Canada now has 6 medals thanks to softball and swimming. Canada beat Mexico 3-2 for Broze in Softball and Lasalle’s won Silver in the 100-meter backstroke.

San Francisco is looking to replace their public trash cans throughout the city . . . And apparently cost was NOT an issue, because the prototypes of the models they’ve had designed cost $20,000 . . . EACH.   Every trash can.  $20,000.

There are more than 3,000 public trash cans throughout the city, so if you do the math, that’s more than $60 MILLION. For the record, the city notes that while the PROTOTYPES will cost up to $20,000, when they have them mass produced the price should come down.

They’re much more difficult to break into which is a huge issue and there’s a sensor inside, which will notify city workers when the trash can is almost full.

A 78-year-old grandmother from Albuquerque has entered her first strength competition. Here’s Linda Patterson explaining why she decided to get into powerlifting so late in life.

The world’s deepest pool has opened in Dubai. With a depth of 60 meters (196 feet), the pool, part of the new “Deep Dive Dubai” attraction, is filled with 14 million liters of fresh water — the volume of 6 Olympic-sized swimming pools — and is at least 4 times bigger than any other diving pool in the world. But the coolest part of Deep Dive Dubai is probably the pool’s underwater city. Divers can explore “abandoned” sunken city apartments and play underwater pool in the arcade. State-of-the-art lighting and sound systems have been fitted inside to create different atmospheres. The pool also doubles as an underwater film studio. The facility is open by invitation only for now but will open to the public later this year. And yes, Dubai is already home to the world’s tallest skyscraper and the world’s largest mall…

Paris Hilton went viral last year with a video where she made lasagna.  And now, she’s coming out with a six-episode cooking series on Netflix called “Cooking with Paris” on August 4th.

(In this clip, Paris doesn’t measure and ends up putting WAY too much seasoning on her hamburger, which she then cleans off with a wet towel before putting it in the “drainer”, to get rid of the “oily stuff”.)

The Dumbest Things Doctors Have Heard from Patients

Who do you trust more?  Your doctor . . . or whatever Google spits out when you type, “My toe hurts.  Am I DYING?”  Someone on Reddit asked doctors to name the dumbest things they’ve heard from patients who decided to be their OWN doctor.  Here are a few highlights . . .

  1. A guy showed up to the E.R. with a minor cut, and there was red powder all over his hand.  It turned out he put paprika on it to “stop the bleeding.”

  1. A lady called her doctor to ask if her hemorrhoid cream would still work on vacation . . . because she read you’re only supposed to apply it “locally.”

  1. Someone had a cut that was seriously infected.  It turned out they’d rubbed dirt in it, because they heard it would stimulate their immune response.

  1. A doctor mentioned that his back was hurting . . . and the person he was talking to immediately diagnosed HIM with “spine cancer.”  They were wrong.

  1. A woman read that drinking your own PEE was a good idea . . . then ONLY drank that, and ended up in the hospital with kidney issues.

  1. A baby had really bad diaper rash, because the mom had been pouring water into new diapers before putting them on.  She said she thought you were supposed to . . . because diaper ads always show people pouring liquids in them.

FOUR RANDOM FACTS

  1. The same enzyme that makes apples and potatoes turn brown is also responsible for tanning in humans.

  1. In 1500s England, beards were taxed according to their length.
  2. It takes between seven and 14 days to make one jelly bean.

Guy Steals a Bunch of Stuff from a Store, and Gets Caught After Returning Something He Didn’t Want

36-year-old Matthew Robinson went to a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Altoona, Pennsylvania on July 3rd.  (About two hours east of Pittsburgh.)

And he walked off with almost $2,000 worth of clothes and shoes he didn’t pay for.

He packed it all in his car and could have just left.  But he decided to walk back into the store . . . and RETURN something he didn’t want.

It’s not clear if he tried to get a refund, or just had no use for it and wanted to give it back.  But when he walked in, they accused him of stealing.  So he took off.

Cops were able to track him down using surveillance footage from the store.  He’s facing charges for retail theft and receiving stolen property.

A Florida Man Was Arrested for Fighting an Alligator to ‘Teach It a Lesson’

Remember in “Happy Gilmore”, when he fights the alligator?  Well, this might be the closest thing you’ll see to it in real life . . .

There’s a mini golf course in Daytona Beach, Florida called Congo River that also has alligators you can feed.  And yesterday morning, some guy STOLE one.

Just after 3:00 A.M., police spotted a man FIGHTING an alligator on the street.  And it turned out he’d stolen it from the course.

He’s 32, and his name is William Hodge, but he goes by Bubba.  Police posted a photo of him being handcuffed, and the alligator looks fairly small.  Maybe four or five feet long.  (Here’s the photo.)

According to the police report, cops saw him swinging it around by its tail and trying to toss it on the roof of a building.  So they arrested him.  And when they asked why he was doing it . . . he said he was trying to teach the alligator a “lesson.”  (???)

He also told them he jumped a fence into its enclosure, and had to wrestle the gator for a while.  But it sounds like it’s okay and back home now.

Bubba’s facing charges for theft, burglary, criminal mischief, and animal cruelty.

ROOMS FOR IMPROVEMENT:
The Hilton hotel chain has announced that they will only perform housekeeping services for guests upon request…and experts see it as a growing trend in the hospitality industry.

As hotel stays plummeted in 2020 at the height of the pandemic, daily housekeeping was one of the first services to be cut, but even as travel revived, daily room tidying is not coming back full-force.

And guests don’t seem to mind: An August, 2020 survey found that almost two-thirds of travelers feel housekeeping is unnecessary. And many hotels are also considering cuts to other services, including free breakfasts.

  1.   Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison decided to squash some rumors claiming he defecated in his pantsat a McDonald’s in 1997 after attending a rugby match.  Here he is on Australian radio show “Kyle and Jackie O” trying to clear up the whole situation.

VERY LONG LIFE:

While more adults are reaching 100 years-old every decade, far fewer make it to the milestone of 110. But a new study says that may soon change.

Researchers from the University of Washington say their estimates show human lifespans are about to push into uncharted territory.

They predict that not only will someone break the record for being the oldest living human, it’s almost certain that “supercentenarians” will start living into their 120s this century. In fact, their complicated calculations determined that there is a 99% chance that someone will live to 122 years before 2100, and an 89% chance that someone will hit the age of 126. Currently, the record for the oldest human belongs to Jeanne Calment of France, who died at the age of 122 in 1997. Kane Tanaka of Japan is the oldest living person, at 118.

Thomas Rhett Is Afraid of Spiders, Roaches . . . and the Dark

If you check out THOMAS RHETT’s Instagram you’ll see shots of him fishing and hunting.  Y’know, the manly stuff.  But you’ll be hard-pressed to find him posing with the creepy-crawlies.  Somebody asked about his fears and phobias.

He said, quote, “I have a few . . . I don’t know if they’re strange fears, but they’re intense fears.  I really, really do not like spiders at all.  I can handle a small one, but anything a bit bigger than that I can’t really deal with it.  I don’t like roaches either.”

So I guess if one of his three daughters needs a hero to remove a spider, they call their mom, Lauren.  And if they have a scary nightmare, same thing.

He adds, quote, “I really don’t like to be in the dark by myself.  I usually sleep with the TV on when I’m sleeping by myself.”
