DWAYNE JOHNSON just revealed that he, his wife, and their two daughters . . . who are 4 and 2 . . . have been sick with the virus.  His wife apparently had it pretty bad, but the whole family is, quote, “on the other end of it.”

He called it “one of the most challenging and difficult things” his family has ever gone through, and it’s, quote, “much different than overcoming nasty injuries, or being evicted, or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times.”

➢A guy in Lincoln, Nebraska got up in front of the city council and gave an impassioned speech on why the city should ban the term “boneless wings” at its restaurants.  (The whole thing was kind of a joke.  It turned out he was a board member’s son.)

➢ There’s a new trend on TikTok in which one pets their cat with a wet toothbrush. People claim cats love the sensation as it reminds them of getting groomed by their mother’s tongue, and that it instantly makes the animals feel soothed and relaxed. Searching for “cat toothbrush” brings up lots of the videos, most of which seem to show cats looking very happy and relaxed while being groomed with a wet toothbrush. No word from any experts on if this is why a cat might like being brushed with a toothbrush, or not.

➢ There’s a TikTok video of a girl in her room practicing a song when her mom’s leg pops through the ceiling.  The clip got a lot of hits so the girl posted another video explaining that her mom tripped and fell in the attic, and she’s okay.

➢ Netflix has given a formal series green light to “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me”, a father-daughter comedy starring and executive produced by Oscar winner Jamie Foxx. The series is inspired by Foxx’s relationship with his daughter. This marks his return to multi-camera comedy. Following his breakout turn on Fox’s “In Living Color”, his family sitcom “The Jamie Foxx Show” ran for five seasons.

TODAY IS……………….

  • “Skyscraper Day”, a day to appreciate and admire the world’s tallest buildings. By definition, a skyscraper is any structure that clearly stands out above its surrounding environment. A loose agreement in North America & Europe puts the lower limit of a skyscraper at 150 meters (500 ft). A skyscraper taller than 300 meters (984 ft) is referred to as ‘supertall’.

WORLD’S TALLEST BUILDINGS:
3. Abraj Al-Bait Clock Tower (Mecca, Saudi Arabia) … 601 m (1,971 ft)
2. Shanghai Tower (Shanghai, China) … 632 m (2,073 ft)
1. Burj Dubai (Dubai UAE) … 828 m (2,717 ft)

Want to Live Longer? Scientists Found You Just Have to Be Generous

We’ve got the key here to a long, healthy, happy life.  And all you’ve got to do is . . . checking my notes . . . oh, give away three-quarters of your money.  No problem there.

Researchers at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands found a direct connection between the amount of money people give away and how long they live.

They found France and Japan have the longest life expectancy . . . and the highest number of average personal money transfers.  People in those countries share an average of almost 70% of their lifetime income.

And they have mortality rates that are much lower than China or Turkey . . . where people share 44% to 48% of their lifetime income.

Oh, and you don’t HAVE to give your money to strangers or to charity for this . . . helping out your kids or other family members counts.

So why is sharing your money linked to living longer?  Quote, “Sharing generosity may reflect the strength of social connectedness, which itself benefits human health and wellbeing and indirectly raises survival.”

In other words:  By being generous, it gives you stronger social connections, and those make you healthier and happier, so you live longer.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. The word “helicopter” is made up of two words . . . but not “heli” and “copter.” It comes from “helico,” which means spiral . . . and “pter,” which is a suffix that means “has wings.”

  1.  Flights today take longer than they used to . . . like, a flight from New York to Houston is almost four hours now, when it was two-and-a-half hours in 1973.  And part of the reason is because airlines now fly SLOWER to save on fuel costs.

  1. The first Olympics that were televised were the 1936 ones in Nazi Germany.  They were broadcast to 25 special viewing rooms in Germany.  The first ones that were televised worldwide were the Olympics in Tokyo in 1964.

  1. “Scarface”was a remake of a movie from 1932 that was produced by Howard Hughes, about the rise of a gangster in Chicago modeled after Al Capone.

GOOD NEWS

A nun in Chicago raised over $100,000 for her church’s food bank by running a full marathon on a treadmill.

Her name is Sister Stephanie Baliga, and she ran Division 1 track in college.

She finished in 3 hours and 33 minutes, and it might be a treadmill world record for women.  A few other nuns were there with her.  And former Olympic runner Deena

Kastor offered commentary on Zoom, along with the owner of a running shoe store called Fleet Feet.

At the end, they tried to set the scene by describing what Stephanie would have been seeing if she was running the actual Chicago Marathon.

DOG’S ILL-ADVISED CHEWING PROVES PRICEY

Usually a dog chewing stuff is more annoying than anything else, but this is one pricey chew session.

It seems a curious pooch got a hold of a fiber optic cable that ran between county buildings in Mississippi, and chewed it to pieces.

The issue is the cable costs thousands of dollars. The cable connected a courthouse and nearby Justice Court building in Amite County, and was mostly elevated but dipped to the ground by the front door of the Justice Court building.

The sheriff thinks he knows which dog did it, but lacks evidence to hold up his charge.

That’s a big deal, as if there were enough proof, the county could seek damages against the troublemaker, which amounts to more than $7,000 out of the dog owner’s pocket.

53% of People Have Used Their Extra Time Indoors on Home Improvement Projects

According to a new survey, 53% of people say they’ve used their extra time indoors in the past six months to do more home improvement projects.

And the average person says they’ve finished or they plan on finishing four projects around the house by the end of the year.

Spending all this time at home has also made us appreciate where we live even more.  Seven out of 10 people say they, quote, “love and value” their home now more than they did before the pandemic.

DID YOU KNOW?
Tim Hortons is consoling Americans who can’t take their scheduled trips to Canada this summer in the tastiest way possible: with free coffee and donuts. Through the end of the month, the Canadian coffee giant is offering a small taste of Canada to U.S. citizens who can’t make the journey north because of the ongoing border closure. The company tweeted the news last week, alongside a picture of a very Canadian postcard (featuring a moose head, among other things) which reads: “Don’t worry, the moose will be there next year.” Americans can make their claim by submitting their trip cancellation story.

KEITH URBAN GRATEFUL TO HAVE ‘WON A NOMINATION’ AT INDUSTRY AWARDS

Keith Urban finds himself a multiple nominee at the upcoming CMA Awards, it was announced yesterday (Tuesday, Sept. 1st). He is up for Male Vocalist, Musical Event, and the night’s biggest award, Entertainer of the Year.

More than two decades into his career, Keith says that just the nominations alone become more meaningful as the years go by. [“It absolutely gets sweeter as the time goes by, no question, and I really always have grasped the realization that that nomination is the first award cause they only give out a few of them. You’ve won. You’ve won a nomination, so it’s a huge honor. I mean, a lot of people don’t get that or didn’t get that. I’ve leaned more towards deep, deep appreciation for the nomination as well, and then if you get chosen out of all of that it’s like, you know . . . it’s like whipped cream on ice cream, really (laughs).”]

The CMA Awards will take place in Nashville on Nov. 11th and air on ABC.

Keith is also nominated for Male Artist of the Year at this month’s ACM Awards, which he will also host for the first time. The show will air live from Nashville on CBS on Wednesday, Sept. 16th at 8 p.m. ET.
