On Today’s Show
April 28, 2021 9:35 am➢ A woman in North Carolina was buying baked beans at Target last week when a LIVE SNAKE slithered across the shelf. Fortunately, it wasn’t a venomous snake . . . but still.
➢ An Australian man by the name of Alex White says he thought he was seeing a huge worm wiggling in the plastic-wrapped lettuce — until a snake tongue flicked. Authorities say a venomous pale-headed snake made the nearly 900-kilometre journey to Sydney from a packing plant wrapped with the lettuce. The supermarket is investigating how the dangerous reptile found its way in.
➢ An “artist” on Twitch named Tim Inzana has been living in a shed for 100 days without leaving, and says he’ll stay there for another five years if someone buys it as “art.” For $5 million, he’ll stay in the shed and livestream himself to a framed TV they’d hang on their wall. Up to 20 people can buy frames.
➢ A 39-year-old woman in England got pregnant while she was ALREADY pregnant. Her name is Rebecca Roberts, and her husband’s name is Rhys. It’s a rare phenomenon called “superfetation twins,” where one of Rebecca’s eggs was fertilized, and then another was fertilized three weeks later. Their twins Noah and Rosalie recently turned six months ol
➢ Remember “Night Court”? Well, NBC is developing a SEQUEL series.
John Larroquette will be back as attorney Dan Fielding . . . but Harry Anderson won’t be able to reprise his role as Judge Harry Stone, because he died in 2018.
Instead, the show will be about his daughter, Judge Abby Stone, who’s followed in his footsteps. The original ran for nine seasons, from 1984 to 1992. Larroquette won four Emmys, and the show was nominated for Outstanding Comedy three times.

Things We Want in Our “Home of the Future”
A study last week found dedicated “Zoom rooms” are the new feature people want when they buy a house. But what if we look a little farther in to the future?
A poll asked people to name the top high-tech features they’d love to have in their home, even if they’re not possible yet. Here are ten we thought were interesting . . .
- Windows that tint automatically. So you don’t have to use shades.
- A smart heating system that adjusts automatically depending on how you use the room, and whether or not you’re in it.
- Soundproof walls.
- Lights that adjust automatically depending on the time of day.
- Door locks that use your fingerprint.
- A garage that charges your electric car just by parking on a giant pad.
- An oven that allows different shelves to be different temperatures at the same time.
- A fridge that automatically orders things when you’re running out.
- Shower heads with built-in Bluetooth that lets you make phone calls.
- A hologram assistant that reminds you to do stuff.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS
- Ireland won its first Olympic medals in 1924 . . . a silver in the PAINTING competition and a bronze in LITERATURE. Obviously both of those competitions aren’t part of the Olympics anymore.
- The sounds from crunchy foods are actually tiny sonic booms, because the food is breaking up at the speed of sound.
- The USPS made stamps with the Statue of Liberty in 2011. But the picture they used was of the Statue of Liberty outside New York, New York Casino in Las Vegas. It’s not clear if it was an accident, or they just used it because it was a better photo.
- Katy Perry’s Mother once dated Jimi Hendrix.

GOOD NEWS
There’s a 22-year-old guy named Josh Swain in Lincoln, Nebraska. And last year, he sent a message on Facebook to pretty much everyone named Josh he could find in the area . . . to invite them to a JOSH FIGHT on Saturday, April 24th, 2021 at noon.
The message got a bit of a viral boost, and on Saturday, DOZENS of Joshes actually showed up to participate in the Josh Fight.
Most of them wore costumes and they all fought with pool noodles.
The last Josh standing at the end was a four-year-old kid who everyone was calling Little Josh. He got a Burger King crown and a wrestling title belt.
Attendees of the brawl donated 200 to 300 pounds of food for the Food Bank of Lincoln and raised $8,000 for the Children’s Hospital and Medical Center Foundation in Omaha.
The four-year-old who won the Battle of the Joshes this past weekend in Nebraska now has a “life-changing” fund to help send him to a prestigious university.
His newfound army of fans want him to go to an Ivy League university and set up a GoFundMe for him. The Super Mario fan, who has four siblings, had to overcome seizures as a child and his father, Josh Vinson Sr., has joined the GoFundMe push, which he says will help his son overcome his “humble” background.

