➢ A homeless guy near San Francisco recently found a woman’s lost wallet and got it back to her.  So the woman’s granddaughter rewarded him by asking people to give him money for her birthday.  She ended up raising several hundred dollars.

Now there’s an update: Someone started a GoFundMe page for him that’s raised around $50,000.  (Here he is thanking people and talking about how appreciative he is.)

➢ Some people seem to take joy in torturing themselves. Mike Jack of London downed three Carolina reaper chilis—the hottest chili peppers in the world—in 9.72 seconds to break a world record. Guinness World Records shared  a video of the attempt taking place in London, Ontario. Per Guinness rules– each pepper weighed a minimum of 0.18 ounces, and Jack provided a certificate verifying that the peppers were in fact California reapers.

➢ Doctors in Japan say a man who accidentally ingested a toothpick had to deal with months of pain in his back and leg—all because the toothpick got stuck in his rectum. The 67-year-old man came in with back issues that doctors decided could be solved with surgery, but when they did a CT scan before the operation they found a 7-centimeter-long toothpick in his behind. Six days later the man’s leg pain got worse, and doctors removed the toothpick. After that, the man’s pain went away and never returned. The doctors theorize the toothpick must’ve ended up next to a branch of nerves in the spinal cord, causing enough pressure to account for the symptoms.

SETH ROGEN’s mom Sandy is kind of a legend on Twitter . . . so it’s not surprising that her press release for her son’s upcoming book is probably as much fun as the book itself.

Seth’s book is called “Yearbook”.  It’s not a memoir, but a collection of true stories from his life.  It’s coming out in May.

Here’s what Sandy had to say about it . . . quote, “If I’m being honest, I really wish there wasn’t so much drug talk.  Why does he need all that?  It’s like ‘We get it!’

“And some of the stories?  I mean, they’re entertaining, but I was just shocked they happened and he never told me!

“Overall, I think it’s more sweet and funny than anything, so I like it, and I’m glad he wrote it, but I’d be even more glad if he called me more.”

TODAY IS……………….

  • “Car Insurance Day”, which commemorates the first auto insurance policy, issued to one Truman Martin of Buffalo NY on this date in 1898. It cost $11.50 (96 cents if he paid monthly)

  • “Change Your Password Day”, an annual reminder that ‘123456′ is not keeping your data all that safe.

2015 [06] New England Patriots win Super Bowl 49, beating Seattle Seahawks 28-24; Patriots QB Tom Brady is named MVP and becomes 1 of only 3 quarterbacks to win 4 Super Bowls (he has won 2 more since…and maybe another this Sunday?)

SCIENCE NEWS……..

  1. There’s a planet 200 million light years from us that astronomers have had their eye on for a few years.  Now a team in Hawaii discovered it’s extremely light . . . about the same density as cotton candy.

  1. A new study on dinosaur eggs found newborn T-rexeswere probably pretty cute, around the same size as a golden retriever.  They had a full set of teeth though.

  1. Animal researchers in Budapest found that really smart dogscan learn a new word after hearing it just four times.  But most dogs aren’t so smart.  And even genius dogs will forget a new word after an hour if they don’t keep hearing it.

  1. Does this explain why full moonsare linked to weird behavior?  A new study at the University of Washington found we tend to go to bed later in the days leading up to a full moon.  So we’re operating on less sleep.  (We just had a full moon last week.)

  1. Researchers say clothing “smart” enough to turn gentle body movements into electricity could keep our phones charged while on the move. Nylon fibers, which produce electricity from simple body movements known as “swirl power,” could be useful at powering sensors and mobile devices. The electricity harvested from the fibers of this special clothing would be stored in a battery nestled in a pocket. The battery would be connected to a device either via a cable or wirelessly. Even the simplest movement, like swinging your arms, while wearing smart clothing would be enough to produce electricity for wearable electronics and portable devices.

Swearing may be a sign of honesty

Science has found a positive link between profanity and honesty.

People who cursed lied less on an interpersonal level, and had higher levels of integrity overall.

While a higher rate of profanity use was associated with more honesty, the study authors cautioned that “the findings should not be interpreted to mean that the more a person uses profanity, the less likely he or she would engage in more serious unethical or immoral behaviors.”

  1. So far this winter, parts of Texas have seen more snow than some major Canadian cities. While flakes are not uncommon there, some Texans are seeing accumulation bordering on once-in-a-generation amounts. In central Texas, 40cm (15.7 inches) of snowfall has been reported in the past few weeks. That contrasts with a dismally low snowfall in parts of Canada, with Ottawa logging 29cm (11.4 i) in the same time frame, Winnipeg 27cm (10.6 in.), and Edmonton seeing just 3.4cm (1.3 in.) of snowfall.

Congratulations to Tyler Farr and his wife, Hannah, who welcomed their first child, daughter Hollis Caroline, on Jan. 27th. Hollis arrived a full six weeks ahead of her due date. She weighed in at just under five pounds, and while she is doing well, she’ll remain in the hospital for a bit longer.

Tyler and Hannah told People.com that Hollis “is spending time in the (neonatal intensive care unit), but doing well,” adding, “We can’t wait to bring our girl home! Thank you to our doctors, nurses and everyone involved here at the hospital.”

KEITH URBAN HOPES FOR SOME WAY TO PERFORM LIVE THIS SPRING

Like all entertainers, Keith Urban is champing at the bit to get back on stage safely. Since last year, touring was predicted to resume in 2021, but as Keith tells us EXCLUSIVELY, the year is 12 months long and it might not be until late in 2021 if at all. [“It’s a long period, so I don’t know when touring is gonna come back in some form. I hope it’s soon. I hope the spring yields some way to do some kind of live performing cause I’ve got an album ready to go and I’ve never been off the stage this long in my life and I think I might’ve gone a little bit crazy if I didn’t have the studio to go and bury myself in the last handful of months.”]

JORDAN DAVIS TREASURES HIS ‘DAILY REMINDERS’ OF HIS GRANDFATHERS

Jordan Davis has two big role models in his life — his grandfathers — and he says that the keepsakes he has in his home are daily reminders to live like them. He tells us: [“I have a pair of my grandpa’s boots that are in the closet. I’ll never get rid of ‘em. I’ll never wear ‘em, but wherever I’m at, they’ll be in my closet. There’s a lot of stuff like that – there’s a picture of me and my (other) grandpa fishing. I think it’s kind of those things that kind of sparks those memories, just that daily reminder of they are my role models. I want to be like those guys. They were the best. That’s the kind of the person I want to be, and it’s good to have those two reminders every day when you walk past something.”]

Jordan continues climbing the charts with his Top 20 hit “Almost Maybes.”

“Almost Maybes” follows up three consecutive No. 1 songs – “Singles You Up,” “Take It From Me” and “Slow Dance in a Parking Lot.”
