreds of comments. Many commenters disapprove of the woman’s choices regarding the statue—saying she took things too far or that she’s teaching her daughter to be entitled.

➢ It’s hard to tell if someone is screaming in joy or pain sometimes. An Australian man recently told The Lott officials that he was talking to a friend about the winning numbers from Saturday’s (June 20th) Lotto $20 Million Superdraw when he realized he had won. He was so excited that he started screaming with joy, and he says his neighbors then checked on him out of concern. The man was one of 27 players to get a $508,959.20 Division One jackpot from the drawing. He plans to use some of his winnings to buy a home.

➢ Talk about late. A Wisconsin man says he received a postcard from his parents earlier this month and was shocked to learn they actually sent it 16 years earlier. Tom Ramsden of Beloit says the postcard features an image of Mount Rushmore, and it arrived at his home earlier this month with a note attached to it saying it had been found in Green Bay on June 11th. Ramsden soon learned the card was sent in 2004. The family says they have no idea where the postcard has been hiding for the last 16 years.

➢ The “Pirates of the Caribbean” are getting ready to set sail in a whole new direction, with Margot Robbie set to star in a new version of one of Disney’s biggest film franchises. Robbie, the star of “Suicide Squad” and “I, Tonya,” will head a female-driven “Pirates” movie, which is now in the early stages of development. It marks the latest bid by Hollywood to re-imagine classic movies by casting women in the lead roles, including the 2016 reboot of “Ghostbusters” starring Melissa McCarthy and 2018 comedy heist “Ocean’s 8” that starred Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett.

Possible Reasons Mosquitos Love You

Some people get bitten by mosquitos more than others.  And there are actually reasons for it.

  1. Your body temperature is slightly higher than other people’s.  It varies because of age, gender, and how much you move around.  It can even go up if you eat spicy food.

  1. Exercise.  It raises your body temperature, and makes you produce more carbon dioxide and lactic acid, which mosquitos love.  They also like pregnant women, because their temperature is higher, and they produce more CO2.

  1. You’re stressed out.  Studies have shown mosquitos could be drawn to the hormones that come out in your sweat when you’re stressed.

  1. You haven’t showered in a while.  They’re attracted to a specific type of bacteria.  And we tend to have more bacteria near our ankles and feet.  So that might be why they target that area a lot.

  1. Dark clothing.  Reds, blacks, and blues attract more mosquitoes than lighter colors like white and yellow.

  1. Alcohol.  It dilates the blood vessels in your skin, making it a little warmer for a while.  And they’re also attracted to the ethanol that comes out in your sweat.

CANADIAN FOODS
To celebrate “Canada Day”, see if you can name the main ingredient(s) in the following …

  • Back Bacon (aka Canadian Bacon, it’s made from pork loin as opposed to regular bacon, made from pork belly)
  • Bannock (pan-fried bread)
  • Beaver Tails (fried dough pastry, coated in sweet stuff)
  • Caesar (like a Bloody Mary but with Clamato juice instead of tomato)
  • Butter Tarts (well duh, butter … plus sugar, corn syrup, egg, and raisins)
  • Montréal Smoked Meat (deli meat made of salted and cured beef brisket with spices)
  • Nanaimo Bars (a layer of wafer crumbs topped with custard-flavor butter icing, then covered with melted chocolate)

GOOD NEWS

It’s amazing how many older people have figured out the online hangout thing.  A 30-year-old guy in New York became friends with an 82-year-old before the virus hit.  And they haven’t let the lockdown stop them.  They’ve been talking on the phone, and just made the switch to Zoom this month.

Duck Brand duct tape has a $10,000 scholarship contest each year that challenges kids to make prom dresses and tuxedos out of duct tape.  Now a girl’s amazing coronavirus-themed dress is going viral.  It took 394 hours and 41 rolls of tape to make it.  They haven’t announced the winner yet, but she’s got a good chance.

FLAT SHOES SALES SOAR 60% AS WOMEN OPT FOR LOCKDOWN COMFORT

It seems women are ditching heels in favor of more comfortable shoes during lockdown.

Anthony McGrath is a celebrity stylist and tells Daily Mail, “Since people have stopped leaving the house to go to work and visit restaurants, clubs, or bars, they have been seeking out more comfortable clothing to wear, and that goes for shoes too. […] Flats, pumps and flip flops have become the go-to shoes while heels are collecting dust at the back of the wardrobe.”

