On Today’s Show
May 7, 2021 9:35 am➢ The Make-A-Wish Foundation recently offered a wish to a five-year-old in Missouri named Grayson Nunley who’s fighting leukemia. And he decided to use his wish to help OTHER sick kids. He spent 20 days in the hospital, and asked them to buy more-comfortable sheets for the beds, so other kids would have an easier time. His mom says she asked over and over if it’s really what he wants to do with his wish.
➢ Zoe Roth, who became famously known as “Disaster Girl when a photo taken by her dad of her grinning at the site of a house on fire became a viral meme, has become a rich 21-year-old after selling the meme as an NFT (non-fungible token) for $430,000. How did the pic come about? In 2005, the Roth family lived 2 blocks away from a fire station, and one day when firemen were practicing putting out a controlled fire, Zoe’s dad thought it would be the perfect time to test out his new camera.

➢ Remember the classic “David After Dentist” video, where a seven-year-old kid was all drugged up after he had a tooth pulled? Well, he’s a 20-year-old college student now, and he’s selling the video online as an NFT, or “non-fungible token.” (Here’s the full “David After Dentist” audio.)
➢ So, how good do you think you are? According to a new survey, almost half of people say that they are the best person they know. Taking it a step further 81% also feel that humankind is inherently good and three out of four believe that they’re fundamentally a good person.
TODAY IS……………….

• “Mother’s Day”, in some 60 countries including Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy, New Zealand, Turkey, and the USA. The modern holiday of Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at a church in Grafton, West Virginia. In a normal year, more North Americans eat out on “Mother’s Day” than any other special occasion.

Four Things You Can Do in Under Ten Minutes to Increase Your Happiness . . . For Free
It’s Friday! If that’s not a good enough reason to be excited today, here are four things you can do to feel happier. And the best part is, they all take less than 10 minutes, and they’re FREE . . .
- Message someone you know. Reach out to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. Even if it’s just to send them a funny photo or a fun memory that you had.
- Organize your errands. Organize all the small errands you need to do and start checking them off. Planning like that helps reduce procrastination so we feel less stressed out.
- Check your vacation day balance. Knowing how many days you have and thinking about what you may do with them allows you to visualize ACTUALLY taking a vacation.
- Watch relaxing videos. When you have a spare couple minutes, try watching some relaxing
videos on the internet. Nature videos are especially good for this.
A recent study out of UC Berkeley found that people who watched parts of that BBC series “Planet Earth” felt an increase in joy, amusement, and curiosity. And the videos also reduced feelings of fatigue, anger, and stress.

MOTHER’S DAY GIFT IDEAS (that you can do even during quarantine):
☞ Make her breakfast in bed: Yes, it’s an oldie but a goodie, but it’s a great way for mom to kickstart her day. Make breakfast as a family while she sleeps, then present it to her along with gifts and a card.
☞ Host a virtual Mother’s Day celebration: If you can’t be with her, meet via Zoom or Skype and bring the party to mom. You can play a game, ask attendees to bake a Mother’s Day cake beforehand, and have Mom open up her Mother’s Day presents in front of everyone.
☞ Clean house: Take something off her to-do list by cleaning house, or handling any of the chores that others depend on her for. Keep it up, even after Mother’s Day.
☞ Set up a scrapbooking session: Better than digital! Buy a scrapbook, print off pics of a family trip or just a few favorites you know mom loves, then get to work. Not only will she enjoy the keepsake, but she’ll definitely love reminiscing.
☞ At home spa: Let her relax and focus on self-care. Set up an at-home spa…it could be a bath, an elaborate skincare routine, or a massage. Let her relax in a spa-like environment from the safety and comfort of her own home.

