➢ In his first year with the Tampa Bay BuccaneersTOM BRADY won his seventh Super Bowl . . . cruising past PATRICK MAHOMES and the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-9.  Brady also got his FIFTH Super Bowl MVP.

In fact, the only exciting moment was a fan who ran onto the field.  And radio listeners were treated to an exciting play-by-play by Kevin Harlan.  Clearly, he was dying to call something interesting.

➢ A group of cops in Paris are in trouble for breaking lockdown rules after they threw a going-away party for a colleague and were caught on video doing the Macarena.  (Here’s the chorus.)

➢Tulsa, Oklahoma is accepting applications again for its “Tulsa Remote” program where they pay people who work from home $10,000 to relocate there.  It’s the third year they’ve done it, and they only accept around 2% of applications.  It might be even more competitive this year because of the pandemic.  (Here’s an interview with one of the guys behind the program, and a guy who got accepted.)

➢ Christopher Plummer passed away on Friday at the age of 91.  He reportedly died of complications from a recent fall.  Plummer was best known as ‘Captain Von Trapp’ in The Sound of Music, but his career flourished later in life. He won an Oscar in 2012 for the film “Beginners”, and was also nominated in 2010 and 2018. He also won two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Bafta.

TODAY IS……………….

  • “Football Hangover Day”, it’s estimated nearly 14 million people call into work “sick” the day after the big game. For this reason, many feel the day after the Super Bowl should be declared a holiday.

  • “Opera Day”, for those who like listening to every word of a story being sung

– The first ‘modern’ opera was written in 1597.
– The longest opera ever written was Wagner’s “The Ring Cycle,” a grueling 15½ hours.
– For all the attention and publicity that it gets, only 3% of us have ever attended an opera.

ROLLING IN THE CHEAP:
A woman who has been nicknamed the “world’s tightest millionaire” says she never buys anything new and even eats cat food to save money. 50-year-old Aimee Elizabeth, of Las Vegas, is worth a whopping $5.3 million, but still takes pride in the fact that she knows how to stretch a buck.

Aimee, who appeared on TLC’s “Extreme Cheapskates,” gives herself a monthly spending budget of $1,000, and sticks to it by keeping her water heater turned off, only turning it on 22 minutes before her shower, to give it time to warm the water.

She figures that saves her $80 per month. Another of her genius money-saving hacks involves her ex-husband, from whom she won the house in their divorce. She (ahem!) “allows” him to clean her home for free so she can save a few hundred dollars per month on cleaners.

And yes, she confesses to eating cat food. Instead of buying tins of tuna, she says she saves 30 cents each by picking up cat food cans labelled “chicken and tuna in light gravy”. And, yes, she has fed it to guests.

GOOD NEWS

A former COVID patient in St. Louis who gave birth while she was in a coma has decided to make one of her nurses the baby’s godmother.

The patient’s name is Monique Jones, and the nurse is Caitlyn Obrock.

She had a C-section in September.  And they’ve obviously become very close since then.

This Week in Science:

  1. Sick of picking up dog poop?  Researchers at the University of Illinois found you can make your dog poop lessby feeding them human-grade dog food.  It’s easier to digest, and they eat less because it has more nutrients.  They say it can cut the amount of poop you’ll scoop by 66%.

  1. In other poop news:  Animal experts think they’ve figured out why wombats evolved to have cube-shaped feces.  They tend to climb on a lot of rocks and logs, and have to mark their territory.  And the cube shape prevents it from rolling off.

  1. Speaking of evolution:  Researchers at Harvard tweaked a single gene in zebrafish.  And it added new bones to their front fins that made them look more like LEGS.  They think it’s more proof of how quickly animals can evolveif they need to.

  1. We keep hearing that one of these days, we’ll all be eating cricketsand other bugs.  But a new study found that if you’re allergic to shellfish, there’s a good chance you’re allergic to cricket meat too.

Americans Now Spend $47 a Month on Streaming Services

Americans are now spending an average of $47 a month on streaming services.  That’s up 24% from last April, when we were spending $38 a month.

49% of Americans subscribe to FOUR streaming services . . . while 13% of us use SEVEN OR MORE.

Obviously, the pandemic has a lot to do with the increase . . . but the launch of several new platforms including HBO Max and Peacock helped.

Not surprisingly, Netflix is the #1 streaming service.  It’s followed by Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+, HBO Max, Peacock, and Apple TV+.

