A guy in Chicago has been jumping into Lake Michigan every day since June 13, 2020.  (The guy’s name is Dan O’Conor.  Here he talking about it, along with being cheered on after his 365th jump.)

➢  Remember Tessica Brown, the “Gorilla Glue Girl“?  Back in January, she ran out of hair spray . . . assumed that spray-on Gorilla Glue was fine instead . . . and her hair was cemented to her scalp for over a month.  And now Tessica is cashing in on her mistake . . . by launching her own HAIR CARE line called “Forever Hair“.  It includes a hair spray called “Forever Hold” that she says was inspired by Gorilla Glue.  But the big difference is it WILL wash out with soap and water.  (Here’s a clip from the original video she released.)

A houseplant with just 9 leaves has sold for a record-breaking US $19,297 on a New Zealand auction site. Bids for the “very rare white variegated Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma” closed Sunday night, after a flurry of bidding resulted in “meridianlamb” being named the eventual winner. In New Zealand dollars, the winning bid was $27,100. In the item description from the seller, it says: “This plant has 8 leaves with the 9th just about to uncurl. Each leaf has excellent variegation as does the stem and is well rooted in a 14cm pot.” Trade Me spokesperson Millie Silvester said it was “the most expensive houseplant ever sold” on the auction site.

➢  A guy got some pretty major celebrities, including Mark Wahlberg, Bob Saget, Kat Dennings, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Ben Kingsley, to send video messages congratulating his daughter on her graduation.  And he did it just by finding all their managers on LinkedIn and hitting them up.  (Here’s a montage.)

Salma Hayek’s pet owl once landed on Harry Styles’ head . . . and regurgitated a ball of rat fur onto it.   But Salma says, quote, “He was okay, he was [kind of] cool.  He didn’t scream.”  (From “Ellen” on Tuesday, June 15, 2021.)

TODAY IS……………….

SUNDAY-
• “Father’s Day”, celebrated on the 3rd Sunday in June in about 90 countries as a day to honor Dad and appreciate all he does. Many other countries celebrate a day for dad at other times in the year. The first observance of a “Father’s Day” was on July 5, 1908, in a church in Fairmont, West Virginia.

Seven Facts for the Official Start of Summer

The official start of summer is this Sunday.  If that’s not specific enough, the EXACT moment summer starts is 11:32 p.m. Eastern, 8:32 p.m. Pacific.

That’s when the North Pole is at its maximum tilt toward the sun, making it the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

  1. The term “dog days of summer” comes from astronomy.  Sirius is called the “Dog Star” and rises in late July.  In ancient Greece, the “dog days” meant the hottest part of the year.

  1. The world’s largest scoop of ice creamweighed 3,010 pounds.  A company in Wisconsin pulled it off in 2014, and then used it to hand out free scoops all weekend.

  1. We tend to be happier in summer.  A study in 2011 found it’s true by analyzing tweets from 2.4 million people.  They say it might be because there’s just more sun.

  1. The Eiffel Tower gets six inches taller in summer, because the metal expands from the heat.

  1. Wham-O started selling Frisbeesin 1957.  But the first frisbees were actually PIE TINS college students liked to throw around.  And it’s also where the name came from.  They got the tins from the Frisbie Pie Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

  1. There’s enough water in an Olympic-sized swimming pool to take 9,400 baths.  That’s enough to take one bath a day for 25 years.

  1. Popsicles were invented by mistake.  Back in 1905, a guy in San Francisco left some sugary water out overnight, and it froze.  Then he realized it was delicious.

GOOD NEWS

Last month, a Waffle House employee in Alabama named Timothy Harrison asked for a day off to go to his high school graduation.  But then he showed up that morning and said he WASN’T going, because he didn’t have nice clothes or a ride across town.  But his coworkers said NO WAY.

One of them drove him to get his cap and gown.  And his boss and two other employees went to a clothing store to buy him some dress clothes.  He ended up getting ready for his graduation right in the middle of the Waffle House dining area.

But here’s the best part:  A community college heard about the story.  And now they’re giving Timothy free tuition and books.
