➢ A huge, four-foot-tall beach ball randomly showed up in Stoughton, Wisconsin . . . population 12,611. Well, 12,612 if you count “Rolie Polie Ole,” which is what the town has nicknamed their new celebrity “hero.” It all started a few weeks ago when a local Facebook post asked whose ball it was. They never figured it out, but the town has adopted it as their mascot . . . taking turns pushing it around, kicking it to each other, taking selfies with it, and signing it.
All this movement and hands-on attention is rough on Rolie Polie Ole . . . but the local fire department has stepped in to help keep the ball fixed up, patched, and inflated.
It’s unclear what the long-term plan for it is. There’s been talk of naming a park after it. But the town generally seems content to just enjoy seeing it around town, and use it as a fun distraction from everything else going on.
➢ Here’s a Flashback Friday from “Shark Tank” back in 2009 that probably would have had a different result today. A woman named Irina Blok pitched a line of fashionable surgical masks . . . and every judge shut her down.
High-Tech Trivia: She is best known for the creation of the Google Android logo, including its green robot icon.
➢ Do you listen to music at a reasonable volume, or are you listening to us at “11” right now? A police department in Spain got a bunch of noise complaints last Saturday night after some guy turned his stereo up full blast, and his neighbors couldn’t sleep.
They expected to find a big party going on. But when they got there, no one was home. So who did it? It turns out the guy’s CAT knows how to turn his stereo on, and likes using its paws to spin the knob that controls the volume.
He explained it all to the cops when they called his cell phone. Then he drove straight home to turn it off, and found his cat rocking out to music all by itself.
COUNTRY MUSIC NOTE

The Best Times to Mow Your Lawn Are Around 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Did you know there’s a WRONG time of day to mow your lawn?
Mowing at NIGHT isn’t good . . . partly because your neighbors will hate you. But you also shouldn’t do it too early in the morning, or in the middle of the day. Here’s why . . .
If you mow too early, like around 7:00 a.m., the grass might still be wet from dew overnight. And that can clog your mower.
Mowing in the middle of the day isn’t great either, because the heat can be hard on the grass.
And mowing too late isn’t great either, because your lawn needs time to recover before the sun goes down. It’s more prone to fungus and various diseases at night.
So when is the BEST time to mow your grass? According to lawn care experts, the optimal time to mow is between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
Mowing at that point in the day avoids all those problems. Or if you’re not a morning person, late afternoon is fine too, between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

It’s a Dangerous Sport, and One You May Least Suspect
The synchronized swimming competition gets underway this week at the Olympics, and for those who have only a superficial familiarity with the sport, two stories might provide a surprising revelation.
“Synchronized Swimming Has a Concussion Problem,” reads the headline in the New York Times. While a headline from the AP suggests the sport known as “artistic swimming” might well be the toughest one at the Games.
The reason? It requires “the strength and power of weightlifters, the speed and lung capacity of distance swimmers, the flexibility and skill of gymnasts, and the ability to perform in perfect sync with the music and each other,” writes Kristen Gelineau of the AP.
It’s that “in perfect sync” part that causes many of the injuries, given that several athletes are moving in such close proximity to each other.

40% of Us Think We Could Hold Our Own in at Least One Olympic Event
Olympic athletes are some of the most finely tuned athletes in the world. But over a third of people are like, meh . . . I could do that.
40% of us think we could hold our own in at least one event at the Summer or Winter Olympics. And we’re not just talking about air rifle and curling.
A lot of us think we could compete in the more physical events too. Basketball, soccer, and swimming were all popular choices.
Men were a lot more likely to say they could hold their own at the Olympics . . . 60% compared to 22% of women. (Let me know when they add competitive channel-flipping and I’m in.)
The poll also asked people which events should be ADDED to the Summer Olympics.
The top answers were MMA . . . lacrosse . . . bowling . . . cricket . . . and competitive cheerleading. (There’s a chance cheerleading could be added in 2028.)
Also, 44% of people think the Olympics in general are overrated.

1990 Capitol Records released “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks. The first single from his second album, No Fences, the song spent four weeks at #1 on the US country singles charts.
The idea for the song was born when Earl Bud Lee and some songwriting friends gathered for lunch one day at Tavern on the Row, in Nashville eatery. When the check came, Lee realized he had forgotten his money. He was asked how he was going to pay for the meal, and he replied, “Don’t worry. I have friends in low places. I know the cook.”
1993 Alan Jackson was at #1 on the US Country charts with “Chattahoochee”, the third single from his 1992 album A Lot About Livin’ (And a Little ’bout Love). The album is named for a line in the song itself. “Chattahoochee” also received CMA awards for Single of the Year and Song of the Year.
LUKE BRYAN’S ‘MY DIRT ROAD DIARY’ DOCUSERIES IS AVAILABLE TODAY
Luke Bryan’s new docuseries, My Dirt Road Diary, premieres today (Friday, August 6th) exclusively on IMDb TV, Amazon’s premium free streaming service. The five-episode docuseries has been in the works for nine years, according to Luke’s director, Michael Monaco, who has been capturing Luke’s life on video both on and off the road for years.
Luke tells us when Michael first presented him with the idea, he wasn’t too into it. [“Early on when (Michael) Monaco, my director, was running it by me I was kind of like ‘bah-humbug’ about it a little bit, and so as this thing came together I got more and more emotionally invested and now I’m really just invested because I’m excited for the potential to help people heal through tragedy and be inspired through tragedy and the ups and downs of life. So many people deal with that, so I hope that they can watch this and really understand that there is a light on the other side.”]
My Dirt Road Diary touches on the many personal losses Luke has experienced throughout his life, including the deaths of his brother, sister and brother-in-law. It also captures the highlights, like winning Entertainer of the Year multiple times and, of course, playing to thousands of fans at every venue on his annual tours.

Mickey Guyton on the Time She Sang “Natural Woman” at Prince’s House
CMT has a digital series called “Probably Shouldn’t Tell You This”. It’s the perfect title to get famous people to share stuff you actually want to hear . . . instead of promotional nonsense or fluff pieces. The latest one has MICKEY GUYTON talking about the time she and some friends were partying in Hollywood and needed a ride home. One of the friends was dating Prince, so she called him. He showed up in a limo and took them to his mansion.
And it was exactly the kind of place you’d imagine Prince living in. Mickey says, quote, “We get in this purple suede elevator, [which] takes us to this giant ballroom with chandeliers. There’s a rose piano, a microphone set-up, and some drums.
“I first get on the drum set, and I’m trying to play, and he takes the drumsticks away and tells me I have no rhythm, which I don’t.
“Then he gets on the rose piano and I get on the microphone and I was like, ‘Okay, I’m with Prince, and he looks soul, so why NOT sing ‘Natural Woman’?’ We sing ‘Natural Woman’, I am not kidding. [Hard to] believe it actually happened, but it did.”