MONDAY FEBRUARY 8TH

  1. Different team . . . same old story.  In his first year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,

TOM BRADY won his seventh Super Bowl . . . cruising past PATRICK MAHOMES and the

Kansas City Chiefs, 31-9.  Brady also got his FIFTH Super Bowl MVP.

The second half was an unwelcome blend of BLAND and BORING . . . with the Chiefs forced to wave the white flag in the third quarter.  No one scored in the fourth, and Kansas City didn’t get into the endzone all game.

In fact, the only exciting moment was a fan who ran onto the field.  And radio listeners were treated to an exciting play-by-play by Kevin Harlan.  Clearly, he was dying to call something interesting. By the way, Brady will turn 44 in August, but he’s already said that he’s coming back.  As has Gronkowski.  And if you think he’s a long-shot to repeat at this stage in his career . . . that’s fair . . . but I wouldn’t bet against him.

  1. JENNIFER LAWRENCE got bloodied up on the set of her new comedy “Don’t Look Up”.  She was filming a scene with TIMOTHEE CHALAMET when a controlled explosion sent shards of glass flying. One of them cut Jennifer’s eyelid, and while it wasn’t that serious, it wouldn’t stop bleeding. In the movie, Jennifer and LEONARDO DICAPRIO play low-level scientists who discover that a meteor will strike the Earth in six months, but can’t get anyone to believe them.

  1. A group called the “Dull Men’s Club” released its 2021 calendar featuring the 12 dullest men in the world.  A guy in New Mexico named Johnnie Meier madethe list for collecting gas station memorabilia.  And he couldn’t be happier about it.

  1. Comedian Jim Gaffigan says it’s easier to be a guy.  Here’s why.

No winning ticket was sold for the $12 million jackpot in Saturday’s Lotto 649 draw.

However, the guaranteed $1 million prize was won by a ticket holder in Ontario.

The jackpot for the next Lotto 649 draw Wednesday will be approximately $15 million.

Miranda Lambert’s Airstream Trailer was Sideswiped, but She’s Okay

MIRANDA LAMBERT and her husband Brendan were towing their Airstream . . . which she calls The Sheriff . . . through Atlanta, Georgia last week when some jerk sideswiped them, and then “sped away.”

Brendon was driving and he pulled safely to the side of the road.  Miranda posted about it on Instagram, and here’s how she described the accident.

Quote, “Someone in a small car with temp plates was driving erratically and tried to squeeze between us and a semi-truck going 70.  It hit the airstream on the passenger side and sent us into the left lane.

“We fishtailed pretty good but got on the shoulder as quickly as possible to assess the damage.  Nobody was hurt, thank the good Lord.  We are so thankful that nothing worse happened.”  They filed a report and got back on the road.

Dolly Parton Says She Might Not Accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Can you imagine turning down the Presidential Medal of Freedom?  DOLLY PARTON can.  She may say NO to President Biden if he offers it to her.  Nothing personal, she just wants to be fair after turning down President Trump twice.

She talked about it in on “Today with Hoda and Jenna”.  They brought up President Obama admitting he screwed-up by not giving Dolly the medal, and then saying he’d call Joe Biden about it.  They asked if the call has come in.

She said, quote, “Well, I actually have to be honest in all fairness.  I got offered the freedom award from the Trump administration and I couldn’t accept it because my husband was ill.

“Then they asked me again about it and I wouldn’t travel because of the COVID, so now I feel like if I take it I’ll be doing politics.  So, I’m not sure.”

While we’re on the subject:  There’s a Dolly Parton class being taught at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.  The students study all things Dolly, including how her music addresses cultural issues like gender, class, and race.

RASCAL FLATTS MEMBERS KEEP MUSIC IN FUTURE PLANS

Despite their current success on the charts with “How They Remember You,” Rascal Flatts said 2021 would be the year their go their separate ways and that’s still the plan. Gary LeVox, Joe Don Rooney and Jay DeMarcus are all following their passions, which continue to be music-driven. [“I’m actually working on a solo record right now … and goat yoga.  It’s weird but there’s nothing to do and I own that farm, so I’m raising goats and we’ve got yoga goin’ on. (Joe Don) Well, I think there’s no doubt that we’ll all be doing some type of something in music because we all just … that’s our passion, it’s what we love.  For me I’m just continuing songwriting and that journey, which is just my favorite thing to do. (Jay) I opened a Christian record label two years ago called Red Street Records, and so, I’m really devoting a lot of time to that.  So, we’re not slowing down (laughs).”]