Burglar Accidentally Shoots Himself in the Leg Trying to Kick in a Door
This feels like some instant karma right here.
Last week, two guys tried to break into a house in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the middle of the night by kicking in the front door. But . . . as they were kicking in the door, one of them accidentally SHOT HIMSELF in the thigh with the gun in his pocket.
And we know that’s what happened, because the entire thing was caught on video by the Ring doorbell camera at the house.
The guys ran off right after that.
Later that night, the guy who shot himself went to the hospital . . . where he was arrested. Police are still trying to find the other guy.
Guy Stole a Police Webcam on His Way Out of Jail
You’d think the time when someone WOULDN’T want to commit a crime is when they were finally getting out of jail. You’d think.
There’s a 35-year-old guy named Steven Moran from Vero Beach, Florida. And he was arrested last month for criminal mischief and taken to county jail.
He got out on a $1,000 bond. And while he was in the booking area getting discharged . . . he stole a WEBCAM off one of the jail computers and slipped it in his pocket.
When the jail realized the camera was missing, the police investigated . . . and figured out Steven stole it as he was being discharged.
So he was arrested on Thursday for theft. He got out on bond again . . . and as far as we know, this time, he didn’t steal any souvenirs on his way out.

SOME ‘THING’ TO TALK ABOUT:
In June, a new kind of library will open in London, ON. A “Thing Library”. The idea is that you can borrow items that you need to use, rather than having to purchase them.
The library-style service will provide hobbyists, bakers and amateur remodelers crowd-sourced tools in an effort to reduce waste and save people money. The London Thing Library will run on a membership model, where patrons pay a monthly fee for access to the library’s inventory. It will also focus on teaching people new skills, like how to dehydrate your own food or make repairs through workshops.
At this point, the enterprise is asking for donations to build up inventory. Among the items they’re requesting are bike repair tools, a pressure washer, camping chairs and cookie decorating supplies.

Actors Who Fought Hard to Get a Role . . . And Now It’s Iconic
- Lady Gaga in “A Star Is Born”. Bradley Cooper wanted Gaga the whole time, but the studio didn’t. She ended up getting an Oscar nomination.
- Aaron Paul in “Breaking Bad”. The show’s creator Vince Gilligan wanted Aaron, but no one else liked him at first. He ended up winning three Emmys.
- Jennifer Lawrence in “Winter’s Bone”. The producers were worried Jennifer was “too pretty” for the role, but they relented because, well, Hollywood. She scored an Oscar nomination for the role.
- Patrick Swayze in “Ghost”. The director wanted Harrison Ford, but Patrick fought for it because he loved the script.
- Whoopi Goldberg in “Ghost”. The director wanted Tina Turner, but Patrick fought for Whoopi, and she ended up winning an Oscar.
- Marlon Brando in “The Godfather”. Francis Ford Coppola had to beg the studio to give Marlon a screen test. And during it, he took a phone call, in character, and that apparently helped catapult him into the role.
- Kate Winslet in “Titanic”. Kate called James Cameron and said he’d be “mad” not to cast her. He said she’d be mad to not make room for Jack on the door. Just kidding, but that would’ve been funny. Kate was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe.
- Taylor Lautner in “Twilight: New Moon”. Taylor was scrawny in the first movie, and they were going to replace him. But he spent months bulking up and eventually convinced the director that he could play a muscular character.
- Ryan Reynolds in “Deadpool”. He fought for 11 years to get a solo “Deadpool” movie made.

- Maren Morris – had a cheeky response when The Sun erroneously wrote that she “gave birth to her first child with husband Luke Bryan in March 2020.” The problem? Morris is married to country musician Ryan Hurd. With a crying-laughing emoji, she posted a screenshot of the article with the words: “I guess the cat’s outta the bag @lukebryan.”
- Brad Paisley – will headline Nashville’s 2021 4th of July celebration, which will be a full-audience event. THOMAS RHETT ON HIS EARLY CAREER: ‘ALL I WANTED TO BE WAS ERIC CHURCH’
When Thomas Rhett first arrived on the Country music scene, he was having a bit of an identity crisis. Over time, he developed his own distinct style and sound, but he tells us that early on, he “crashed and burned,” to borrow one of his song titles, by trying to be someone he wasn’t. [“I remember going back into like my very first album and all I wanted to be was Eric Church, you know, like minus the sunglasses, I wanted to be Eric Church. I used Eric’s producer. I tried to sing like him, and then I remember my first two singles that came out did not do anything at all.”]
We all know that changed for Thomas, who recently charted his 7th career No. One single and 11th consecutive No. One with “What’s Your Country Song.”
Thomas’ fifth studio double album, Country Again: Side A, will be released on Friday (April 30th).
