➢ Remember this from a few years ago?  An audio trick that made the rounds in 2018 is going viral again.  There’s a toy that says the word “brainstorm” when you push a button, but not everyone hears that. You’ll either hear “brainstorm” or “green needle,” depending on which one you’re thinking about when you listen.

➢ The groom at an outdoor wedding in Massachusetts joked during his vows that 2020 hasn’t been the best year.  And right on cue, a huge bolt of lightning hit nearby.  Here’s the bride and groom talking about it.

➢ A four-year-old girl named Charlie has gone viral on TikTok for her recent dance performance in which she absolutely refused to move. It shows Charlie standing on stage in the front row, in full costume, completely still for six minutes. Charlie’s mother, Tiffany says that Charlie danced for the last sequence when she was moved away from front and center. She says when she asked her child about her lack of dancing, Charlie said, “There were a lot of people.” Cosby says she thinks the video has gone viral because Charlie’s mood in it is “very 2020.”

➢ It’s a sad time in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Residents in the state’s largest city are mourning an urban cornstalk that had been growing up through a crack in the concrete at the intersection of 57th Street and Minnesota Avenue. Dubbed the 57th Street Corn, the plant even had its own Twitter account, and was treated as a symbol of resiliency and hope as the pandemic continues. Residents reported last week that someone had ripped out the lone stalk, prompting an outcry on social media. Someone even attached a sign to a traffic post where the stalk grew that reads, “CORN RIP.”

➢ Boxing fans will have to wait a little longer for Mike Tyson’s return to the ring. The exhibition fight between Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. has been pushed back from Sept. 12 to Nov. 28. The event will be streamed on pay-per-view and will take place at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. ESPN says the organizers of the event needed more time to land international TV deals and tie up loose ends in the pay-per-view side.

Jeff Bezos Is the World’s First $200 Billion Man

The pandemics continues to be very, very, VERY good to JEFF BEZOS.

Amazon stock went up last week, making Bezos the first person in the world to be worth $200 BILLION.

That’s $90 billion more than the world’s second-richest person, BILL GATES.  That poor slob’s only got $116 billion.

According to Forbes, even if you adjust for inflation, Bezos’ fortune is the largest EVER amassed. And he’d be even RICHER if he hadn’t given his ex-wife McKenzie 25% of his stake in Amazon during their divorce.  That chunk is now worth $63 billion.

Amazon stock is up nearly 80% since the beginning of the year, thanks in large part to changing consumer habits during quarantine.

Amazon makes up about 90% of Jeff’s fortune.  He also owns the “Washington Post”, the aerospace company Blue Origin, and other private investments.

GOOD NEWS

A father and daughter in Chicago started a charity in 2009 called Books 4 Cause that takes used books and gives them out for free.

COW SURPRISES BEACHGOERS BY EMERGING FROM THE SEA

You expect to see fish, maybe crabs, at the beach, but not a cow. A person visiting Magheraclogher Beach in Bunbeg, Ireland captured a video of the moment a cow comes charging out of the sea and runs up the sand. The footage shows the cow fleeing from the humans on the beach and running off. The photographer said the cow had been stranded on a nearby island when high tides came in and then the animal decided to return to the mainland.

MAN WALKING HIS DOG KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS BY FALLING CAT

It’s almost like the cat knew he was a dog person. A man in China was walking a dog when a cat fell on his head, knocking him out. The incident was caught by a CCTV camera and currently has over 120,000 views on YouTube. The man in the video is named Gao, and he can be seen walking his golden retriever, when out of nowhere a black and white cat drops out of the sky and onto his head, causing him to collapse onto the sidewalk unconscious. According to reports, the cat belonged to his elderly neighbor and had fallen from the balcony. Apparently, the cat spent some time in a hospital to recover from its injuries, and Gao is seeking compensation from his neighbor to cover the incident.

Rich New Yorkers Are Getting Rapid COVID Tests To Attend Concerts
While people around the country are waiting a week or more to get COVID test results, rich New Yorkers in the Hamptons are taking rapid results test so that they can attend parties, concerts and dine out.

