On Today’s Show
August 11, 2021 9:35 am➢ A mother in Oklahoma was hosting a birthday party for her six-year-old girl . . . and she was bummed because her plans for a cake fell through. So she came up with a bizarre back-up plan.
She hired “Mrs. Bigfoot” . . . a.k.a. “Cinnamon” . . . who would be in costume, and would surprise the kids by peeking in the windows at the party.
Mrs. Bigfoot showed up, and the kids were immediately horrified, and began screaming, running, and crying. Mrs. Bigfoot went in the house . . . and the kids eventually warmed up to her a little, but the mother says the kids still say they never want to see her again.
Mrs. Bigfoot arrived with balloons, wearing a tutu and a bow in her hair . . . so the mom says she thought it would be “cute and fun.” But the kids “did not have that reaction.”
➢They built it, and now people will come. TOMORROW, the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox will meet at a special temporary field set up amid 159 acres of cornfields near the property used in the 1989 film “Field of Dreams”.
The game was postponed in 2020 debut by the pandemic, and marks the first-ever major league baseball game in Iowa. An 8,000-seat ballpark will host the game, which will feature a corn maze outside the park in the shape the MLB logo. And it will be possible to hit a home run into the cornfield beyond the right field wall…just like in the movie.
➢ If you have a pet you may have noticed it’s been difficult to find their favorite foods in stores. The issue is that many people got pets during the pandemic, and retailers such as Amazon, Target, and PetSmart are desperately trying to keep up with increased demand and strains on the supply chain.
It’s also been affected by higher prices of basic foodstuffs such as corn, soy, and meat, on top of rising transportation and labor costs that are affecting all food supplies—for pets and humans alike. Pet food makers are also facing increased competition for animal- and plant-based oils because more of those are going into renewable fuel supplies.
➢ The iconic animated children’s show “Arthur” will come to an end with its upcoming 25th season, set to debut in 2022. The series holds the record for longest-running children’s animated show on U.S. television, and is the second-longest-running animated show of any kind in America behind only “The Simpsons”. Over the years, many celebrities have made guest appearances on “Arthur”, including Yo-Yo Ma, Art Garfunkel, Matt Damon, Alex Trebek, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and more.

HAVE AN ANCIENT ANDROID PHONE?
Google is completely killing support for very old Androids.
The tech giant recently announced, “As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our users safe,
Google will no longer allow sign-in on Android devices that run Android 2.3.7 or lower starting September 27th, 2021.
If you sign into your device after September 28th, you may get username or password errors when you try to use Google products and services like Gmail, YouTube, and Maps.”
Android 2.3.7 runs on Android Gingerbread, which came out in December 2010.
And if you’re still using an older phone, there is some hope, as devices that can be updated to a newer Android version (3.0+ or higher), will still be compatible with Google. Mashable notes, “Realistically, no one should be using a device this old anyways, for security reasons—bugs and issues pile up over time, as do the chances of having your device infected with malware.”

Twin Is Refusing to Be His Brother’s Best Man . . . Because the Bride Is His Own Ex-Girlfriend
A 21-year-old guy on Reddit needs advice after he refused to be the best man in his identical twin brother’s wedding . . . because the bride is his OWN ex-girlfriend.
It’s not clear where they live, but he dated the girl for two years in high school. And they only broke up when he left for college. But his twin brother didn’t move away.
Once he was gone, the brother started dating the same girl . . . and didn’t tell him about it for six months. He says he was angry, and still is. But he said it was okay as long as the three of them never had to hang out together.
He probably thought they’d break up eventually. But it never happened. And now three years later, they’re getting hitched. He says he thinks their initial agreement should stand, and he shouldn’t have to be in the same room with them . . . even on their wedding day.
But his family is pressuring him to be there and says he should just suck it up.

Are We All Cutting Avocados Wrong?
Here’s another simple thing the Internet claims we’ve been doing wrong our whole lives. How do you cut an AVOCADO? A recent study estimated that avocado-related injuries send 24 people to the emergency room EVERY DAY.
So how do YOU do it? Most of us cut them in half lengthwise. But a bunch of people on Instagram say you should be cutting them the other way . . . around the MIDDLE. So you end up with the top and bottom as two separate pieces. (Here’s a video.)
Here are three reasons why they think it’s better . . .
- It’s slightly easier. You don’t have to cut through the ends of the avocado, including the part where the stem used to be. And you can roll it on a cutting board as you cut.
- Less surface area is exposed to air. So if you only eat half, less of the avocado will turn brown and gross in the fridge.
- You end up with a nice bowl shape. So if you’re eating it with a spoon, it’s a little more comfortable to hold. Not everyone’s convinced it’s better though. Some say it’s not THAT much easier in any way, so why change?
t also might make it harder to cut into slices, but that’s debatable. If you set it down between bites, it could tip over. And it’s also not clear if it makes it any easier get the seed out.

LUKE COMBS ASKED TO #CLEARTHE LIST OF A TEACHER
Luke Combs recently got in on the #ClearTheList trend on social media by purchasing everything that a kindergarten teacher in his home state of North Carolina asked for on her Amazon wishlist for her classroom this year.
On Wednesday (August 8th), Kelly Kirk tweeted Luke writing in part, “I wanted to reach out and see if you wanted to support an Appalachian Alumni with her teacher Amazon wishlist! I teach kindergarten in NC and could use some help with #clearthelist . . .”
Later that same day Luke, who also attended Appalachian State University, responded writing, “Cleared it for ya. Good luck to your students and GO APPS!”
The grateful teacher responded writing, “OH MY GOSH!!!! You have made my year Luke!!! THANK YOU doesn’t seem like enough! Please know that you have made such a difference in my student’s lives!!!”

TRAVIS DENNING READY TO GET HIS ‘BUTT WHOOPED’ ON BROTHERS OSBORNE TOUR
Brothers Osborne kicked off their headlining We’re Not For Everyone Tour July 29th.
Travis Denning and Tenille Townes will serve as alternating opening acts, and as far as Travis is concerned, he hit the jackpot being asked to open this tour.
As a fan of the duo, Travis tells us he plans to be side stage every night: [“I am so excited to see that every night, and I’m also very motivated to try and beat ’em, you know? I mean, I’m fully prepared to get my butt whooped every night from a musical standpoint, but we’re gonna try our best to stand up there amongst them because that’s the thing — they’re so musical and that’s what I love about them. The second I got the call that we were being offered the tour, my head immediately went to guitars. I’m very excited, can’t wait to watch their show. I’m a fan of their music. I love everything they do. It’ll be a great time.”]
Travis just released his new EP, Dirt Road Down, on August 6th.

I think my best album is yet to come, and I think this one is really good. I really believe in all the songs and wrote all the songs. As long as the listener will believe every song when they listen to it, that’s about all I can ask for.”]
