➢ A MIKE TROUT baseball card set a record on Saturday, becoming the highest-selling sports card of all time, at a price of $3,936,000. The previous record was $3.12 million in 2016, for a 1909 Honus Wagner “T-206” card. The Trout card is “one-of-a-kind”. It was a mint condition rookie card, with a certified autograph. The auction started last month with an opening bid of $1 million. The seller seems to have made a significant profit. The card reportedly sold for $400,000 on eBay two years ago, from a seller based in Taiwan.
➢ Russell Crowe was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” recently and explained how he owes his American film career to Sharon Stone.
➢ Carole Baskin is allegedly demanding a $1.2 million US fee to take part in a second season of “Tiger King”. Baskin was one of the subjects of the docuseries, which followed zoo owner Joe Exotic as he was convicted of plotting to kill the animal rights activist, and explored rumors that she was involved with the disappearance of her wealthy ex-husband Don Lewis, who was legally declared dead in 2002. While Exotic is said to have jumped on board after Netflix reportedly secured the rights to a second season of the show, Baskin has yet to sign on the dotted line.

CORN ON THE COB
There are plenty of ways to cook corn on the cob, but I’ve got to admit I’ve only ever attempted one of them: good old boiling. But it turns out, you should be cooking your cobs just about ANY way other than boiling. Why?
For your health. A new article at the Mashable website explains that corn contains folic acid (also known as vitamin B9). Folic acid allows the body to healthily produce red and white blood cells, and it also helps with the conversion of carbohydrates into energy — in other words, it promotes a healthy metabolism.
It’s particularly important in pregnancies, as it lowers the possibility of birth defects. When corn is boiled, it loses its folic acid, which seeps into the water. So, you’re essentially making your corn less healthy by dropping it into that pot. Other, healthier alternatives include steaming corn in the husk (which retains its nutrients), grilling and oven-roasting.

GOOD NEWS
A waitress at a Red Lobster in Lincoln, Nebraska got a nice, big $100 tip, along with a note thanking her for wearing a mask. The person said they did it after they saw a story about an anti-masker in Nebraska tipping someone five cents.
The anonymous patron is referencing a story that went viral earlier this month, which also took place in Lincoln.
A waitress was working at when a customer left a 5 cent tip on an almost 40 dollar tab that read “get rid of masks, tips will be bigger.”
The waitress that got the $100 tip says “I cried, I think it’s beautiful. You know we’re not just doing this for ourselves were doing it for everyone. It made me cry that I got the recognition but I think it could have been anybody.”
Instances with customers and restaurant and grocery store employees have gotten so intense, a state went as far as to issue a law to protect customer service workers.

WHAT’S YOUR TAKE………………. – Help, I Lied About My Height
I met this woman on Hinge, where I lied and said I was 5’11”. I’m really only 5’8″.
We’ve been talking for months and she’s finally ready to meet in person and I’m afraid she’s going to think I’m a liar the second she sees me.
And she’s going to know right away. Her profile says she’s also 5’8″ and she’s definitely not lying.
After we talked for a while she told me she played basketball in college so she’s got to be tall. Is there a way to cover this up?
Should I just tell her before we go on our date? Should I just say nothing and hope she doesn’t say anything? Also, I may be only 5’7″ and a half.

WELL-TRAINED DOG…OWNERS:
German dog owners may soon be legally required to take their pets for walks twice per day.
Under planned rules, people who own dogs will be required to walk their dog twice per day for at least one-hour total, and will be banned from chaining their dogs for long periods of time, and from leaving dogs alone the whole day.
Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner says the changes are based on expert advice to ensure animal protection and welfare. A draft of the new regulations has already been drawn up and could become law early next year.
A spokesperson says it is unlikely that private dog owners would receive police visits to check whether they had taken their pooch for a walk.
DATING IN 2020:
☞ What’s being called the “World’s first extreme age-gap dating site” is promising to match users with people 20 years younger or older than them. And photos are optional. “20 Dating” creator David Minns says people trying to connect with someone more than 20 years older or younger on Tinder or Bumble are going to end up with a lot of rejection, but on his site, “Everyone knows where they stand”, and you can’t even connect with someone who is separated from you by just 19 years. And there’s no swiping…the site’s algorithm allows all users with the appropriate age gap to instantly contact one another.
☞ One in five single adults say they have broken up with a partner because they weren’t “green” enough. A survey of 2,000 Americans looked at the relationship between being environmentally-friendly and…well…relationships, and found that 56% think it’s turn-off when a potential partner isn’t eco-friendly. 69% said they find being environmentally-friendly an attractive trait in a partner. 85% of respondents in the survey conducted by OnePoll said it’s important for them and their partner to have similar values.

