On Today’s Show
July 7, 2021 9:35 am➢ A Mom filmed the family’s babysitter singing “Part of Your World” from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” . . . and the girl is terrific. She didn’t know she was being filmed, but gave the mom her approval to post it. And so far it’s racked up more than 12 million views on TikTok.
Once Delaney Wilson started working for Nicki Maher, the mom of two asked Wilson why she didn’t post more videos of herself singing on social media. She said because of some online bullying she didn’t want to post herself singing.
“That’s when she said to me, ‘I just overthink it and I never feel like I sound good enough and I just don’t always feel confident in the way I look,’”
What was even more impressive – and touching – to Maher was a video on Wilson’s TikTok profile that showed the moment she found out she was accepted to her dream school, Berklee College of Music.
➢ A well-known shoe store in Quebec City just closed down after 85 years, but the owners might have found a big payday on their way out.
They were cleaning the place up this month, and found a hidden door to a room they didn’t know about that was behind a shelf . . . with 400 pairs of vintage shoes from the 1960s. All of them are in mint condition, so there might be a lot of money in those shoeboxes.
When news spread, customers quickly showed up or called, wanting to get their hands on a pair. But the owners wants to do a proper inventory of the collection. They’ve since found two more hidden doors in the ancient building that they plan on opening soon.
➢ Many people have reluctantly gotten used to having curfews imposed on them as part of lockdown measures, but I’m not so sure that cats will accept them quite so willingly. A municipality in Melbourne, Australia has announced that felines will be subject to a “24-hour cat curfew,” requiring owners to keep their cats on their property at all times. Knox City Council Mayor Lisa Cooper said: “When allowed to roam, cats are at a much higher risk of illness and injury. Keeping cats within their owners’ property also protects wildlife and prevents them causing nuisance for neighbors and their pets.” Wandering cats may be picked up and fines may be issued, once the new rule goes into effect on Oct. 1.
➢ A FREE Elvis Presley streaming channel is coming out next year. It’ll show archived footage, Elvis films and music documentaries and will only be available in the U.S. and Canada through Samsung, Roku, Hulu, and Amazon. (Here’s a music bed of “Suspicious Minds” to use with the story.)
A lucky ticket holder in Ontario is $65 million richer, with one winning ticket sold in Tuesday’s Lotto Max jackpot.
Five of the 14 available Maxmillion prizes of $1 million were also claimed by three tickets sold in British Columbia, one in the Prairie provinces and one in Ontario.
The jackpot for the next draw on July 9 will be at an estimated $21 million.
TODAY IS……………….
- “Chocolate Day”, started by the Confectioners Association to promote what is almost every woman’s (and many a man’s) weakness. Some say chocolate from the New World (mostly Mexico) was introduced to Europe on this date in 1550.

PRIVATE NEIGHBOURHOOD
A couple from London purchased and moved into a home of what was supposed to be a new housing community in England over three years ago. Unfortunately, the building company went under, leaving most of the houses unfinished, turning the area into a ghost town.
At the time they moved in, many of the other houses in the area were still under construction.
Unfortunately, about a year later, the building company went out of business before finishing many of the homes in the area.
Since then, they’v found themselves living in a deserted community with no other neighbors. They’ve had to install floodlights in certain areas to keep people from sneaking into the abandoned lots to do drugs.
At one point, the couple spent time working in the United States. When they returned home, they say that contractors had stripped rooves and balconies from many of the properties.
The couple also found their furniture tossed onto a neighbor’s roof.
While the couple had to pay for their own repairs, they were able to get their money returned to them in court.
Apparently, the property has been purchased by a new developer, so it’s likely that construction could be completed at a future date.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS
- Vanna White hasn’t actually flipped a letter in over two decades. “Wheel of Fortune”changed their set in 1997 so the letters were computerized, not manual . . . and ever since then, she’s just touched the letters.
- The Morgan Freeman movie “10 Items or Less”was the first film that was legally available for downloading, in 2006.

