On Today’s Show

➢ A 70-year-old woman has been working at the same KFC in Toronto for 46 YEARS.  So a guy who’s been going there since he was a kid decided to raise money for her online.  Last we checked, it was up over $20,000.  (Here’s Jason Schweitzer talking about why he wanted to do something nice for her.)

➢ Here’s a toddler and a baby goat taking turns shouting at each other.  Bet you can’t tell which is which.  Check it out, here.

➢ A Kentucky animal shelter is raising funds by offering jilted lovers the chance to have cats do their business on the names of their exes. The Lexington Humane Society says donors can pay $10 to get some “retripootion” for their broken hearts by having their ex’s names inscribed on the inside of litter boxes to be used by the shelter’s cats. In a Facebook post, the shelter said: “Cats can be spiteful creatures, and trust us, they are more than happy to take a #2 on your former #1.” The “Dumps for the Dumped” promotion ends on Friday, but the litter boxes will remain in place until Feb. 15 to ensure they get plenty of use on Valentine’s Day.

➢ Is snow safe to eat? One professor says most snow is just as clean as any drinking water, and snowflakes have a harder time picking up soot and other air pollutants as they fall compared to raindrops. Once snow hits the ground, it stays clean until other things land on top of it.

Once snow is on the ground it goes through a process called dry deposition, in which dust and dirt particles stick to the snow—so don’t eat brown snow. You should also avoid yellow snow, and even pink snow, as it’s filled with algae that aren’t good for digestion.

➢ Suzanne Somers got quite the scare Friday when her Facebook Live was interrupted by a home intruder. She was filming a makeup video when a man entered her Palm Springs, Calif. home. Somers and her husband Alan Hamel played it cool as they attempted to find out what the intruder wanted, as followers watched in real time. The man, who said he was lost, said he was “not a scary person whatsoever.” Somers told him he “seemed like a nice person,” but needed to leave, and the man said “God bless you” before leaving the property. Police later caught up with the intruder and advised him not to trespass on private property, and didn’t lay any charges.

Five Ways to Keep Your Eyes Healthy While Working from Home

With more and more of us working from home and staring at computers all day, it’s important to start thinking about eye health.  A recent survey of 2,000 adults found a third had eye strain complaints by the end of their workday.

Here are five ways to keep your eyes healthy while working from home . . .

  1. Move so you’re closer to a window.  More natural light helps.
  1. Set alarms to take regular screen breaks.  Remember the 20-20-20 rule.  That’s where you stare at something that’s 20 feet away for 20 seconds, every 20 minutes.
  1. Use eye drops.  Just check the label and make sure you don’t overuse them.  Especially if they’re prescription eye drops.
  1. Have a good desk lamp for when the light isn’t good.  Poor lighting can cause headaches, irritability, and even make you less productive.
  1. Stay about two feet from your computer screen.  Any closer than that is harder on your eyes.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. The 1956 Summer Olympics were held in Melbourne, Australia and Stockholm, Sweden.  Stockholm was chosen to hold equestrian events because horses couldn’t be brought into Australia under quarantine regulations.
  1. Flamin’ Hot Cheetos were invented by a janitor named Richard Montanez at Frito-Lay’s Rancho Cucamonga, California plant.  Since then, he’s worked his way up to running PepsiCo’s Multicultural Sales and Community Promotions division.
  1. Jackie Chanis a classically trained opera singer and he’s released more than 20 albums.
  1. Paula Abdul’sdebut album “Forever Your Girl” had the longest time between its debut and hitting number one on the Billboard charts.  It was released in June of 1988 and hit number one 64 weeks later, in October of 1989.

GOOD NEWS

The Associated Press talked to a nurse practitioner named Sigrid Stokes who’s vaccinating people in California.

She’s 76 but didn’t let the pandemic force her into retirement.

And they talked to her because her mom was also a nurse who went into medicine after caring for Spanish flu patients in 1918.

What Movie Makes You Cry No Matter How Many Times You’ve Seen It?

Is there a movie that ALWAYS makes you cry . . . no matter how many times you’ve seen it?  Someone posed that question on Twitter this weekend, and it went viral.