According to the New York Times, concierge doctors are paid $150 to $500 per test.  People who attend events with these tests arrive 30 minutes early, take the test, and wait in their car for a text with their results.

However, this isn’t a fool-proof plan.  Dr. Demetre Daskalakis explains to the NY Times that “Negatives are not definitive” and that people who have been exposed to the virus may not test positive until the end of the two-week incubation period.

Things You Probably Don’t Know About the Pumpkin Spice Phenomenon

Starbucks brought back the Pumpkin Spice Latte this week, which is the earliest it’s ever been on menus.  So here are five things you might be surprised to learn about the whole pumpkin spice craze . . .

  1. The flavor profile has been around for centuries.  Pumpkin was a common ingredient in Native American recipes.  And the earliest-known “pumpkin spice” reference dates back to a British recipe from 1675 with pepper, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

More recently, the spice company McCormick is credited with giving “pumpkin pie spice” its name and putting it on grocery store shelves in the 1950s.

  1. The original Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte didn’t contain any pumpkin.  The drink got its name from all the spices that go in a pumpkin pie, but it didn’t contain any actual pumpkin.  Then, in 2015, Starbucks tweaked the recipe to include it.

  1. People drink the most Pumpkin Spice Lattes on Halloween.  According to data from MyFitnessPal, we order more PSLs on October 31st than any other day of the year.

  1. Some of the STRANGEST pumpkin spice products to ever be created include Pumpkin Spice deodorantPumpkin Spice dog shampoo, and Pumpkin Spice SPAM.

FRIDAY AUGUST 28TH

  1. Yesterday, NBA players met again, and agreedto continue the playoffs, but there’s no timetable on that.  Games were canceled for the second day in a row, and it’s unclear when they will resume, although it could be this weekend.

Also yesterday, seven Major League Baseball games were nixed.  And the only teams that DID play were those who boycotted their games on Wednesday, with the exception of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

And Cardinals pitcher Jack Flaherty was upset.  He Tweeted, quote, “WE ARE THE ONLY SPORT PLAYING TODAY LET THAT SINK IN.”  He later said he was frustrated that MLB didn’t have a unified response like the NBA did.

The NHL, which didn’t suspend any games on Wednesday, postponed their playoff games for yesterday and today.  And a bunch of NFL teams nixed practice.

The New York Mets and Miami Marlins did something unique:  They briefly took the field to stand in silence for 42 seconds . . . in honor of Jackie Robinson . . . and then left, leaving a Black Lives Matter shirt on home plate.  (Here’s video.)

  1. Milana Vayntrub plays Lily in the AT&T commercials, and for some reason, people have been sharing lewd memes lately about the size of her chest.  During an Instagram Live session, she saidit hurts, and feels like sexual assault.

  1. A Taco Bell worker in Tennessee did CPR and saveda guy’s life in the drive-thru this month.  And she risked her own life in the process.  Her named is Sonja Frazier, and she has a lung condition that makes her high-risk for COVID-19.  But she says she didn’t even think about it.  She just knew he needed help.  (Note:  The sweeping sound in the second half of the clip is from the source.)

  1. For National Red Wine Day today (August 28th), here’s comedian Bryan Gutmann, talking about wine making people think they are more classy.

JUSTIN MOORE HAS MORE FUN ON THE GOLF COURSE NOW THAT HE’S A WORSE PLAYER –

Justin Moore admits that his golf game his taken a turn for the worse but he’s much more relaxed about it than he used to be. He used to play often, but started feeling guilty for leaving his wife alone with their four kids. Now that he’s accepted his diminished skill level, he tells us nothing much ruffles his feathers on the course. [“I used to be right at a 10 handicap, which is pretty good for … well, for me it was really good. And when I was that good I got really mad when I hit my bad shots. I went from a 10 handicap to about an 18 handicap because of more babies and albums and stuff.  And it’s funny, because now that I play worse I don’t get as upset. I’m just like, ‘Ehhh, whatever.’ I think I’ve lowered my expectations now.  So, I don’t play near as well now but it’s almost more fun to me now.”]
