On Today’s Show
July 6, 2021 9:35 am➢ An 82-year-old woman named Wally Funk trained with NASA in 1961 and did BETTER than the guys. But she never got to go to space because she’s a woman.
But now 60 years later, that’s about to change. Because Jeff Bezos just announced she’ll be joining him on a Blue Origin rocket later this month. And she’ll also become the OLDEST person to go to space.
The launch date is July 20th. Jeff’s brother is going too, along with someone who paid $28 million for a seat. Jeff posted a video with Wally on Instagram yesterday, and she’s thrilled about it. He said “no one has waited longer” than she has.
➢ After a few years of fighting, a woman in Hillsborough, California finally won the battle to keep her strange-looking house just as it is. The town decided to allow the house, which is designed to look like it’s out of “The Flintstones,” to keep additions recently made to the property.
The town had previously taken owner to court, claiming she had violated local codes. Her front yard features metal sculptures of dinosaurs, statues of the cartoon characters from the show, and more. The town argued these items were eyesores. When she ignored the town’s stop-work orders back in 2019, the town sued her, and she, in turn, sued them back.
A decision last week was made that will allow her to keep her new yard additions and the town will also reportedly pay Fang $125,000.
➢ In case you haven’t seen this: A woman wore the SAME Hawaiian shirt for 264 work Zoom meetings in a row, and no one said a word.
And then she wore it AGAIN when she finally returned to the office, and they still didn’t notice.
➢ ZOOEY DESCHANEL loves dating JONATHAN SCOTT from “Property Brothers” because he always has the right tool for the job. And that’s NOT sexual innuendo.
She says, quote, “It’s great because he fixes everything. He can fix anything. It’s amazing. He just like gets out his tool kit and he fixes stuff. He’s so great.
“I’ll be like, ‘Oh, the fridge is broken’ or, you know, ‘Oh, that, uh, the picture needs to be hung up.’ He can do everything. It’s so nice. And then I like decor and stuff like that. So like, I love buying, you know, I like buying things.”
Zooey was already a fan of “Property Brothers” before she met Jonathan, but she says the idea of a relationship never crossed her mind. They met by chance, doing “Carpool Karaoke”, and hit it off.

GOOD NEWS
When boat captain Jennifer Dowker saw a small green bottle at the bottom of the Cheboygan River in Michigan, she picked it up, thinking it might keep a prospective client interested in scuba diving.
But Dowker, the owner of Nautical North Family Adventures, which runs shipwreck tours and scuba diving lessons in Cheboygan, Michigan, found a message in the bottle dated from 1926.
It read: “Will the person who finds this bottle, return this paper to George Morrow, Cheboygan, Michigan, and tell where it was found?”
The name Morrow is fairly common in the area, so Dowker figured if she posted a picture of the note and the bottle on Facebook, the letter-writer would be found. She got a call from a woman named Michele Primeau on Father’s Day, whose father, George Morrow, died in 1995.
At the request of Primeau, Dowker and her team will hold the bottle in a shadowbox along with a photo of Primeau’s father from 1926.

More Than 80 People Were Caught . . . In an Illegal Coupon Ring?
Authorities near Houston, have just completed an eight-month investigation that uncovered an illegal, underground crime ring known as “Dark Side.”
More than 80 people involved with Dark Side have been identified. And what kind of crime was Dark Side wrapped up in? They were producing counterfeit COUPONS.
You know, like 50 cents off toothpaste, diapers, cleaning wipes, and soap.
But they were allegedly doing it on a large scale. And one individual somehow purchased more than $200,000 worth of items from different stores in just ONE YEAR using these fake coupons. That’s nearly $550 a day.
The “thieves” made it look like these were discounts from manufacturers . . . and “stole” items from places like Walmart, Kroger, Target, and Walgreens. Then, they’d sell the items at flea markets and online.
The coupons only LOOKED legit . . . they wouldn’t actually work if you scanned them . . . but they were so convincing that store employees would honor them. One estimate claims the ring is responsible for $10 to $20 MILLION in losses.

A Fake Cop Pulled Over a Real Cop Who Recognized Him
Well this is unlucky: 27-year-old Vincent Marks lives in Louisiana near Baton Rouge, and likes to PRETEND to be a cop.
And earlier this month, he pulled someone over near New Orleans.
His car had flashing lights, so the driver assumed it was a real cop and pulled into a parking lot. Then Vincent used his own car to block the guy in.
He whipped out a fake badge and acted like a police officer. But it turned out he picked the wrong person to mess with . . . because the driver happened to be a REAL cop who was off-duty.
The guy also recognized Vincent, because they’d had a run-in before. He was involved in some sort of domestic dispute earlier this year.
He’s facing charges for impersonating an officer.

The ceremony was officiated by CARSON DALY, the host of “The Voice”. But Blake’s BFF ADAM LEVINE wasn’t there. He was off recording in Miami.
TMZ got a picture of them cutting their cake, and a clip from their first dance . . . which was to PETER GABRIEL’s “In Your Eyes”.
