On Today’s Show

A woman is on the run after causing a massive pileup during Stage 1 of the Tour de France on Saturday.

The woman had a cardboard sign saying “Allez Opi-Omi!” . . . which is a mix of French and German that means something like “Go grandpa-grandma!”  (???)

As the racers approached, she stepped into the road to hold the sign out, causing TONY MARTIN to crash into it, go down, and take out a whole bunch of bikes behind him.

Most riders were able to continue after the crash, but a guy named Jasha Sutterlin had to leave the race. They haven’t been able to find the woman yet, but when they do, the Tour de France is going to sue her.  They hope it’ll deter other spectators from doing stupid things to get on camera.

Firefighters in New York had to use emergency tools to rescue a teenager from a clothing store fitting room on Tuesday.  The store is in an old bank, and the fitting room area is in the old VAULT.  While a 14-year-old girl was trying on clothes, her 7-year old brother closed the vault door, and the employees didn’t know how to open it.  (Here are Giavanna Diesso, her mother Danielle Diesso, and Assistant Fire Chief Steve Erland.)

If you’re a wanted fugitive, you’ve gotta keep a low profile.  In other words, not this . . .

56-year-old Robert Morris has been wanted in New Hampshire for a while, but cops hadn’t been able to track him down until this past week . . . after he stole a 50-foot yacht worth $1 MILLION, and took it for a joyride.

He stole the yacht from a marina in upstate New York, right on the border of Canada.  And he tooled around in it for at least two days before a border patrol helicopter spotted him.

He had an online court hearing and claimed he was just testing the boat out after fixing it up for the owner. He also tried to claim the owner gave him permission to use the boat, which wasn’t true.  Then just for good measure, he flipped everyone off at the end of his hearing.  He’s facing a bunch of charges, including possession of stolen property.

A deaf sheepdog is making headlines after learning sign language to help her with basic communications and herding.  Here is Chloe Shorten explaining how Peggy the dog was rescued and taught new tricks.

Tom Cruise’s trouble-plagued “Mission: Impossible 7” shoot has reportedly been suspended again due to another positive COVID test. This comes 2 weeks after it was reported the cast and crew were in a race against time to finish the blockbuster, following several delays as a result of the pandemic. Production has been put on pause several times after a series of positive COVID tests and Cruise famously blasted crew members for violating health and safety guidelines on set.

ROAD-RAGEOUS:
Does the drive to work leave you in a bad mood all day long? Is road rage a “thing” for you? If so, you may be dealing with a case of “accelerousal.”

That’s according researchers at the University of Houston, who say some drivers have no problem staying calm, cool, and collected behind the wheel — regardless of traffic, the antics of other drivers, or other road nuisances.

But others can’t help but feel like they’re going to explode. 11 drivers were monitored during a series of half-hour drives along the same route in the same minivan. Researchers found that about half of the drivers showed “peaked stress” during moments of “commonplace acceleration,” like stopping at a red light.

The other drivers stayed calm. The scientists coined the term “accelerousal” to describe stress provoked by acceleration events, even small ones. They say some people may be genetically predisposed to experiencing “accelerousal”. “Accelaroused” participants were also found to be much more exhausted after driving than others drivers.

Dierks Bentley on Luke Bryan’s “Big Strong Farm Legs”

DIERKS BENTLEY and LUKE BRYAN did a 100-mile road bike race last month in Jackson, Mississippi.  Dierks talked about it in a recent interview, and focused on the tight biking pants they wore.

Quote, “We strapped on the ‘old guys in tight clothing look’ [with] the lycra, big bike helmet, and glasses.  Not a look you want to be seen in.

“[But] when you’re six hours into it, you’re dead, giving all you have, and your pants are slowing you down and you’re like, ‘at this point I’d ride naked if it helped.’  You want it over and don’t want wind resistance.  [So] you’re there with the tight pants.”

So who won this crazy race?  Not Dierks.  He added, quote, “[Luke’s] surprisingly good.  He’s got those big strong legs . . . those farm legs . . . it’s like tree trunks pushing down on the pedals.  [So] yeah, he won.”

He’s thinking revenge, though.  Quote, “I got to get Luke out to my neck of the woods because he can’t handle the elevation in Colorado.  I could crush him there.”

Eric Church Keeps a List in His Pocket of Everyone Who Turned Him Down

ERIC CHURCH credits his success to a long road of paying his dues.  He even keeps a list in his pocket of everyone who turned him down before he was famous.

But he isn’t looking for revenge, it’s just a reminder of all the triumphs over bumps along his journey. He says, quote, “There’s a motivation in being told ‘NO,’ that you can’t do something.  It’s part of paying your dues. “My big beef with the younger generation now is that they go on shows like ‘American Idol’ or ‘The Voice’ and it becomes more about a one-time moment. “That’s a really different thing than how you’re supposed to approach playing music.  It’s okay to go to 10 places and get the door slammed in your face.  It’s an integral part of learning who you are as an artist.”
