Early on the morning of May 26th, the Blood Moon, named for its red glow, will be visible from North America. According to NASA, the Blood Moon is visible during a total lunar eclipse when the Earth aligns itself between the moon and the sun.

Notably, this Blood Moon will be a combination of May’s full Flower Moon, which is classified as a supermoon, and a total lunar eclipse.

The following supermoon, the “Strawberry Moon” will be visible on June 24th, and there are three more eclipses scheduled to take place before 2022.

Goodwill would like to thank people for all the donations in the past year . . . but also, please stop donating TRASH.  They have to pay to throw out stuff that can’t be sold, and they’ve gotten a lot of it recently.  (Here’s Heather Steeves of Goodwill Northern New England.)

A new study shows that 53% of people wouldn’t date someone who likes their steak cooked differently than they do.  Only 10% of people like their steak well-done… and apparently they’re bound to be lonely forever.

“F9,” the ninth installment in the “Fast & Furious” franchise, doesn’t open in North American theaters until June 25, but it’s already off to a hot start at the box office. The film, which stars Vin Diesel as the street racer turned master thief turned super spy, took in $162.4 million internationally over the weekend. Of that total, $135.6 million came from China — the biggest movie market in the world. That marks the biggest opening for a Hollywood film during the pandemic so far. “F9’s” solid performance is welcome news for a movie theater industry looking to rebound after a horrible year.

➢ If you want to impress your guests with expensive wine but can’t afford it, lie to them about the price of the cheap stuff. A new study found what deep down we already kind-of knew:  the more we think a wine costs, the better we think it tastes.

The researchers tested volunteers with three Italian red wines. When the cheapest wine was given falsely-high pricing, it was judged the most pleasant of the three. The researchers say “deceptive up-pricing of low-price wine significantly influenced ratings for pleasantness. . . [so] subjective experience may lie in the price.”

TODAY IS……………….

  • “Wine Day”, in moderation, wine not only fights heart disease but has other health benefits. It can also help fight type II diabetes, stroke, some cancers, high cholesterol, and even liver disease. In general, red wines are healthier than white wines.

GOOD NEWS

Three months ago, a police officer named Jon Holt was named the Top Cop in eastern Virginia.

And then earlier this month, he lived up to the title . . . by lifting a car off a woman who got pinned in a wreck.

The car flipped during the crash, and she was conscious.

But her HEAD was pinned by the sunroof, and she couldn’t breathe.  Jon was the first on scene, and decided there wasn’t enough time to wait.

So he used all his strength . . . managed to move the car just enough to get her out . . . and his chest-cam got it on video.

146 Have Hit the Lottery Thanks to Fortune Cookies . . .

Since 2004, at least 146 Americans have hit the lottery using numbers they got from FORTUNE COOKIES.  And 93% of them hit for $100,000 or more.

The 146 tickets won a total of $406 MILLION.  So that’s an average of around $2.8 million each.

Most states have at least one lottery winner who got their numbers from a fortune cookie.  But South Carolina ranks first with 15 winning tickets.  Then Pennsylvania with 13, and Tennessee with 12.

This is all according to a fortune cookie marketing company called OpenFortune.  And they also revealed which fortune cookie numbers have been the LUCKIEST.

The six numbers associated with the most winners are:  4, 14, 15, 22, 26 and 28.

STUDY: TAKING A HOT BATH COULD BE KEY TO EASING DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY

Taking a nice, hot bath could be the key to easing depression, science says so.

A 1995 study found that using heated coils to heat up patients with severe depression to about a body temperature of 101.84 degrees Fahrenheit helped 60 percent of patients feel better, and 40 percent met the criteria for remission from their depression after just one session.

There were two main theories as to why this might work:

1) depression has been associated with high levels of general inflammation in the body—so heat may increase levels of anti-inflammatory compounds, and

2) the sensation of heating the body relaxes patients, making them less prone to negative thoughts.

Now researchers in Canada are testing the theory once again, and experts are excited because they say it’s great to find natural ways of decreasing inflammation, without anti-inflammatory medications.

GARTH BROOKS SAYS HE’S THE ‘WEAK LINK IN THE CHAIN’ AT KENNEDY CENTER HONORS

Garth Brooks received his medallion at the Kennedy Center Honors on Friday (May 21st) in Washington, D.C. He was surrounded by his fellow 2020 honorees including Debbie Allen, folk singer and activist Joan Baez, violin virtuoso Midori, and actor Dick Van Dyke at the event which was delayed from last year due to Covid.

Friday’s event was held at the Kennedy Center’s Opera House and was hosted by prior recipient Gloria Estefan. Upon receiving his honor, Garth told the crowd: [“An award is only as good as the names that are on it. That’s it. When you walk in that door and you see the list of names and then you sit in this group and get to be a part of this…pretty cool (Debbie Allen laughs), you know? And for the first time in my life, I don’t mind being the weak link in the chain. I’m in the chain – that’s it. This is a cool thing. Just feel very, very lucky.”]

The Kennedy Center Honors will air on CBS on June 6th.