Here’s How Often People Call Their Mom . . . And Also What They Call Her
Maybe you’re planning to talk to your mom on Sunday. And apparently, for about 1.5% of you . . . that’s the only time you’ll talk to her this year.
Just in time for Mother’s Day, a new survey asked people how often they call or text their mom. And of the people whose moms are still with us, the most common answers are daily or a few times a week. Both of those got 30% of the vote.
7.5% of people talk to their moms monthly . . . 1.5% talk to their mom twice a year . . . 1.5% once a year . . . and 7.5% say less than once a year or never.
So when you call your mom . . . WHAT do you call your mom?
The survey found the most common answer by far is mom, at 48.5%.
12% of adults still use mommy . . . 10% use mother . . . 10% use mama . . . and 7% use ma. And then there are 3% of disrespectful punks who call their mom by her first name.

CHRIS YOUNG MAKES SURE MOM ‘FEELS THE LOVE’ ON MOTHER’S DAY
Mother’s Day has become more important for Chris Young since becoming an adult. He tells us he now realizes how special his mom is and was, and makes sure he celebrates her on Sunday (May 9th).
[“When I was growing up we didn’t have a whole lot of money to go do stuff, and we kind of never realize that this kids. So, it made me realize just about being cheesy how special a parent that I had because of the time she was a single mom, and she was absolutely amazing — still is — so, we always make sure that she feels the love on Mother’s Day for sure.”]
Chris is making his way up the charts with his latest single, “Famous Friends,” featuring Kane Brown. The two recently performed the song on the ACM Awards.

GARTH BROOKS CRIED FIRST TIME HE HEARD ‘MOM’
Garth Brooks always gets a huge response when he plays his song, “Mom,” to a live audience. He didn’t write it himself, but it reflects how he feels about his mom. Garth tells us about the first time he heard it: [“I was by myself in Oklahoma…sat around the dining room table and just cried like a baby. ‘Cause I love my mom, but it’s also pretty cool because when you have your kid, you’re everything, right? And, so, sometimes you have to be Mom; sometimes you have to be Dad. So that song just kills me.”]

Tickets for Garth’s Salt Lake City concert go on sale today (May 6.)
His mom, Colleen recorded music in the 1950’s. She passed away in 1999.

KENNY CHESNEY SAYS HIS MOM HAS ‘A LOT OF GRACE’
Kenny Chesney fans know that his mom has been there for him through-out his life and he talks about her often. He says that he’s leaned valuable lessons from her. Kenny tells us more: [“I think one of the most important lessons that I’ve learned from my mom is just, no matter what life throws at you, is just to take a step back and a deep breath and just still take life as it comes. She’s been through a lot in her life. And she’s handled it. And she’s come through it, I believe, with a lot of grace…and a lot of style. And I’ve learned a lot from that. She has taught me a lot directly and indirectly. And she’s a hard worker, but she loves life. And I thank God that I got my love of life from her.”]

THOMAS RHETT PLAYS FIRST SHOWS SINCE PANDEMIC, CELEBRATES MOTHER’S DAY
Thomas Rhett kicked off Mother’s Day Weekend last night (Thursday, May 6th) with the first of three shows in three days at Billy Bob’s Texas. These are Thomas’ first concerts since the quarantine last year, and while he’s excited to hit the stage, he’s just as excited to have his wife and three daughters with him.
On Sunday (May 9th), Thomas and family will fly back to Nashville together and celebrate his wife, Lauren, his own mom and his mother-in-law on Mother’s Day. He tells us: [“This Mother’s Day is just special, just gettin’ to watch my wife be a mom to three babies, and how much work it is just being, not only a parent, but being a mother to three girls. Like, I just watch my wife sometimes. I’m like, ‘I don’t know how you do this. I don’t know how you do this with such grace.’ I’ve said this before, but she’s my superhero, and somebody that I just get to learn from every day – and also getting to watch Lauren’s mom and my mom. I think when you have kids, you have this whole other sense of just gratefulness for everything that your mom did for you growing up, and realizing how many times she wanted to just rip your head off and she didn’t. And so, I love Mother’s Day and I love gettin’ to celebrate all of our moms.”]
Thomas sits in the Top 25 and climbing with his latest single, “Country Again.” The song is included on his new project, Country Again: Side A, which was released on April 30th.