David Bell, the founder of a brand that specializes in ballet flats and other flat shoes says sales are up 60 percent compared to the same time last year.

Still, McGrath expects heels to make a comeback once all quarantine measures are lifted.

TUESDAY JUNE 30TH

  1. A couple in Cleveland walked into a Little Caesars right before it closed, and asked for whatever they had left.  They ended up buying a pepperoni pizza.  And the pepperonis were arranged in the shape of a swastika.  Both employees have already been fired.  (Here are Jason and Misty Laska, the couple who bought the pizza.)

  1. Here’s another person behaving badly.  This happened on Saturday when a woman wanted to buy beer, but is told she has to wear a mask.  The clerk tells her she can buy one.  She spits on the counter, under the protective plastic partition.  (The clerk offers to help the woman recording, but she wants to “keep watching.”)

  1. There’s a newperfume that’s supposed to smell like outer space.  It’s called Eau de Space, and you can pre-order a bottle through Kickstarter for $29.  Here’s former astronaut Tony Antonelli talking about what space smells like.  (He went twice, in 2009 and 2010.)

  1. Jim Gaffigan LOVES bacon.  He even believes the sizzle sound it makes is applause for the bacon.

TENILLE TOWNES HOSTS ANNUAL BENEFIT CONCERT TONIGHT

Tenille Townes will host her annual “Big Hearts For Big Kids” benefit concert tonight (Tuesday, June 30th) at 7 p.m. CT from Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium.

The show will be streamed via Tenille’s YouTube, Facebook and Instagram pages. In addition to performances of songs from her new album, The Lemonade Stand, the virtual concert will feature at-home performances from Dierks Bentley, Brandi Carlile, and Luke Combs, to name a few.

[“Yeah, I mean I’m freaking out at this lineup for Big Hearts. I just can’t even believe it’s happening. And, to be able to do it from the Ryman is such a sacred thing. And yeah, just looking forward to people being able to watch on any of the social media platforms and they can visit bigheartsforbigkids.com for those donate buttons while they do so.”]

In the 10 years since Tenille started the “Big Hearts For Big Kids” fundraiser, she has raised over $1.9 million for Sunrise House, a local youth shelter in Tenille’s hometown of Grande Prairie, Alberta Canada. Proceeds from this year’s event will once again benefit Sunrise House as well as Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee’s Troop 6000, an initiative that supports girls without permanent housing.

Chase Rice “Addressed” Saturday’s Non-Social Distancing Concert

CHASE RICE posted a video addressing the controversy about his non-social distancing concert on Saturday.  It’s mostly an account of what happened, and how he’s planning to move forward.

He started by saying everybody had a blast, and it wasn’t until he posted a clip from the show that people had a “big problem.”  He said he understands that “there are a lot of different opinions on COVID-19” . . . and his biggest concern are his fans.

Quote, “You guys are everything, and your safety is a huge priority.  So moving forward, I have a drive-in show on Friday.  Take your trucks, take your cars.  You have your own space, you can get out of your cars, you can get out of your trucks and party with me.

“But stay in your own space, stay with the people you came with.  The biggest thing for all of us is the safer we are now, the quicker we get to actual, normal live shows.  Thank you for understanding, please go by the rules.”

Garth Brooks’ Drive-In Concert on Saturday Set a Record

Over 350,000 people were at the drive-in watching GARTH BROOKS’ live stream simulcast concert on Saturday.  That was enough to make it the largest one-night show ever at outdoor theaters in North America. All the drive-ins followed the local CDC guidelines that included staff wearing personal protective equipment . . . vehicles parked six feet away from each other . . . and limited capacity in restrooms.  In other Garth news, he and actor Chris Pratt seem to be working on what Chris calls a “top secret” project. He shared the information while a guest on Rob Lowe‘s podcast saying, “I met Garth and we are trying to do something together and I think in it, I will sing some country, which is pretty cool.” The two reportedly met at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards where Chris introduced Garth and presented him with the Artist of the Decade award.

KANE BROWN performed “Worldwide Beautiful” on Sunday’s “Black Entertainment Television Awards”.  Hard to believe, but it was the first time the show featured a performance from a black male solo country artist.

It was a two-part segment that started with gospel singer JONATHAN MCREYNOLDS doing his song “People”.  Then he made way for Kane who performed “Worldwide Beautiful” with his full band.
