The woman who caused the crash at the Tour de France has been arrested after a four-day search.  Apparently, she was still in France.  Police haven’t released any other information yet.  Tour de France officials have said they plan to sue the woman . . . and at least one rider who had to withdraw from the race because of the crash said he might, too.

A 45-year-old woman in New Zealand named Mary McCarthy got tested for Covid back in October.  But doctors ended up finding something else . . . a Tiddlywink that had been stuck up her nose for 37 YEARS.

A CAT scan at the hospital spotted the Tiddlywink in her upper nose, and she had surgery on Thursday to get it out.  They ended up having to push it even FARTHER up her nose, and removed it through her mouth.

GOOD NEWS

On Monday, Gwen McLoughlin, 70, served as bat girl for the New York Yankees when they hosted the Los Angeles Angels, 60 years after she was rejected when she wrote a letter to the team as a 10-year-old asking if she could serve in the role.

In 1961, Gwen received a response from Roy Hamey, who was general manager of the team after she wrote a letter asking to be a bat girl.

“While we agree with you that girls are certainly as capable as boys, and no doubt would be an attractive addition on the playing field, I am sure you can understand that in a game dominated by men a young lady such as yourself would feel out of place in a dugout,” Hamey replied.

Fast forward six decades and McLoughlin’s daughter Abby forwarded the letter to the team, which caught the eye of current general manager Brian Cashman, who replied with a more favorable reaction inviting her to be the honorary bat girl during the game as part of the Yankees’ annual Hope Week, which shines a light on inspiring stories and people.

“Here at the Yankees, we have championed to break down gender barriers in our industry. It is an ongoing commitment rooted in the belief that a woman belongs everywhere a man does, including the dugout.”

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE IT?
Sheets:  You shed 500 million cells daily. Your bed is also subject to sweat, pollen, pet dander, fungi and mold. Bedding should be washed at least once every 2 weeks, more often if you sweat a lot at night, or if you’ve been sick.

Pillow:  It absorbs body oil, dead skin cells and hair. Wash it every 6 months and add a protective case between the pillow and cover. But it should still be replaced every 1-2 years.

Toothbrush (or the brush head on your electric toothbrush):  Should be replaced every 3-4 months, sooner if the bristles look worn out.

Kitchen sponge:  Every week (!!) Bacteria that can cause foodborne disease stay on dish sponges and scrubbers even if they’ve been cleaned in the microwave or in boiling water.

Towel:  You should wash or switch your bath towel at least once a week. Dish towels – pretty much after every use.

Makeup brush:  You should be buying new ones about every 3 months to replace worn-out ones. Signs it’s time to replace them include lost bristles, discoloration or unusual smells.

Reusable water bottle:  To know when to replace it, look out for any foul smells you just can’t get rid of despite washing, a buildup of gunk around the mouthpiece or lid, or cracks in the plastic.

RED WINE IS A TRIFECTA OF CHEMICALS THAT CAN MAKE SOME PEOPLE FEEL TERRIBLE

Hangovers are no fun, but some people actually feel sick after just one glass of red wine. Symptoms can vary from an itchy rash to a wheezing cough, or even a pounding migraine.

So what is it about red wine?

A Registered dietician says migraines after a glass of red wine are likely caused by substances that occur naturally in most types of alcoholic drinks and are chemical byproducts of fermentation. Certain types of these congeners, including those called tannins, can make people who are already susceptible to migraines more likely to get them. White wine does not contain these substances.

As for the wheezing, coughing and itchy rashes—those may be caused by sulfites, which winemakers sometimes use to keep wine from spoiling. And the final issue with red wine is a protein found in the grape skin called LTP—this protein gives red wine its color, but also might induce an allergic response in certain people which can include flushing.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD COORDINATED FIREWORKS SHOWS AS A KID

Carrie Underwood showed glimpses of becoming the superstar she is when she was only a kid. She tells us she used this weekend’s holiday as the perfect opportunity to entertain her parents. [“I think my favorite Fourth of July memory would be going to the fireworks stand and picking out which fireworks I wanted to do. I must’ve been like 7 or 8, and I came home and made a list of what order I wanted to do them in, because I wanted to put a show on for Mom and Dad, and of course I couldn’t wait until it was dark outside (laughs). So, I made my Mom and Dad get the lawn chairs and come out to the backyard and watch some not very dramatic fireworks at like six o’clock in the evening, but I was so proud of myself, and I was so proud of the show that I put on. So, I feel like that was a little training for what I do now – putting on shows, figuring out how it’s all going to work out.”]
