On Today’s Show
September 24, 2020 9:35 am➢ The L.A. Chargers scratched quarterback TYROD TAYLOR just before Sunday’s game, for a “chest injury.” As it turns out, the cause of the injury was . . . the TEAM DOCTOR.
Taylor was supposed to start the game, but his ribs were sore, so he went to the doctor to get a painkiller. The doctor injected it . . . but in the process, he PUNCTURED HIS LUNG.
Taylor hasn’t commented, but yesterday Chargers coach Anthony Lynn acknowledged that Taylor suffered a “complication” from the injection. Lynn said Taylor felt “fine” . . . despite the hole in his lung . . . but he won’t start against the Carolina Panthers this weekend. It’s unclear when he might return.
➢ “Cake Boss” star BUDDY VALASTRO. He and his family have a bowling alley in their New Jersey home, and they were enjoying a game the other night when their pinsetter malfunctioned.
Buddy reached in to dislodge a pin, and got all messed up. His rep says, quote, “his right hand became lodged and compressed inside the unit.
“Unable to remove his hand, he can see a [one-and-a-half-inch] metal rod slowly and repeatedly impale his hand three times between his ring finger and middle finger.”
Buddy’s sons actually had to cut through the metal rod with a reciprocating saw to set him free.
Buddy had two surgeries, and he’s home from the hospital, but his rep says he’ll need, quote, “prolonged recovery and therapy.”
➢ An elementary school teacher in Florida named Edith Pride spoke at a school board meeting last week. And she asked parents to stop being idiots during their kids’ online classes. She said she and other teachers have seen nudity, drugs, and all sorts of nonsense going on in the background.
➢ A Christmas cookbook inspired by the TV show “Downton Abbey” is coming soon. The Official Downton Abbey Christmas Cookbook includes recipes viewers see during the sit-down meals in the show, and are also historically and culturally accurate to the time period. The book will also tell stories from the series, talk about seasonal traditions from the Edwardian era, and have photographs from important moments in the show. It will be released on October 27th, but you can pre-order it on Amazon now for about $31.
➢“Elf” is considered a modern classic among Christmas movies, so it’s surprising there’s never been a sequel. And now, we know why.
JAMES CAAN played Buddy’s biological father in the movie, and in a recent interview, he said, quote, “We were going to do it . . . but the director [Jon Favreau] and Will [Ferrell] didn’t get along very well.”
Apparently, Will wanted to do it . . . but apparently he wanted to do it without Favreau, but because of contractual obligations, it got too messy.

Colts Player Gives Fan His Wedding Ring
Indianapolis Colts linebacker Darius Leonard gave away more than he bargained to one lucky fan following Sunday’s win over the Minnesota Vikings. It’s customary for NFL players to give their sweatbands or gloves to members of the crowd after games.
However, when Leonard handed over his gloves to a young boy wearing his jersey, he didn’t realize at the time that his wedding ring was inside one of them. Thankfully, the fan on the receiving end quickly came forward via Twitter on Monday.
My step-nephew got [Darius Leonard’s] game gloves yesterday, Bleacher Reports Tyler Brooke wrote on Twitter. Plot twist: Leonard’s wedding ring was accidentally in the gloves. Someone help us get his ring back to him.
Leonard soon saw the tweet, and the humor in the situation, responding: “I need that” along with four crying face emojis. It now looks like an exchange is in the works, if it hasn’t happened already.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS
- Shakespeareinvented the name Jessica in “The Merchant of Venice”.
- The word “turquoise” is based on the word “Turkish,” because it described the color of the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of southern Turkey.
- College basketball players aren’t allowed to have a jersey number that includes a six, seven, eight, or nine. That’s because after a foul, the refs signal the player’s number to the scorer’s table with both hands, and small numbers make it easier.
- In the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme, there’s no mention of him being an egg . . . that’s just how he’s evolved to look in pop culture.
GOOD NEWS
Natalie Lamb Esfahani and Shervin Esfahani had their dream wedding planned, with all the details booked and 100 guests ready to attend. Then the virus hit.
As the May 2 wedding date approached, the couple decided to cancel it.
After going through “all the stages of grief,” the couple decided to use the money they had left from the wedding to live out their dream of owning a part-time tiny house.
Over the course of two months during the lockdown, the Baltimore couple converted a camper van, and they finally had their vow ceremony in front of their tiny house on wheels.
Their wedding was expected to cost $35,000, and they put $15,000 into deposits, much of which they lost.
After a lot of research they spent $11,000, using what money they had left from their canceled wedding to create an off-grid, self-reliant vehicle. After their ceremony, the couple spent another week in their camper van, traveling to several different locations.
Once their honeymoon is over, they will return to Baltimore and return to work, but they plan on keeping the camper they built in lockdown as a means of escape. Plus, Natalie said it reminds them of the freedom they gained during a difficult time.

Three People Stop at a Donut Shop After a Robbery . . . Where Cops Are Taking a Donut Break
The old stereotype about cops loving donuts is beyond played out. But that doesn’t make it totally false.
Three people robbed a house in Chico, California around 3:00 A.M. on Monday, and then they decided to swing by a 24-hour donut shop. And . . . there happened to be a few cops inside at the time having coffee.
The cops saw some drug paraphernalia fall out of one woman’s pockets as she got out of the car. So the cops went outside to search them, and another person in their group had a semi-automatic gun tucked into his waistband. And just as they were searching the car, they got a call reporting the robbery.
They connected it to the three people at the donut shop and arrested a 25-year-old woman, a 25yr old and 32 yr old man on several charges.
A Police Helicopter Pilot Gets a Burglary Alert from His Doorbell Cam and Hunts Them Down
Three teens in Deltona, Florida were driving around at two in the morning on Sunday, looking for cars to break into. And someone’s Ring doorbell cam got them on video.
The person was at work when he got an alert that showed them trying to break into a truck in his driveway. But he was still in a great spot to catch them . . .Because he happens to work as a POLICE HELICOPTER PILOT.
He was up in the air when the alert came through on his phone. So he used the helicopter’s night vision camera to track them down.
Cops on the ground tried to pull them over but couldn’t. So he kept following the car while they set up spike strips. And all three of them were arrested.
Police found a bunch of wallets in the car, and it turned out the car itself was stolen. They’re facing multiple charges.

BLAKE SHELTON TO CO-PRODUCE NBC DRAMA INSPIRED BY ‘GOD’S COUNTRY’
Blake Shelton‘s hit song, “God’s Country,” is the inspiration for a new NBC drama. Deadline.com reports that Blake, Las Vegas creator Gary Scott Thompson and Universal Television are joining forces on the project, with Blake serving as co-producer.
God’s Country is about when “the patriarch of a hardworking Midwestern farm family dies mysteriously in a car accident, (and) his grown children discover he was keeping a devastating secret they could never have imagined.”
The song “God’s Country” topped the country charts in 2019. It has been certified triple platinum and was named Single of the Year at last week’s Academy of Country Music Awards.
In other Blake news, “The Voice” posted video of this year’s judges giving updates on what they did during quarantine. BLAKE SHELTON learned how to make jam.
Quote, “I have eight peach trees, and every year they make a bunch of peaches and we’d eat ’em, but this year there were so many and there was nothing else to do so we got online and learned how to make jam and we made cases of peach jam.”