MAREN MORRIS’ QUARANTINE INCLUDES LOTS OF POSTMATES, BRAVO, NETFLIX
Maren Morris has been enjoying her time at home with her infant son, Hayes, and her husband, Ryan Hurd. While she’s loving the perks of having so much downtime, which includes lots of Postmates deliveries, Maren tells us she can hardly wait to get back on tour. [“Off the road, I’m the laziest person. I just watch constant Netflix and Bravo and do nothing with my life except Postmates food. I’ve loved doing that in my free time. The worst part is definitely not being able to see my band, my crew… We were so excited to get on the road this year and we had such an amazing production planned and set list and just everything was sussed out and then it kind of got the rug taken out from underneath it.”]
“To Hell & Back” is the third single from Maren’s Girl album.
The album has already produced two chart-topping singles with the title track and “The Bones.”
TENILLE TOWNES SAYS BEING ACM NEW FEMALE ARTIST IS ‘SURREAL’
Tenille Townes is still trying to wrap her head around the fact that she’s the new ACM New Female Artist of the Year. She learned the exciting news on Thursday (August 20th) from Keith Urban when he crashed a zoom call that she thought she was having with a reporter.
Now that she’s had some time to absorb the win, Tenille can only describe it as “surreal.” [“I think this feels especially surreal because as a kid, you know, I’d watch the ACMs and I would see my heroes performing and just think about what that could feel like far off, someday, and the fact that this someday has rolled around is incredibly surreal and just so amazing to me and it’s just really overwhelming to think about all that the ACM represents and mean to me.”]
Tenille is also nominated for Musical Event of the Year for “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” with Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris, Ashley McBryde, Caylee Hammack and Elle King at this year’s ACM Awards, which will air from Nashville on Wednesday, Sept. 16th at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. She will also perform during the awards ceremony, which will be hosted for the first time by Keith Urban.
TIM McGRAW, LUKE COMBS, MAREN MORRIS TO PERFORM ON ACM AWARDS
Tim McGraw, Luke Combs, Maren Morris, Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini, Old Dominion and Thomas Rhett featuring Jon Pardi are among the artists set to perform at the 55th annual Academy of Country Music Awards. The performances will take place live from three venues in Nashville — the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman Auditorium and the Bluebird Cafe — and the show will be hosted by Keith Urban. The ACM Awards will air on CBS on Sept. 16th at 8 p.m. ET.
Additional acts and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.
FAST FACTS

SPORTS PROTESTS
The NBA Playoffs ground to a halt yesterday . . . after the Milwaukee Bucks refused to take the floor, and boycotted the game. (Here’s video of their statement.)
The team was protesting the latest police shooting of an African American man . . . this time in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The Bucks were supposed to play Game Five against the Orlando Magic, but the game has been postponed indefinitely. Later yesterday afternoon, the other two NBA playoff games were shut down . . . the L.A. Lakers vs. the Portland Trail Blazers and the Oklahoma City Thunder vs. the Houston Rockets.
Since the shooting happened in Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Brewers stood in solidarity with the Bucks and the city and nixed their game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Two other MLB games were also abandoned . . . the L.A. Dodgers vs the San Francisco Giants, and the Seattle Mariners vs. the San Diego Padres.
Major League Soccer had five matches called off, and the WNBA joined the strike.
Coincidentally, yesterday was also the fourth anniversary of Colin Kaepernick’s first peaceful protest during the National Anthem.
Late last night . . . after boycotting yesterday’s playoff games . . . NBA players held a meeting to decide whether or not to resume the season.
Nothing was decided . . . and since the talks will continue today, it’s likely that today’s scheduled playoff games are OFF.
The players conducted an informal poll, and the L.A. Lakers and L.A. Clippers voted to leave the bubble and end the season.
No one knows what to expect in the coming days . . . not just from the NBA, but from the other active sports leagues too. Pro sports teams striking in response to racial injustice is historically unprecedented.