The original poster said these four do it for him:  “Apollo 13”“Big Fish”“The Green Mile”, and “Saving Private Ryan”.  But hundreds of others added THEIR top tear-inducing flicks.

For starters, a couple celebrities weighed in.  Nancy Sinatra suggested the 1944 movie “Since You Went Away” with Shirley Temple and Claudette Colbert.

Patricia Arquette added the 1976 version of “A Star Is Born” with Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand“Splendor in the Grass”“Sunrise”, and “Reds”.

Other highlights from regular people include . . .

“Cider House Rules”“The Bridges of Madison County”“The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”“Ordinary People”“Crooklyn”“Grave of the Fireflies”“Beaches”“E.T.”“My Girl”“Titanic”“Harold and Maude” . . .

The second, third, and fourth “Toy Story” movies, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”“The Notebook”“The Color Purple”“Moonlight”“12 Years a Slave”“West Side Story”“The Fault in Our Stars” . . .

“Bicentennial Man”“Up”“Terms of Endearment”“Mr. Holland’s Opus”“Schindler’s List”“Marley and Me” . . . and someone else said, quote, “Any movie that includes a dog.  Any of them.  All of them.”

Many of these movies were mentioned multiple times, but “Steel Magnolias” was supposedly mentioned so often that the movie started TRENDING on Twitter.

STUDY: TO SLEEP BETTER, LIFT MORE WEIGHTS

Insomnia is no fun, and a new study finds you can increase your odds of sleeping well if you do some strength training. Researchers looked at a number of adults in Germany, and found that any muscle-strengthening done during a typical week was associated with a reduced prevalence of sleep rated as “poor” or “very poor.”

This association also held even when researchers controlled for things like high body mass index, chronic disease, age, and smoking. Also, there was no evidence of a dose-dependent relationship, so more was not necessarily better.

Those who did resistance training just once a week still had a similar, favourable association in sleep quality compared to those who did this type of training more often, even those who strength-trained five times a week.

Morgan Wallen Posted a Five-Minute Apology Video on Instagram

MORGAN WALLEN posted a five-minute video yesterday on Instagram where he owned-up to his actions, but did not ask for forgiveness, because he doesn’t believe he deserves it.  Here are a few other things he said.

The video we saw was him on “hour 72” of a bender . . . and since then he’s been sober.  He waited on making this statement until he could apologize to all the people he’s let down, especially his parents and his son.

He accepted invitations “from amazing black organizations and leaders.”  Quote, “I heard first-hand personal stories from black people that shook me.  I know that what I’m going through this week doesn’t even compare to the trials I heard about from them.”

He came away from those meetings with a deeper and clearer understanding of the weight of his words.  Quote, “Our actions matter, our words matter, so please learn from my mistake.  There’s no reason to downplay what I did.”

He’s going to be off the grid for a while so he can get back in control of his habit and start living healthy, and being proud of his actions.

As for those who’ve come to his defense, there’s this:  Quote “Lastly, I appreciate those who have defended me but for today, please don’t.  I was wrong.  It’s on me to take ownership of this and I fully accept any penalties I face.”

TIM McGRAW SAYS BEING IN THE STUDIO WITH TYLER HUBBARD BROUGHT ‘ENERGY’

Technology offers artists the ability to record songs together without ever having to step foot in the same room, and that has been helpful during COVID, however Tim McGraw and FGL‘s Tyler Hubbard thought it was important that they be together in the studio when they recorded their duet, “Undivided.” Tim tells us: [“Yeah there’s nothing like the energy, and you can see that in the video, the energy that we had and the fun we were having doing it. And especially this song in particular, I think this song lent itself to us being together in the studio, if nothing else, but for the title of the song.  But the energy of the song I think really needed that. And I think that it really paid off in spades. I mean, I’m sure it would’ve worked any other way that we had done it because this song is so great.  But to be there together in the studio and really vibe off of each other made a huge difference I think in how it turned out.”]

“Undivided” will be included on the Deluxe version of Tim’s latest album, Here On Earth, which will be released sometime this spring.