6 Plants That Naturally Repel Mosquitoes
Citronella Grass
The essential oil from citronella grass is used to make those insect-repellent candles you’ve probably come across at a summer barbecue. Make sure you’re buying the tall spiky grass Cymbopogon nardus, not “citronella plant” (Pelargonium citrosum), which is actually a type of geranium that smells similar to citronella but doesn’t contain the same mosquito-repelling oils.
Basil
Basil essential oil is being studied for its mosquito-fighting properties, and anecdotal evidence says just growing it helps keep mosquitoes at bay.
Lemon Balm
This member of the mint family gets its distinctive scent from an oil that contains some of the same properties as citronella, including an ability to repel mosquitoes.
Peppermint
Peppermint essential oil has been shown to repel mosquitoes. A cousin of lemon balm, peppermint has essentially the same care requirements: give it lots of sun and water and contain it in a pot unless you want to grow lots of mint and nothing else in your flower bed.
Lavender
Anecdotal evidence and some tests on lavender essential oil suggests that mosquitoes don’t like the smell. Lavender is a perennial, so expect it to come back yearly.
Catnip
Nepetalactone, the essential oil that gives catnip its distinctive smell, has mosquito-repelling properties. Catnip (another member of the mint family) grows best in full sun and well-draining soil, but it will put up with partial sun and just about any type of soil.

Here’s How to Get Your Body Moving Again After a Year Stuck Inside
A survey that found MOST people think the pandemic and sitting around for the past year took YEARS off their life. So here are five tips to help get you moving again . . .
- Just stand up . . . that’s it. It’s the simplest thing you can do to start prepping your body to reenter the world. Just by standing, you’re already burning more calories and using more muscles.
- Track your steps. The latest research suggests getting 7,500 steps a day can lower your risk of mortality. But even if you’re not anywhere near that right now, you can work your way up. If you do a thousand steps one day, try to do 1,200 the next.
- Yeah, you still gotta exercise too. But you don’t need to run a marathon or anything . . . just 10-minute intervals of exercise a few times a day will make a huge difference.
- Start stretching. Stretching is basically the MOST important part if you’ve been doing the bed-to-couch-to-bed loop for the past year. Focus especially on shoulder stretches, neck stretches, and hip flexor stretches.
- Remember, you didn’t do permanent damage. Even if it feels like you’ve aged 40 years since last March, experts say a year of living a sedentary life likely didn’t do any permanent damage.

LOCAL LOTTERY WINNER
A food industry worker from Chatham has a lot to celebrate after winning $1 million on Lotto Max last month.
Dwayne Willder had a winning ticket for a Max Millions prize from the June 8 Lotto Max draw.
According to Willder, he decided to purchase an extra $10 worth of tickets on a whim.
“I honestly couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I checked my ticket using the OLG Lottery App and my wife came to look for herself when she heard the noise on my phone. I had to double-check on OLG.ca because I was in denial.”
Willder described the win as being an unexpected and overwhelming experience.
“We’ve always put our money towards our house and children,” he said. “Now we can really enjoy a future focused on us.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Charlie’s Variety Store on Park Avenue in Chatham.
CHRIS LANE’S SON HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL AND ON THE MEND
Chris Lane and his wife, Lauren, were able to bring their newborn son home after a night in the hospital earlier this week. Chris updated fans that one-month-old Dutton has an ear infection and is on the mend.
Yesterday (Tuesday, July 6th), he shared a short video of the baby sleeping peacefully writing, “Thank y’all so much for all the prayers! Dutty Buddy is doing much better this morning!”
Lauren gave an update on her socials writing, “14 hours later we are home and resting but basically he has a common virus (basically a cold) and ear infection but with babies so small and under 28 days old they worry about meningitis and do a full work up / spinal tap. Thankfully we just have to give him meds and keep an eye and pray it doesn’t turn respiratory or get any secondary infections.”
Chris and Lauren welcomed Dutton, their first child, on June 8th.

ERIC CHURCH’S ALBUM ‘ICEBREAKER’ IS HIS NEW SINGLE
Eric Church has just released a new single called “Heart On Fire.” He wrote the song by himself for his Heart & Soul project, and as he tells us, it got the entire creative process started. [“So, ‘Heart On Fire’ was the first song we recorded when we got to North Carolina. I wrote this song by myself, but I already had this song on the rails and we were heading down the path of what this was going to be. I thought we needed to kind of break the ice and get started on something, you know, we were doing something that was tough to do – writing the song the same day we were record it. This was the song that was kind of the icebreaker for the whole project, and I credit this song a lot for getting us to where we ended up getting to with the project.”]
“Heart On Fire” is the follow-up to his recent chart-topper, “Hell Of A View.”
Eric will launch his Gather Again Tour this fall.

LUKE COMBS
Luke Combs — As promised, he delivered a second new, unreleased song to fans.
‘Five Leaf Clover’ finds him grateful for all of the blessings he’s received — and, frankly, a little shocked that they’ve all come his way. It follows ‘Good Old Days’, both of which were shared via live performance videos.
There’s an old video of Luke Combs making the rounds, from back when he was attending college at Appalachian State University.
In the clip, he’s singing “The Way She Rides”, and he’s sporting a little ponytail . . . and no beard.
