On Today’s Show
June 29, 2021 9:35 am➢ Environment Canada warns the brutal heat wave that has settled over much of Western Canada won’t lift for days, although parts of British Columbia and Yukon could see some relief sooner.
Heat warnings remain posted across B.C. and Alberta, large parts of Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories and a section of Yukon as the weather office forecasts temperatures reaching 40 C in some areas.
Sixty temperature records fell Sunday in B.C., including in the Village of Lytton, where the it reached 46.6 C — breaking the all-time Canadian high of 45 C, set in Saskatchewan in 1937.
Forecasters say humid conditions could make it feel close to 50 C in B.C.’s Fraser Valley.
➢ A huge huntsman spider dropped on top of a panicked pilot, just as the plane was landing at a tiny airfield in Australia. Here’s a clip of the chaos and laughter in the cockpit with the discovery of the giant spider.
➢ A woman pranked a phone scam artist by pretending to go live as an investigative reporter who has the FBI on the line tracking the call. The scammer hung up immediately.
(The scam was brilliantly pulled-off by Jeannette Reyes, who’s a news anchor in Washington D.C.)
➢ Salma Hayek says she actually practiced cursing to impress Samuel L. Jackson while filming “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” . . . and the language rubbed off on her.

It’s So Hot That . . .
- Sixty temperature records fell Sunday in B.C., including in the Village of Lytton, where the it reached 46.6 C — breaking the all-time Canadian high of 45 C, set in Saskatchewan in 1937.
Forecasters say humid conditions could make it feel close to 50 C in B.C.’s Fraser Valley.
- It’s so hot that Salem, Oregon . . . southwest of Portland . . . reached 117 degrees yesterday, which is a record for the city. In Portland, it was 115 yesterday. 115 is the highest temperature ever recorded there since historical records began in 1940.
Portland’s average high temperature for this time of year is about 73 degrees.
- It’s so hot that Seattle also broke a record for the highest temperature ever recorded there: 107 degrees. And there are excessive heat warnings for much of Washington and Oregon, as well as parts of California, Idaho, and Nevada.
- It’s so hot in Portland that transit power cablesare melting. And people are sharing photos of how tar is melting off train tracks.
- It’s so hot in Portland that the vinyl sidingis blistering off houses.
This is all due to something called a “heat dome,” and it was created when the atmosphere trapped hot ocean air like a lid or cap.
Some areas will start getting relief today, but the cooling process will happen very gradually. And other regions still haven’t hit their peak.

GOOD NEWS
A guy from Wisconsin named Mark Scotch was on vacation in Louisiana early last year, and met a random guy at a brewery named Hugh Smith who needed a kidney transplant. So Mark offered him one of HIS, but they weren’t a match.
He still wanted to help him tough. So he ended up donating a kidney to someone else, which got Hugh a kidney in return.
Then they threw a party at the same brewery last month . . . and Mark rode his bike 1,500 miles from Wisconsin to Louisiana to raise awareness. He called his trip “The ORGAN Trail.”

A Guy Spray-Painted a Stolen U-Haul, but Forgot It Still Said “U-Haul” on the Windshield
No word if this guy got the insurance on his U-Haul. But something tells me it won’t cover this anyway . . .
A 25-year-old rented a U-Haul van in March to drive from Florida to New York. And he never returned it.
But cops finally caught up with him because of one crucial detail he forgot about.
Police in upstate New York were investigating a burglary when they spotted a van with a bad paint job. Some of it was white, but most of it was black.
It turned out Austin spray-painted the van black to hide all the U-Haul logos. And he’d slowly been stripping the parts to sell for scrap.
But the cops still knew it was stolen . . . because he forgot about a huge U-Haul logo at the top of the windshield.
The bad paint job alone caused over $10,000 in damage. He’s now facing multiple charges.

A Drug Dealer Threw a Garbage Bag of Weed Off the Top of a Building . .
In a lot of places, marijuana is easier to get than ever. And in New York City, it’s literally falling from the sky.
Earlier this month, a 29-year-old man brought a GARBAGE BAG filled with marijuana to the roof of a building in Brooklyn. He was apparently a drug dealer, who was expecting to sell 19 POUNDS of weed for $20,000.
But things went south. His “customers” pulled out guns, and started attacking him, trying to steal the bag. So the guy just HURLED IT off the roof.
It slammed onto the sidewalk below it exploded everywhere . . . and when the pedestrians realized what it was, they scrambled to grab what they could and then ran off.
The drug dealer was treated for minor injuries at the hospital. And the police are looking for the people who robbed him. .

The Story of the New Mexico Cop Turned Country Singer
This is a great “chasing your dreams” story. A Las Cruces, New Mexico police officer named FRANK RAY made a life-changing decision back in 2017 to quit the force and pursue a career as a country singer. He was 33.
It wasn’t random. Frank’s a skilled songwriter and performer who grew up in Texas and New Mexico and he’s been soaking up the local musical influences his whole life.
“There hadn’t been a prominent Hispanic artist, whether female or male, in country music in a very long time. You look back at maybe Freddy Fender or Johnny Rodriguez, but there’s not been many.”
His career picked up steam when a promoter saw him open for Keith Urban. He got him booked into the Texas dance hall and club circuit, and convinced local radio to play his music. But it was Frank’s wife who finally talked him into taking the plunge.
Quote, “She was like, ‘You’ll kick yourself for the rest of your life if you don’t do it. I don’t ever want you to miss out on an opportunity and say you didn’t give it your all.'”
