On Today’s Show
May 28, 2021 9:35 am➢ A Texas woman is getting heat after recording herself entering the spider monkey enclosure at the El Paso Zoo and feeding them Hot Cheetos.
Luckily, the woman wasn’t hurt, and the monkeys will probably be okay. A zookeeper said the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos could cause stomach issues and bowel disruptions though.
The director of the zoo called it “stupid,” and said they plan to press charges. They also have to install a higher fence now to make sure no one else tries it.
She worked at a law firm and her boss recognized her from a video someone posted online and she’s been FIRED.
➢ Social media can be blamed for this. A birthday party invitation went viral with a now deleted video on TikTok last weekend. It resulted in a huge celebration in Huntington Beach, California. The hashtag “AdriansKickBack” got more than 180 million views on TikTok.
Police estimate that at least 2,500 people gathered at the beach before moving to the downtown area. Videos showed fistfights breaking out, people jumping off bridges atop slow-moving cars as well as shooting off fireworks. Nearly 150 people were arrested, including 121 adults and 28 juveniles who were booked for vandalism, illegally selling fireworks, failing to disperse, and violating curfews. A number of downtown businesses, police vehicles and a lifeguard tower were damaged.
➢ Being grossed out really isn’t an emergency. Union County in Georgia is begging people to stop calling about the loud noises cicadas make. Fire/Rescue & EMA wrote on Facebook, “Union County E911 is receiving multiple 911 calls for ‘alarms’ in the neighborhood. More than like these ‘alarms’ are not alarms at all but a bug, Brood X.”
The last time Brood X, a specific group of cicadas, made an appearance was in 2004. The bugs typically come out once the soil reaches 64 degrees.
➢ A Maryland candy shop is putting cicadas to good use… by cooking them, covering them in chocolate and selling them.

Alarm Clock Sales Are Booming as the Pandemic Winds Down
It seems like not that long ago we were all dropping full paychecks on toilet paper. But priorities are shifting as things open back up. For example, DEODORANT is flying off the shelves right now.
But here’s our favorite product that’s selling: Walmart says it sold twice as many ALARM CLOCKS last month compared to a year ago. I guess people finally need them again. Here are a few more things we’ve been stocking up on in the last few weeks . . .
- Luggage, up 400% from last year. In general, all travel-related products are selling well right now.
- Teeth whitening strips and beauty products. They’ve been one of the biggest sellers in the past few months according to Walmart.
- Sales of party supplies have more than doubled. And balloon sales are up 50%.
- New clothing, especially warm weather clothes. They’re up 60% from last year.
- Razors and other shaving-related products. For both men and women.

FAMILY DINNERS ARE GOOD FOR OUR HEALTH—AND IT’S NOT JUST BECAUSE OF THE FOOD
Sitting down to share family dinner isn’t just good for physical health, it’s good for mental health.
More than two decades of research show that kids who eat with their families do better in school and have bigger vocabularies. They also have lower rates of depression, anxiety, and eating disorders, as well as healthier diets and better cardiovascular health.
But it’s not just good news for kids. The data shows that across the lifespan, shared meals are associated with healthier eating and better mood. Science has even shown that when unrelated adults, like firefighters, cook and eat together they show enhanced team performance.
When kids are present at mealtime, parents may eat more healthily, perhaps to model good behavior and provide the best nourishment they can to their kids. In addition, parents who regularly dined with their kids reported higher levels of family functioning, greater self-esteem and lower levels of depressive symptoms and stress.

- During the Cubs-Pirates game yesterday, Javier Báez hit a ground ballthat was picked up at third base. The throw to Pirates first baseman Will Craig was a little off and instead of stepping on the bag, he started casually jogging towards Báez to tag him out. Báez started slowly running back towards home, which took the focus off of Willson Contreras who had come from second and then broke for home. Craig tossed the ball to the catcher, but he was too late. Báez then headed to first, but the throw was off, so he made it to second. (Here are the announcers reacting to the play. El Mago means “The Magician” in Spanish.)
- Philly chefs wanted to celebrate the fact that the pandemic is under control the only way they know how… cheesesteak. Geno Vento, owner of the famous Geno’s in South Philly, got together with some chef friends and built a 510-foot cheesesteak for the neighborhood to enjoy. Here are the chefs talking about their idea.
- Here’s Jerry Seinfeld joking about how your night self creates problems for your morning self . . . and it all begins months earlier.
FRIENDS REUNION
During the reunion, Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer said they had major crushes on each other during the first season but couldn’t act on it since they were always dating other people. (From “Friends: The Reunion” on HBO Max, on Thursday, May 27, 2021.)
One of the big surprises during the “Friends” reunion was when Lisa Kudrow sat down on the Central Perk couch and sang Phoebe’s song, “Smelly Cat”. Then Lady Gaga came out to make it a duet. (From “Friends: The Reunion” on HBO Max, on Thursday, May 27, 2021.)
Blake Shelton on the Time a Random Fan Gave Him a Bag of Weed
BLAKE SHELTON has a pretty good “back in the day” story from when he was new to the business. He was performing at a McDonald’s in Birmingham, Alabama as part of a radio promotion . . . and then this happened.
Quote, “A guy is standing off to the side and he’s like, ‘Hey, you’re Blake, right?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, good to meet you.’ He says, ‘I brought something for you.’ He hands me this paper sack. I sat back down, and I looked in the sack and it was a bag of weed.
“And I remember thinking, ‘Oh my god, I just got set up.’ He handed me this bag of weed . . . Are the police gonna show up? I ran to the bathroom and flushed it all down the toilet, which I never would’ve done now, right? Now, it’d be like, ‘hey, hey.’
“But at the time I was 24 years old in Alabama and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I just got set up and am going to jail’ . . . but I didn’t.”
