➢ “Canadian Tire” says a downloading error is to blame for a glitch that caused all items to scan at the register as “Mr. Potato Head”. Five stores in Lindsay and Whitby, ON were impacted in the bizarre computer system fritz that started around 7 a.m. Monday. A staffer said any item the team scanned showed the same product number and information as the classic toy, which returned to popularity in the “Toy Story” movies. It took about 90 minutes to correct the glitch.

➢ One of North America’s largest travel retailers is launching personal protection equipment (PPE) vending machines across the U.S. and Canada. (Analysts predict it will do well in the U.S. since it’s already done well in Asia)

As some hotels re-open, the CDC says that some of the dirtiest objects in a hotel room are the remote control and the bedside lamp switch.

➢ A guy was trying to convince his dog that it would be miserable going to the beach.  And then the dog responded by saying, “I won’t be miserable.”  Think I’m lying?  Listen for yourself.

➢ A woman in Texas has a chicken that laughs when you tickle it.  Here’s what that sounds like.  (The chicken is one of 40 animals that live on a hobby farm.  And the woman says the tickling doesn’t harm the chicken at all.  It’s just responding to touch.)

Five Mistakes You Might Still Be Making with Face Masks

  1. Using the wrong material.  The best reusable face masks are made of breathable fibers with tight weaves, like lightweight denim or cotton bedsheets.  A thread count around 100 is ideal.  If you can see through it when you hold it to the light, it’s too thin.

  1. Putting your mask on too late.  Ideally, you should put it on before you leave the house, or at least before you get out of the car.  If you wait until you’re walking into a store, you might be exposing yourself to the virus without knowing it.

  1. Taking it off too early.  For the same reason, you should leave it on until you get in your car, or until you get home.

  1. Accidentally contaminating it.  Touching your mask to adjust it, or even just wearing it around your neck could contaminate it.

  1. Never washing it.  Cloth masks should be washed after every use on the hottest setting possible.  Or if you only wear it once in a while, you can let it sit in a bag for a week to make sure any virus on it dies off.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. Pez dispensers originally looked like lighters and were marketed at adults as an alternative to smoking.

  1. The three highest-grossing media franchises of all time are Pokemon . . . Hello Kitty . . . and Winnie the Pooh.  Mickey Mouse and the other Disney characters are fourth . . . “Star Wars”is fifth.

  1. 4% of the sand on Normandy’s beaches is broken down shrapnel from D-Day.

  1. There are 19 countries that don’t have a single river, including the Bahamas, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.

GOOD NEWS

On her wedding day, a Minnesota bride – willing to get her dress dirty – jumped out of her car to help the victim of a crash. She says she couldn’t have done it without the help of other good Samaritans who were willing to lend a hand too.

The photo posted on Facebook stopped people in their tracks: A bride – in her wedding dress – kneeling with other good Samaritans to help the victim of a car crash in South St. Paul, Minnesota.

The newlyweds, Rachel and Calvin Taylor, were on their way home from their wedding and they say they knew they had to stop and help out. According to officials, what started as a fender-bender quickly became a four-vehicle crash with one woman pinned in between two vehicles.

Rachel says she is not a licensed nurse yet, but she is studying for the exam and hopes to get her license soon.

CAN YOU TELL ME HOW TO GET….

In a town called Seabeck, Washington that’s just west of Seattle, there’s an actual street called SESAME STREET.

And we’re telling you about it because . . . a drunk driver crashed into a gas station and then abandoned his dented SUV on Sesame Street on Sunday morning.  A police dog tracked him down and he was arrested.  It turns out this isn’t his first DUI. He’s had five DUIs in the past 10 years. He’s been charged with felony DUI, hit and run, and driving with a suspended license.

A Guy Managed to Get Arrested Three Times in Four Days

Last Thursday, a 32-year-old guy named Devin Roberts from Bardwell, Kentucky was busted for stealing more than $5,000 worth of equipment from a city building.  He tried to say he’d just found the stuff by a dumpster, but he was arrested for felony theft.

Two days later, he tried to start a fight with a male grocery store worker who confronted him for making inappropriate comments to female workers.  The cops found him passed out drunk in the front seat of a running car and arrested him for DUI.

And then, the next day, he was arrested AGAIN when he was caught drinking in the passenger seat of a friend’s car . . . and that violated the terms of his bond from the other arrests.

So he was arrested three times in four days and he’s facing SEVERAL charges

TAMAGOTCHI

The Tamagotchi is back! The virtual pet that was so popular in the 90s is coming to North America again in July, with a new product called Tamagotchi On Wonder Garden.

The $59.99 toy will launch on July 26. Unlike the original Tamagotchi, the new one can go outside its house, celebrate your birthday with colorful balloons and a festive tune, and even travel to different lands.

It can also get married and raise children, who will later grow into adults, and continue the family tree.  And the difficulty level isn’t as tough as the original toy. In this version, you can drop off your pet at a hotel for daycare.

Still, the Wonder Garden toy retains the core nostalgic elements from the 90s. To satisfy and grow the pet into adulthood, you need to keep its hunger, happiness and entertainment levels above dangerous thresholds. When it needs something, it beeps — even when the screen is turned off, which can be frustrating. Just as in the 90s, the gameplay is still very analog. You don’t need Wi-Fi to play a Tamagotchi, as connecting to a mobile app is optional.

The brand first launched in 1996 in Japan and came to America the following year.

WHY BEAVERS ARE BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

A study says beavers are now contributing to environmental issues.

German and U.S. researchers studied satellite images of an area of land on Alaska’s Baldwin Peninsula from 17 years. They found the number of beaver dams has risen from just two in 2002 to 98 in 2019—a 5,000 percent increase.

It’s due to higher temperatures in the area, which lead to more shrub land for the beavers, which provide the animals with more materials to build dams.

The issue is the dams create bodies of water that are warmer than the surrounding permafrost (ground that remains completely frozen) and the lakes therefore accelerate the thawing of the permafrost, which releases greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane into the environment.

In the course of the 17-years studied, the overall water area in the region grew by 8.3 percent—roughly two-thirds of which was due to beavers. The researchers suspect beavers are causing similar issues in other areas of the Arctic.

FRIDAY JULY 3RD

The woman in San Diego who wouldn’twear a mask and tried to shame a Starbucks barista for not serving her has responded to the backlash.  She claims she never threatened him, and she’s worried that forcing people to wear masks will lead to, quote, “mandatory digital certificates” and “forced vaccinations.”  (The GoFundMe page someone started for the barista is now up to over $80,000.)

  1. A new pop-up store opened in Miami that only sells COVID-19 essentials, like forehead thermometers, face masks, and hand sanitizer.

RUSSELL DICKERSON GENDER REVEAL

Russell Dickerson and his wife, Kailey, have learned that they will be welcoming a baby boy this fall. Russell gave his wife a very special gender reveal at their Nashville area home.

The couple recently visited the doctor, but only Russell learned the sex of the baby via a folded up piece of paper inside a sealed envelope.

At Kailey’s request – the idea of which came to her in a dream – Russell hit up the local Target store and bought several outfits for a little boy. He laid the clothes all over the bed in their guest bedroom and hung blue streamers around the room. Russell led Kailey into the room with her eyes covered, surprising the mom-to-be who shared the news on social media writing, “As a girl raised with 5 older brothers, this is everything I ever wanted and more. I love the boys in my life so much and now I get to raise one of my own.”

Russell and Kailey announced the pregnancy back in April. This will be their first child.
