On Today’s Show
April 5, 2021 9:35 am➢ The world might be facing a coffee shortage because of the pandemic. Not because we’ve drank so much . . . because the pandemic affected how many shipping containers were available around the world.
➢ Did you hate eating Brussels sprouts when you were growing up? You had a reason. Believe it or not, the Brussels sprouts we ate in the ’90s and earlier were more BITTER than the ones we eat today. It turns out that in the ’90s, some scientists in the Netherlands finally figured out what chemical compounds made Brussels sprouts SO bitter. So they were able to cross-pollenate some seeds without those compounds to grow ones that tasted better. And that’s what we still eat today.
➢ A 58-year-old woman in Kansas pulled an April Fools’ Day prank on her daughter yesterday morning . . . she called her daughter and said she’d been shot. So her daughter called the cops, and they surrounded the woman’s house. The woman was arrested for unlawful request for emergency service assistance. (Here’s Police spokesperson Charley Davidson on why this was a bad idea.)
➢ A “Wheel of Fortune” contestant got burned doing a crossword-style puzzle last week. The answer is a list of four words . . . and when people solve it, they often add an “and” before the last one, which isn’t allowed. Now, fans are calling for the show to relax its rules.
TODAY IS……………….
- “Easter Monday”, celebrated in many ways in many places, including …
– In Canada, it’s a federal government holiday and a school holiday, in most areas.
– In Hallaton UK, they hold the ancient ritual of “Bottle Kicking”, an Easter Monday tradition for over 600 years. How appropriate they try to ‘kick the bottle’ during Alcohol Awareness Month!

Her name is Lilly Bumpus. She sold them outside her house, and online.

SCIENCE NEWS

- In other space news: A company called Orbital Assembly is planning the first space hotel. They hope to start building in 2025, and say it could open in 2027. It’ll be big enough for 280 guests at a time, and a three-night stay will costabout $5 million.

- And two sports studies were in the news: Researchers in the U.K. say they’ve come up with a saliva test that can accurately tell if you have a concussion. And a study at the University of Kansas found that most sports fans would rather root for a teambuilt from scratch than one that just spends money to sign big players.

Symptoms That Might Just Be Signs You’re Dehydrated
The next time you have a headache, you might not need Advil. Or, go ahead and take it . . . but chase it with a FULL glass of water.
A new poll looked at what we normally do to deal with symptoms that might just be signs you’re dehydrated.
- Headaches. 43% said they usually just take a painkiller. Only 1 in 6 drink water.
- Feeling dizzy. 45% lie down . . . 20% close their eyes . . . and water is third at 18%.
- Constantly feeling tired. Lying down and napping are the most common ways we deal with
- Only 15% hydrate.
- Dry mouth. With that one, drinking water IS the #1 thing we do . . . because duh.
- Constipation. Water is #1 again, but only half do it. Taking meds is next at 14%.
- Indigestion. 42% said they drink water. 19% usually take medication.
The poll also found the average person thinks they only need to add one extra, eight-ounce glass of water a day to their diet. But they really need at least FOUR more glasses. And the top reason we don’t drink more water is . . . we forget to.

Travis Denning on Dating John Michael Montgomery’s Daughter
You probably know that TRAVIS DENNING’s song “ABBY”, is NOT about a girl named Abby. It’s an acronym that stands for “Any Body But You.” Been there? Me too. Both sides, I think.
But let’s talk about a real girl in Travis’ life. Her name is Madison and they’ve been dating a couple of years. She’s the daughter of ’90s country star John Michael Montgomery so, naturally, he gets asked about that a lot.
In a recent interview he said the best part is that she understands he travels a lot for his job, because she grew up with a dad who did the same. He was also asked if her dad gives him career advice. Yes. But pops always changes the subject.
Quote, “Every conversation ultimately turns into a fishing conversation. He’s like ‘Hey that’s congrats, so, did you get that new transducer on the front of your boat?’ I’m like ‘oh yeah, I did.’ And then we just talk about that.”

LUKE COMBS WRITES, SHARES SONG INSPIRED BY BEER-DRINKING FAN
Luke Combs has shared a brand new song that he wrote specifically for a fan who tweeted him recently. The newly-married fan, named Billy McKee, tweeted a picture from his wedding over the weekend showing himself surrounded by his eight groomsmen and they’re all drinking Miller Lites. McKee is down on one knee with the beer box on his head. He tagged both Combs and Miller Lite in the tweet. On Monday (March 29th), Combs replied with a brand new song called “We Still Drink Beer.”
Combs replied, “Hell yeah! My kinda folk. Congrats and drink another one for me.” Later in the day he tweeted, “One small sip for man, cold cans for all mankind. “We Still Drink Beer,” tagging McKee and posting a video of himself with co-writers Dan and Reid Isbell. Combs explained that the three had been together writing for Combs’ third album when he discovered McKee’s tweet and said he was the inspiration for the song. McKee is even referred to in the song’s lyrics as “beer box-headed guy.”
Combs’ latest single, “Forever After All,” is a current Top 30 hit at country radio.

Eric Church Calls Vaccines “A God Sent Miracle”
Good news for ERIC CHURCH. He didn’t have to take the vaccine in the eyeball to get back onstage. He’s on the cover of “Billboard” getting his second shot in the arm, and he’s thanking heaven above for it.
Quote, “I view [the vaccine] as a God sent miracle. It’s clear to me that the only way to get back to normal is the vaccinations. You’ve got to get needles in arms.”
That doesn’t mean he thinks you have to do it too. Quote, “If you believe you shouldn’t get the shot, I don’t have a problem with it. I’m a liberty guy, too. I get it . But I view this differently than most other things. We’ve never encountered this.”
He sees the vaccine as healing us physically and mentally. Quote, “The hardest thing about COVID is that it takes away what you do.
“[Those] things that unite us are music and sports. They’re the times when, whether you’re a Democrat or Republican or whatever, you throw your arm around the person next to you. We become one. We need that. I need that.”
